  • I think this is the first actual DRIVING review. Kudos

  • I hate that they refer to this as the replacement of the 200 series, when in actual fact its a Prado...which is a completely different vehicle. The replacement to the 200 is the 300, which is sold literally everywhere except 'Murica.

    • Yep its like Toyota marketing is almost ashamed of the Prado. Had they embraced it and stop shying away from saying it's a 250, there wouldn't be any problems. Downsized for the sake of offroading enthusiast? lol you are fucking kidding me.

      @korewest@korewest2 ай бұрын
    • the 200 series was selling a whopping roughly 3,000 units per year at the end, no surprise an outdated vehicle for $100k wasn't moving. I'm glad they decided to simplify a new cruiser offering for the USA, its still priced way too high tho.

    • Well, this car is a replacement of J150, which is still sold rebodied as 4Runner in the US, not of J200. Talking about making Landcruiser smaller is cheaper is nonsense (J250 is bigger and more expensive than J150 which is replaces ). Plus third row cannot be had with a hybrid. • Honestly, most off-roader care less about the stock ground clearance. It all depends on the size of tire you put on for these IFS/rear axle vehicles. Stock ground clearance is what it is if you want to use it out of the box. Serious buyers will modify it immediately anyway.

      @JP4WD1@JP4WD13 ай бұрын
    • @@JP4WD1 To be considered a replacement, it would need to be positioned and priced similar to the product it replaces, which it isn't. And name is meaningless. In Europe, the 90/120/150/250 has always been known just like as LandCruiser without any 'Prado'. Meanwhile 100 was marketed as Landcruiser 100 and 200 as Landcruiser V8. We don't get the 80/100/200/300 series in Europe anymore. You don't get it stateside either. But, now you get a completely different model which you did not have in the US lineup at all, except you had cuz 4Runner is a J150 underneath, only rebodied to look like Tacoma. Nobody knows what will happen to 4Runner after all, but 250/new GX is direct successor to the J150/old GX/4 Runner platform models.

ATRAC is great but there are times you want to use a front locker. The front locker is available in the LC300 GR and the LX600 Off Road (both not available in the US). We get the standard and lux LX600 instead... For year, NA buyers either have to get aftermarket ARB or Harrop (Eaton) front/rear lockers.

  • Saving everyone some time. Not a huge fan of some of the responses, but here they are. 1. Why did you go with the 4 cylinder engine? Compared to the 200 series, it has more torque at 465 ft of torque. And 326 HP. 2. Will the hybrid powertrain be as long lived and maintainable as previous Land Cruiser powertrains? Yes. (Not sure they can really say that without owning the car for a few years). But it is Toyota. 3. Are we getting a three row or does the rear mounted batter pack make that impossible? Not in the US. If the market demands it, could happen. 4. Why the decision to go back to the land cruiser's roots and move away from the full-sized SUV it had grown into? Toyota went back to roots to focus on off-roading capabilities. Smaller but more off-road capable. Pricing estimated, start at mid-50s. Approximately $30k less than outgoing model. 5. How does the stabilizer bar disconnect work and what performance does it add? this is new to this model, offers flex and suspension travel with a push of button. This keeps tires on the ground. 6. Do we really need a multi-terrain monitor? The MT monitor lets you view where you would otherwise need a spotter, with views from the side and in front. It offers a moving gridline to show you steering inputs. 7. From the press release the new Land Cruiser has a "ground clearance of up to 8.7 inches". How in the world can that be considered an off-road vehicle? Gee, the 4Runner has 12" of ground clearance." There are a lot of ways to calculate ground clearance. This model will be just as capable out of the box, as other models it competes with. Toyota engineers know best. (a bit of a copy out answer. Why not just share how Toyota calculates ground clearance and why did the engineers go with this approach?) 8. Will the battery get in the way of off-roading and suspension lifts? no, does not limit the ability from installing lift kits. The battery is located above the frame, keeping it away from trail damage. 9. I'd like to know more about how 4WD operates with the new hybrid engine. When you put it in 4WD what power goes where? There's different types of hybrids. Like the newer Tundra, and the Tacoma, are performance hybrids designed to perform hard. This system integrated an electric motor in between the internal combustion engine and the traditional 8-speed automatic transmission. Both motors distribute power simultaneously into one system. That power is distributing to each wheel as needed. 10. Is crawl control available on it? I understand the Tacoma recently go an updated version of crawl control, is it the same one? Crawl control is standard. (not sure if they actually answered the second question.) 11. What's the best reason to buy one over the competition? 1) It has more torque than some of it's competitors. The hybrid system offer tremendous low-end torque. 2) Can tow 6,000 lbs. 2,500 lbs more than some competitors. 3) Toyota reliability, dependability, quality, and durability. 12. To whoever is going to be in this video, what's your personal favorite thing about the Land Cruiser? The push-button electric-locking rear differential, splits power to rear tires equately when you're in technical off-road terrain. Not seen since 90s models.

  • Bummed to see no struts on the hood. My new 24 4Runner has the lift struts on the hood and is the best built vehicle I’ve purchased. I’m also going to hold my opinion on the LC 250’s ground clearance as looking at specs seems low. I am happy to see the legend return to the US in any form. Now make a shorter wheelbase two door Toyota!

  • WHEN is this going to start hitting showrooms?. Should I spring for a 4Runner or Defender or wait?. I need something in the next 2 to 3 months.

  • Awesome! I'm still really confused. Why would someone buy this over the Lexus GX 550 Overtrail? (base). I get that it will be a little less money, but everything is so close, I'm still wondering why. Adding $1500 in AT or MT tires to the LC 250 will make it even closer in price. *Let's be honest, no one will keep those tires.* Is it because of the name? The hybrid system? If anyone has any insight to share, it will be appreciated.

    • Idk, I’d rather get the Kdss, extra storage, and the 9000lbs of towing capacity of the GX. Land Cruiser needs to step it up, but that’s also what makes it cheap

  • Hybrid works well (we have 2 Lexus RX400h's since new - together over 500k miles) but I sure wish Toyota would gear these truck hybrids toward efficiency rather than more power. My biggest (actually, only) complaint with my Land Cruiser 200 is the mileage and the range. Doesn't look like the new LC will really improve on either of those.

  • I wish there was a gas only version available without the hybrid assist. Call me old fashoned but I don't like the added complicaiton of the hybrid drivetrain. Otherwise this is pretty awesome!

  • Do you think Toyota will eventually offer ATRAC with the new Landcruiser? And why wouldn’t they if they are promoting this as their new off-road flagship?

    @craftsmanbuilders@craftsmanbuilders3 ай бұрын
    • The press release seems to imply that all trim levels will come with Multi-Terrain Select. My speculation is that just like the 200 and 100 series here in the US ATRAC will remain always on in the background as the underlying offroad traction control (wether it’s called that or not). MTS being the refining technology that allows you to dial in the sensitivity and aggressiveness for the terrain you’re in. This will also most likely have the latest generation of MTS which is much more refined and smooth in operation than the previous generation.
