Interestingly enough, there's evidence to the contrary - peasants (at the very least, by the late medieval period) STILL wore armour, just not as fancy as your lords and so on. Check out the Battle of Visby, where the defeated defending force against the Danes was buried in a mass grave due to the corpses beginning to rot from the hot weather - the peasants, most of whom were elderly and underage, still wore impressive amounts of armor.
Visby was a wealthy town due to trades and its location. And this is later in the medieval times when standard of living has gone up and cost of iron has gone down. I doubt it was the same case for every other Civilizations. Common soldiers did wear armor but most were gambesons, aketons and older mails and such. In asia, common soldiers would often wear armor made out of layers of lacquered and hardened paper and leather armor. It depends on the timeline and location but most weren't armored as well as these guys in the video. These guys would be considered as fully armored Knights

GrimSoultaker hema is good for techniques and training but just like in a eastern martial art what you learn in the dojo and what actually works in real life are two different things your average battlefields prob looked way more like this

nope, because one could thrust a sword into someone's face, especially the eyes, and sword in the eye really wouldn't be nice, there must be some limits

Yeah, no thrusts, groin strikes, strikes to the back of the knee, or vertical strikes along the spine, all for the health and safety of the fighters

Как же меня раздражают орущие глашатаи, особенно девушка тянущая каждое слово. 8))) Ну прям как в Боксе. Вот некоторые мои мысли после просмотра. 1. Напоминает Бокс или бои без правил только в доспехах и с мечами. Может стоило бы попробовать другой формат. 2. Судье на ринге нужна защита для головы рук и лица. Рано или поздно бойцы зацепят. (как в боксе) 3. При бое в доспехах рыцари использовали остриё что бы найти брешь в доспехах противника т.к. просто долбить его по доспехам было не эффективно и если боец упал то в принципе его добивали т.к. защищаться в этом положении тяжело. Класно видеть что мужики используют доспехи и щиты в атаках и борьба тоже очень зрелещна т.к. любая часть тела становится оружием. Надеюсь что это все будет развиваться и совершенствоваться. Хотелось бы видеть как судьи регистрируют удары. Что учитывается (т.е. чем нанесен удар лезвием, острием, кромкой щита и т.д. куда нанесен, упал - не упал ... т.е. хотелось бы улавливать аспекты техники бойцов а не кто физически выносливей или лучший борец). Всем удачи
Видел в каком-то бою судью в латных рукавицах. Голова открыта была, тем не менее. По поводу регистрации ударов - из рассуждений комментатора услышал, что наиболее "ценные" удары щитом в голову. Остальные удары мечом по телу равнозначны (хотя по торсу тоже, мб, больше ценятся). Короче, по голове дубасить нужно. По поводу третьего пункта согласен, конечно... Но это лучшее, что нам могут дать, при этом сохраняя здоровье парней в относительной целостности. Что мне нравится тут - это агрессивный стиль борьбы. А так-то классическое фехтование куда более завершённо выглядит - в плане подсчёта очков, я имею в виду.

As much as I enjoy this, you can tell these guys aren't fluent with the sword.
This is what fighting was like in a battlefield when using sword and shield If they had less armor and different weapons they would fight more fluent and careful

hema is a martial art, this is a combat sport. That's like saying RPGs are objectively better than Action games.
I've watched quite a few HEMA videos whilst I like what I saw it was boring with how fast the rounds ended. It would be amazing to combine this and HEMA together but do away with how fast the rounds ended and allow ground fights to move on for a bit longer over breaking up ground fights within the first two seconds or so. This sport is only new so it still needs to development and mature. The UFC started in like the 90s but wasn't really popular till 2005 ish.
