So the janitor called campus security to come check things out (just as he was instructed to do if he saw anything unusual) never mentioning that she was black. Then the unarmed campus security guard told her that the cafeteria was closed. The security officer who was called recognized that she was a student and informed her that the area was reserved. and the dispute pretty much ended there. A cafeteria worker, Jackie Blair, warned Kanoute the area was closed. The janitor (whom the Times left unnamed) had been encouraged to alert campus police if unauthorized personnel were in the area. In the transcript of his call to security, the janitor made no mention of Kanoute’s race. The campus officer arrived unarmed and at one point even apologized for bothering Kanoute.

  • Turns out, as per a recent New York Times article, this girl’s story was complete crap. She was eating in a closed lounge she wasn’t supposed to be in. Because there were kids on campus for the summer program, and everyone on campus had to have an authorized background check, staff were told to call security on any unauthorized people. Smith hired legal counsel after the incident and found that the visually impaired 60 year old janitor who called security on her used zero language that suggested racial intent, and the unarmed security who arrived respectfully cleared everything up. Total nonissue. This brat got an elderly working class man fired for doing his job and has the gall to act like a racial victim. She’s a monster.

It seems that most of these well-publicized hate crimes reported on college campuses have been hoaxes (e.g., Oberlin College, SUNY Albany, a Columbia professor who put a noose on her own office door, etc. etc.). But I don’t think the mainstream media has retracted any of the stories.

I hate how this world has become. Racism should be over but because people like you its not. I am white and I respect others the way I want to be treated. This poor girl was just trying to read. And the others were just trying to swim or sell lemonaid or even mow a lawn. SO DO YOU THINK IT WOULD BE OKAY TO DO ALL THESE THINGS IF THE PEOPLE WERE WHITE??? It shouldn't matter the race. And don't even start with peoples criminal records. Because there are ALOT of criminals that are white aswell. You can't be like this. We need to stop racism before it gets as bad as before. This world is full of bad people, that's why we need to stand up and become the good people of this nation and show equality so other continents can adopt these laws to make people free and equal to do all things.

    • @Folk Aart do you think black people (and other people) commit crimes because they love it and are naturally malignant people? Crimes are committed because people are desperate to put food on the table, not because they like it, but out of desperation. Many (but not all) black people also are forced to live in poverty because of systemic racism like this that goes on to this day. Black schools are FAR less funded than other schools, destroying opportunity and keeping poor people poor. Half of all African-Americans will stay poor their whole lives due to this toxic system. Black people are just like anyone else, the only difference is their skin color, all people are equals and we must treat all people as such! You are calling 1.1 billion people violent losers who commit crimes and are horrible. How could, in any universe, 1/7 of the world just be horrible, violent, people? They're just normal people trying to live their lives, and you are generalizing, lying, and being extremely racist and ignorant. Instead of just generalizing about so many people, why don't you just TALK to them? Make FRIENDS with them maybe? I'm sorry, I must be introducing a revolutionary concept to you. The wedge that's keeping racism alive is you, not black people. YOU are the one who's abusing black people, by bashing them online like a chicken. Do you think enslaving, murdering, raping, terrorizing, and oppressing a people is treating them fine? And then the fact they have a higher crime rate due to poverty from this oppression white people created they commit more crimes, and you have the nerve to say that you are the one that's suffering? Get a life.

If she had talked to her, there wouldve been no misunderstandings. But its not her fault because that was what she was intruscted to do. Secondly, it was the cop who told her some racist called about her, after he asked her for identification and found out she was just a student. You can't blame either side. I just find it weird that the school didnt say straight away that it was a misunderstanding. They simply fired the janitor. Then 2 years later an article comes out that it was all a big misunderstanding? It doesnt make any sense.
