There is nothing more to it, than 'being a good fighter'. We had numerous expressions but I think my favourite is 'Fighting spirit is the nature of spirit itself'. Dunno if it is actually that simple in practice. I'm more surprised they allowed metal armor here. To my recollection, I'd have to check with my brother in law to verify : samurai didn't wear metal armor, since Japan didn't have all that much metal floating around in the first place

      @edschramm6757@edschramm6757 Жыл бұрын
    • @@edschramm6757 That's not really accurate, inasmuch as samurai existed for a very lengthy historical period and their armor changed and evolved over time. By the Edo period, which is more or less what this movie depicts, samurai began wearing highly-ornate armor modelled on the Heian Period ō-yoroi ("great armor") as a symbol of status, which is what is being worn here. Ō-yoroi has six components, and is constructed of leather and lacquered iron scales connected by silk cord stays with a heavy cuirass and the distinctive crested helmet. The color and style of the cords served to identify the allegiance of the wearer. When not showing off in this suit, they also wore armor designed to be concealed under clothing, such as chain-armor jackets and armor-plated sleeves. The samurai have always worn metal armor, because they could afford it.

      @thefez-cat@thefez-cat Жыл бұрын
    • The lacquer was both highly decorative, but also serves to waterproof the iron scales. The iron portions of the armor covered vital areas, with the rest being leather. This isn't because they didn't have enough metal, but because iron is extremely heavy.

I think he would’ve been praised but disqualified. Idk why they made it seem dishonorable if they were to find out the real samurai was cursed.

You can't look, you line it up with your fingers then you must sheath it in one continuous, forceful movement. The sword can only be stored on a stand one way. Honoring this guy for fighting would be like an American, well a Republican, letting someone wipe thier butt with the American flag.
