Axe fighting at www.warlordcombatacademy.com/ against Brett. I had a great time and he was a strong and fast. I hyper extended my knee a few weeks earlier and tore my ACL. Link to fight: • Brutal knights fightin... I tried my best but took a knee.
Only 1060's kids will remember this. . .
I'm having Hastings flashbacks
Their set of armour is actually came from early 14th century
1060 AD was an age of maille armour. What it shown here is circa 1380-1410, also called the transition period from mostly maille and scattered plates to becoming full suits of pure plate (with maille under the armpit and around the groin)
That set of armor i think came out at 14-15th century
If we're both talking about the man with red padding under his armour, the brig looks to be transitional from Visby, making it a 1361 piece with a 1410 klapvisor bascinet, hourglass gauntlets are pretty common for a large part of the 15th Century (1401-1499 AD) so it's hard to place them exactly, legs have brig cuisses and plate greaves, so it's roughly 1370 AD+, and the arms are full plate so 1400 AD abouts? So he wears a pretty wide range of years for armour, but not something too outlandish in terms of a poor mercenary. The guy with white padding looks like his armour is much closer in years, maybe 1390-1410? I'm not familiar with what region his shoulder plates originate from, and I think that might be a Rus helm he is wearing? His brig is much better shaped which is why I think his is a much newer iteration of brig made within those years.
I love that you never really know what is going on inside the unmarked buildings you drive by.

Simon, you are badass!!!! The axe, hooked for disarming the opponent, the armor, accented by a crimson red, the intimidating stature and swagger of a paladin, you’ve got it all.
Thank you! That swagger is just me playing mind games. Fear and reputation are also weapons. Thanks for coming to my channel!
@@axemaster Also, a quick tangent, both the outfit and that aforementioned swagger remind me of the Sturdymen from Mortal Shell (a fantastic dark fantasy RPG that I very much recommend). They’re humongous soldiers with that same sort of intimidating swagger, but the move they often use to engage combat shows some alarming speed. A nice break from the molasses slow berserker trope.
It just shows how hard it was for full plate armored knights to even hurt each other, let alone kill.
True. Even though our weapons are blunt, armor worked very well against sharp weapons too. People would not have spent so much money and physical sacrifice lugging it around if it did not work VERY well.

Even with the armor that looks brutal. Easily broken fingers or limbs.
Thomas Brown Actually their fingers are the most protected, due to the mitten style gauntlets.
@@wiz1904 Probably, but getting hit in the hands must hurt like a bitch.
I was watching a video from metatron earlier and he was talking about medieval armor. I couldn't understand why the last generation of night's armor had metal on the fingers. I just thought that was such overkill. Then I watched this video of two guys smashing each other's hands with a goddamn axe, and I completely changed my mind.
@@andrewhinsurance Two armoured men fighting will always hack at the opponent's unarmoured parts. If you leave out ANYTHING, this is where you can expect to be targetted. No armour on fingers? Here's my target. And good luck holding your weapon without em.
Yeah it is brutal. I've seen more fighters come out with injured muscles than broken bones, however. I saw one fight were a man had his wrist sliced into because the opponent's axe got passed his gauntlet, cut through his gambeson (thick woolen padding), and sliced clean into his wrist. The absolute unit had it looked at by the medics, and went on to win the fight!

Yeah. To think that your average foot soldier probably didn't have near as much armor. It would be interesting to see how combat actually played out when it was for real but obviously that's something we can only guess at. This is probably closer than most attempts though.
Don't forget the average weapons were usually almost stump and rusty, the armor like here was only for kings guard or knights, they were the only ones with really sharp and shini weapons too and don't forget all the piss and the shit and sweat everyone hat in their pants when two army's where staying for hours infront of each other before fighting to hype themselfes, to slaughter each other
