Like how to play football & be good at it.

The Premier League top teams can learn a lot from the attitude these German clubs have for their supporters!
Definitely
Well it's a different setup genius. Their clubs are associations English clubs are just clubs ultras have no say in how clubs are run as most European clubs were part of a bigger centralised structure that included other sports such as volleyball and chess if which you had a member. English clubs were born out of something more organic and stretch back to the mid 1800s. A few people managing a crowd of thousands wouldn't work in England because fans would just do their own thing.
God, I do love Germany and something like this only makes me love it more! I realise that these clubs (especially Dortmund) are now "global brands" to a certain extent, but the way they actively interact with their fans and seem to balance being big businesses whilst rooted in their communities is really impressive. Being able to negotiate ticket prices directly with the club?? That's very cool. The points made in the film about standing sections and being able to drink in the grounds are also important as these elements really do add to the raucous and fun atmosphere at German games. I've been to a good few Bundesliga games over the last 5 years or so and every one of them has been an absolute pleasure to behold. I really hope I can taste the Revierderby one of these days!
Dortmund is one of the most profitable clubs in the world. When i think right top10
The so called 'Revierderby' is by far the greatest derby on this planet. Two legendary clubs head to head TWICE a year! Absolutely epic!!
Brilatus Red Star vs. Partizan Belgrade maybe?

Fun fact: If you ask a Schalke fan who went to the stadium in the 70s or even earlier, you might be surprised to hear who THEY consider their arch enemies: Rot-Weiss Essen.
As a Newcastle United fan under the never ending rule of Mike Ashley, i wish that our fan base could come together and retake our club and fans have their own stakes in the club much in the way these two are set up. British football at the minute is all about the money with owners not giving a fuck about the fans only their profits, fan ownership is a way to retake control and make it about the football again
Wells aid, I feel the same about my club and owner too (I'm a Aston Villa fan)

Well said, but look on the bright side. At least your not a long suffering Blackpool FC supporter with the son of a rapist owning the club and seemingly determined to run it into the ground. Love Blackpool, hate Oyston!
Germany has the best atmosphere at football matches in the world
Come to Spain or Italy
Supported Watford for 30+ years home and away but working in Berlin currently and watching FC Union Berlin few weeks back versus the League leaders was a genuine eye opener. Ticket price, free transport, terracing, atmosphere and people happily drinking or smoking without any hassle - incredible. The Germans have got football right, very envious of them because in England, especially the Premier League, it's soul has been ripped out with hardly a murmur from the people who once made it what it was. Oh, and because of some new friends, Schalke every time out of these two :-)
Union 👏
Wish they would have shown more of the atmosphere during the game. I watched the game and especially payed attention to the crowd, knowing copa 90 would document this derby, and the crowd was buzzing, there was sining non stop and it was outstandingly loud all of the game!
BORUSSIA DORTMUND. BEST FANS EVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL, at least 60% who were Borussia Dortmund 'fans' last season are now Wolfburg 'fans'. Admit it.

No bullshit, Maybe 60% is a little bit high but AT LEAST 10% changed club. At least in your western-neighbour country.

i live in dortmund and it was a harmless derby. you should have been there when dortmund spoiled schalke the trophy in 2007 by winning 2:0. that was atmosphere there...
And now the tables turn, Schalke 4 Dortmund 2
Or the atmospere when Dortmund were leading 4-0 to halftime and Schalke came back 4-4 in the second half ;)

Derby Days are Amazing Vids and they keep getting Better...
Eli in almost every episode....." This is the most intense derby I've ever been to"
Eli has really grown into a great presenter, gives great analysis of the atmosphere. This series and host are a perfect match
14:16 'Thats what a derby is all about' and then the fans were shouting 'son of a b*tch' :D
I hate football and lived in Dortmund and can say derby match days always had a festive, communal vibe as a city!!! The only 2 days a year where even I watched the games!!
Love the derby days!!! Please do more next season Copa 90!!!!
There are teams in the second tier of German league that have more attendance then some teams in Englands premier league . I think that's crazy and shows Germany has some of best fans in football.
Derby Days with Eli mengem are some of the best videos on copa 90!
Definitely my favourite series of videos on KZhead.
Fascinating stuff. Good work, man!
Did y’all actually get a shot of Klopp at 4:14? That’s wild.

Love this series. Copa90 and Eli, keep up the great work! :D
Mad respect for both clubs.
Dear Eli, your portrait of this derby is priceless as much as timeless. Today the first Lüdenscheid vs. Schalke 04 derby is staged before an empty Signal Iduna Park. It really is a big loss. In any event, whenever some of my American friends want to know what German football is all about, I always share your video with them ... Glück auf!
2019 and I still enjoy this video!!!
Best thing on KZhead! Keep it up! Bvb!

I wish we had this kind of football/soccer culture in the US. On top of football/soccer being the best sport in the world so are fans and the community and unity that football/soccer bring is just amazing.

I went to see Dortmund the other week and it was on of the best experiences of my life!
Thank you for these videos, I really appreciate it. I hope to see y'all in Mexico some day.
I respect the way Germans go about their football. Low ticket prices and all that. The reason it doesn't work in England anymore is because of the hooligan outrage in the 60s/70s and 80s. The government worked to make football more commercial, especially in the premier league. But what I can't stand is how most people from other countries only see the premier league clubs- many have lost their atmosphere as they've become commercialized. Most English football clubs have great atmosphere, foreign football fans need to realise that they will find the best atmosphere in lower tier football. Most matches at Millwall the crowd are really hyped and the atmosphere is buzzing and intimidating in some parts
Crystal Palace and Bristol Rovers for example
Sometimes at Stamford Bridge I feel like I'm at a fucking funeral....
Aren't Milwall and Chelsea nazis
@@lukasp5892 you are talking about BvB, right?

You lot should see the Bristol derby. Yes, rovers are in league one and city in the championship but it is always a close game, and the atmosphere is electric. One of the best experiences in football.
Watching these in random order. Eli you just get better after each derby match.
The reason for the rivalry is the same background and history of Schalke und Borussia. Both clubs and people, which live in the relative towns. Both Clubs are very similar and starts as working class Clubs. Today they are the (only) pride of their towns after decline of the industry in the Revier after the 80s. Schalke got more Tradition with the titles in 40s and a succesfull team in the 70s, and Dortmund got more sucess today. A Gelsenkirchener, who lives today in Dortmund
That changed in the 70ths / 80ths many Dortmund Supporters study and Dortmund also gets a right side hooligan scene. At Schalke There are many normal workers in this years and also Immigrants from italy , spain and even some turkish people. Also in this years Schalke have one of the most brutal hooligan group in West germany and There is one of the reasons of this rivlery between Schalke and Dortmund (and a Bad immage of Schalke that exist maybe today a Bit Like Millwall)
the Great 'BVB' legendary club.

These videos are high class!
Been waiting for Fenerbahce vs Galatasaray for a longggg time. Hopefully, if my thoughts are correct it will be the best Derby Days episode yet.
***** Doesn't make you any better calling them bastards.
I sure hate Dortmund with a passion. But god damn, Schalke and Dortmund easily have the best fans of any clubs in the european top tier.
I dunno it's them, Tottenham and Liverpool
joseph errami Shut up
+MazzaFifa HD are you actually trying to say Liverpool and Tottenham have the best fans in Europe? I'll tell you this right now. No. I doubt any English club are in the top 5. Dortmund, Galatasaray, Benfica, Sporting, Celtic, Marseille, Athletico, Anderlecht, Partizan, Red Star, are all better than every English clubs fans when it comes to passion. In fact, by far, the best fans in England aren't even in the prem; they're Leeds God bless 'em, I don't even support them and I fucking hate them but if you're going to tell me that that Tottenham outdo fans like Olympiakos, you're just dense. Leave.
+MazzaFifa HD besiktas or partizan fans vs tottenham LMAO they'd get fucking murdered!
+joseph errami two clubs who think they are big but big clubs don't worry about them
Beautiful. This is what football is all about.
Excellent documentary!!
German fans are passionate and loyal like hell and probably the best in the world along with latin fans. They create an amazing and intense atmosphere. English “fans” - mainly the Premier League fans are turists. No atmosphere from the stands and what’s even worse about english fans..... they only support their club when they’re winning. When trailing, the stands are completely silent or... they leave early. That never happens in The Bundesliga.
Thats really not true England has the highest attended second, third, fourth and fifth divisions in the world

I disagree. Germans sound fine when they speak english. Ive reassured many Germans of this personally. Its only in your head man.
This series is epic!
i love how you guys showed the yellow bin, since it is not related to dortmund, but its the bin where plastic goes in and its yellow black wherever you go
I'm addicted to this series
Same!
Boca vs River Plate is a must for this series
It's truly the #1 derby in the world. Coming from a Dortmund supporter...
I know it’s been 7 years since this comment, they went there in 2018, and that was unbelievable, 2 legs, 4 restarts and the 5th time was played in Spain.

Best EVER Copa90 series by a fucking mile
Samstag isset wieder soweit.
No atmosphere at Emirates 😂😂😂
there is no atmosphere ^^
Plastic stadium .
This is a great vid and I've just subscribed to your channel for the first time. I have been to Germany several times in the past to see St Pauli and one non league side and even there the atmosphere is NOTHING like in England, absolutely incredible. Definitely fan power has a real say in Germany and I would presume to try and buy a ticket would be an impossibility if you are not a season ticket holder.
I think i am in love with dortmund , the ULTRAS and the players chemistry between each other specially in DORTMUND is unbelievable
And now Schalke got relegated so no Revierderby next year. I really hope we will see them again in 2022-2023.
We will see it!
I'm a Sunderland fan and this really reminds me of Sunderland v Newcastle. An area of England that has blighted with the closure of mines and shipping industries. Football is life in the North East. You ask every single person in the North East who they support and 99.9% will say Sunderland or Newcastle, even if they aren't hugely interested.
Shame that doesn’t happen much anymore since Sunderland are currently garbage
Brilliant video!
Great that they put Lars Ricken in the video. (scored in the '96-'97 CL final against Juventus, match ended 3-1.)
Eng,ish football fans could be the most passionate in the World, the problem is we can't show our passion when we're told to sit down and basically shut up throughout the game
you are not told to
***** you are wrong, they are.
who ?
he didn't say he sat down did they. but he's right they're told to sit. they don't want them banned or clubs like celtic fined
i remember secretely watching this show called "laola" as a boy on sunday nights, which would always show many game highlights of the major, but also minor leagues in Europe. The atmosphere in english stadiums stunned me back then, especially the way the camera would always shake after home goals. I miss it badly and always hope the Bundesliga sees it as an example. It seems like they do care about fans after all
EPL is the face of modern football: sterile, boring, plastic and soulless. I just hope arab/russian/etc never ever enters into the Bundesliga. That would kill their amazing football culture.
Like teams or people from those countries?.......getting a racist vibe here.
NegaRen GenX i think he means clubs being bought out by people from those places
TheMongooseIncident yup :)
TheMongooseIncident ohhhhhh ok bananaempijama i would be more cautious of companies taking over a club....like how red bull likes to jizz their name on every team it comes in contact with
***** its true,51% own club members,49% sponsors, its nice solution, they are the only one in europe that have so called "healthy league"
I follow my local club here in England (Watford FC) and been to many PL / Championship games over the years as well as the lower leagues. A few years ago I spent six months working in Berlin and was fortunate enough to go watch both Hertha and Union Berlin. The difference in atmosphere, involvement, cost and overall enjoyment is like chalk and cheese. Wish it were much more like the German model here.
The best part of those derby games are when the fans suddenly start to agree with each other....you have those two groups proclaiming eternal hate for each other and then the Steigerlied plays and suddenly they are singing together. And then the ticker shows that someone scored against the Bayern and they are all cheering together.
i would love to see you guys do the Porto and Benfica rivalry, actually, its more of a classico than a derby, but still, its the best experience i have ever had, being at a porto - benfica game
Concordo

Hey Eli! I'm a big fan of this series and I think it would be really beneficial if you covered, not only the more 'high profile' derbies but also derbies like Nottingham Forest vs Derby or Leicester and Blackpool vs Preston (these are the best I could think of in the same leagues at the moment but next season you could potentially cover derbies like Swindon vs Oxford or Steel City Derby, what I'm suggesting is basically, some lower profile, lower league derbies!
Awesome video.
