Remember everyone, “cheap” is a subjective concept 😅
$55k(entry) is never subjectively cheap and if you think so, you've lost the plot.
Ummm, No, for a nicer vehicle 55k entry is very cheap. They’re not saying it’s. Cheap car, like a Volkswagen Or Hyundai.
Yeah I was thinking £4500, 1995 cheap😂ATB👍👍👍
@@cameronj9890 $55k(before dealer markups) for a vehicle with cloth seats? no, that's not cheap.
@@Stuart-er8qz sorry man, I have no idea what you meant.
** Pricey vs. Very Pricey
Yes, thanks for fixing that 😊
I would buy land cruiser or 4Runner over a bronco or Wrangler.
I concur Wrangler is horrific on road. Bronco is a squeaky, noisy mess.
Because you hate off roading?
And you must hate V6 engines too, because the new Land Cruiser and 4Runner are only offered in 4 cylinder supercharged options. Hard pass.
They seem like wildly different products for different markets with pretty big differences in capabilities. If this had a removable top with an option for 35s out of the factory, then it might be a better comparison. When I saw the announcement for the 4runner, I figured it was a slam dunk for Toyota people. It's a major update on 15 year old beloved vehicle and they leaned into what their customers want. For Jeep and Bronco people, its just background static while they research their next repair or what 35 inch tire they're going to buy next.
As someone who has owned many of those, I am completely in love with my bronco raptor 🤷🏼♀️
Am I the only one who thinks the base cruiser looks insanely cheap? I still like it but it seems like a 35 thousand dollar suv to me.
Agree; This is indeed a cheaper and less capable vehicle than the real Land Cruiser (LC200/300) offered outside the US.
Yeah 100%. For that much a Kia or Hyundai outdo it.
Yup. I’ve been saying it’s a 30k truck for a while.. people will still buy It though.
@@jojo4rmdabronx I wish they wouldn’t. We consumers control the market value of things but prices won’t go down if people keep overpaying for these things and financing them for 84 months. Lol so stupid.
Land Cruisers have never been and will never be inexpensive. You pay a premium for quality and reliability, not feature content and value for money.
Man, those Toyota engines sound like idling lawnmowers.
Not having a V6 option at least is silly when the GX has a v6.

I think it looks good, but I just can't commit to the 4cyl- turbo- hybrid power. With a V6 and $40-45k, I would be all in. Will that Landcruiser go for 200-250k miles??? The first generation vehicles are still on the road with incredible miles on them. Long-term Durability and Reliability are the most important to me. Time will tell.
Simplicity is biggest part of reliability. There's nothing simple about this vehicle.

@@ant208about 6’3 or 6’4.
Tacoma, 4runner and the land cruiser all share the same power plants pretty much so hopefully there dependable after a few hundred thousand miles or so
6:33 to clarify, the Land Cruiser Prado is now back to North America. The full size Land Cruiser is not sold in North America and is only available in other markets. However, in North America we do get the new full size Land Cruiser in the form of the Lexus LX.
Great video as always I really love this channel. The only thing in this video you never specified, which one you thought was better.❤
Keep it long guys!! Love your videos as always. Lots of info! Greetings from Argentina!!
Fairly certain this is only a 5 seater because of the location of the Hybrid batteries. The Lexus is not Hybrid at launch so has the room for another row without batteries. This is the same in other parts of the world for the Landcruiser(or Prado) as it has a turbo diesel 2.8 and can option 7 seats.
100% hybrid USA. 2.8 DIESEL for rest of world. So extra seats option.
That volume knob looks like and afterthought.
awesome Car As a owner of a LC 80 I love it and maybe I got one. smaller LC is great for overlanding round headlight = 70 series edge headlight = 80 series

4runner is basically the same when bought in limited trim. Its same platform and drivetrain with the turbo 4 hybrid and full time 4wd
Do you know the 2025 4Runner headroom measurement, or any other interior dimensions for that matter? No, you don't. Not released yet.
I’ve driven all through there a number of times, and I loved the whole area.
Not seeing the value proposition of the middle/upper tier LC when you can get a base gx550 that has the twin turbo V6 for about the same price.
i think the pros for the LC are fuel economy (you'll struggle to see 15 MPG in a GX) and the 2400 W onboard power. but yeah the GX550 overtrail is hardly much more.
@@Veyronp87 valid point. I just calculated with local fuel prices driving 10k miles a year through GX550 would cost $550 more per year using the recommended premium gas (17mpg EPA combined) vs the LC using regular gas (23mpg EPA combined). Not very significant cost if you can comfortably afford a vehicle in this price tier. I'm willing to bet the GX550 would run just fine on 87 octane since the same engine in the tundra can run on 87. Pretty sure Lexus says premium to as a marketing gimmick when in real life it probably only decreases power by 2-3% running regular gas.
The Land Cruiser, uses regular gasoline. The GX550 uses premium fuel only. So it costs a lot more to drive the GX550.
@@jimlelan4906 I wouldn't hesitate to put regular in the gx550. It's the same engine as the tundra with a slightly less powerful tune. The tundra only requires 87 octane. You'll probably lose a little horsepower but I doubt it would be too noticeable.

Does anyone know if the back seats can be laid flat? Wanting to know if you are able sleep inside like you can in the 4th and 5th gen 4Runners? Thanks.
Cant wait to see what companies like ARB will do to this. I can already see it. ARB classic bumper, safari snorkel and rack. Steelies with a decent set of tires. 🔥
Great Episode TFL
Did you guys drive this one before or after throttle house jumped it in the dunes?
Wonder which will be best to sleep in the back of...4R, 4R Hybrid, or LC.
May I ask where in San Diego, CA are/ were y'all at the reveal of the 4RUNNER? I live in the area and would like to drive my vehicle around there in the future, if possible
Look at the map on the dash, it may give you the clues......but I bet it is private property. Toyota wouldn't want random public snacthing pics.
@@Dusdaddy I suspect your correct about it being on privet property. That would make it more controllable I think. I would actually be surprised if ANY manufacturer didn't use private property of some kind for events like this. I think I would if I was a big company. If its private property you have more control over almost everything I would think. I would also be surprised if it wasn't classified as a Privet event by invitation only.
Given my budgets I don't usually have the money for the top end :) Last two new cars I bought were mid to low range, so ,my option is cheap or cheap :)
Then get a used one in 5 years and let someone else pay the upfront!
@@jibosnjak9840 there's a positive. Farm spec simplicity is less likely yo fail.
The cheaper one and more reliable would be the 4Runner, same platform better engine.
After owing several 80 100 and 200 series landcruisers I can say I highly prefer the full time 4wd nature of the landcruiser vs part time. I think it's likely a critical decision Toyota made to separate these systems from the 4runner, because the 4runner USED to have a full time 4wd option (multi mode), as well as the prior V8 model. It's just so much more confidence inspiring, even in slippery snow or heavy rain conditions, to mud etc. It feels like a Toyota staple now, as a landcruiser owner. I love the base poverty pack seats - the retro seating material - What's interesting is once these vehicles are 15+years old you'll likely see the base model resale values move beyond the more loaded ones - at least that's what had happened with the 80/100 series models
I’ve been driving a Toyota with fulltime 4WD for the last 20 years. I had a 2003 4Runner for 13 years and now a 2013 200 for the past 7 years. I agree with you completely about fulltime 4WD.
Great video. Still really confused about what to buy when my aging Land Cruiser 200 eventually wears out. May stick with the 200 as long as I can and see how everything shakes out. And yes, I drove my 200 off road (really off road) the day I bought it new, just like I did with my 100 and my 60 series.
Keep your 200, NA V8 is the way to go.
You could pay to redo a lot on that vehicle before you touched the cost of a new one. I would definitely keep it. At least as a second vehicle!
Great video guys. I had a 94 land cruiser and lived it It's too bad Roman isn't mic'd well
I actually think it sounds pretty good! I LOVE the white roof. Once my kids are grown I am buying one of these.
The physical controls/buttons is a huge selling point over the GX.
I made the mistake of buying the Ford Expedition witht he huge touchscreen. Handling AC is so tedious it almost makes me want to sell my car.
Why is the heated steering wheel button on the right side of the button cluster? Seems odd. Maybe just a pre production oversight?
The rock garden looked like the entrance to a construction site. If you’re in Southern California we need to take it to The Valley of the Moon trail. 🎉 let’s see what this can really do.
For the city slickers btw - similar boxy new Santa Fe is $34k vs Land Cruiser $56k.. 22k difference!!
Or could get a grand highlander, true it would cost more, but it won’t break in a month like a Hyundai.
As a Kia owner I have to agree. Don’t touch a Hyundai or Kia. Nightmarish. Only worse are all the German, Italian, and British SUVs. All! That’s the only thing that helps me feel a little better about having a Sorento.
Where are these trails? Is this around Corral Canyon in east county?
Looks better than the 4runner but will not have as much aftermarket support. I think it will sell good like the grand cherokee.
I think you can put a tire size LT275/70 R18 (the same size as J80) without any mods.
I just wish they offered the 1958 in more color options!
I think they all look good. And the somewhat sensible side of me is saying that base model has everything I will probably ever need in a vehicle. Actually if it has whatever auto 4x4 or AWD is being called nowadays it would be better than anything I've ever owned before. But that Blue one with the White roof I think just looks great,a beautiful paint job and body style combo. However I hope Y'All do a long term review on the base model. That might help folks that try to be somewhat sensible. And sometimes being sensible is hard to do. As for that course, I'm not an expert but I don't plan on trying anything like that with my wife's van.
I would go with the 1958 edition
Phev or range extender set up on a refresh in a few years? That would make these more appealing.
Yesterday I saw a dealer advertisement for $85k! That’s horrible levels of greed. Nice video. Love the LC!
Anybody figured out what the hybrid max version is going to run in the Tacomas/4Runners because it’s nice this comes with it as the only option in their base models.
Lightly used TRD off-road Tacoma in long bed and 14 inch screen for me.
Where you have brake controller in Europe are aux switches so you can connect your light bar etc. Electric brake controllers are illegal in EU
I love it. Thank you Roman and Andre you guys are awesome. And yes expensive but whats not? You get a land cruiser for way cheaper then the past
You DO get “a cheaper Land Cruiser” but you are only buying the badge; This is a cheaper and less capable vehicle than the real Land Cruiser (LC200/300) offered outside the US.
@@scandinavia6271 Less capable in what way? The LC200 did not come with a rear locker for example, and lower weight is better than heavier for offroading. The Prado (which the LC250 is) is a Land Cruiser after all.
@@zhamed9587 I don’t recall the exact numbers - but I believe the LC 300 is superior in terms of ground clearance and better angles. Furthermore, towing and payload is better as well on the LC 300 (if I remember correctly 😉)
I like and thought it was a bit funny how Roman said ”rock garden”, because that area wasn’t really challenging to drive through.
Damn that white 1958…. Looks like a UN truck….. soooo coool
UN sucks. UN is gae
Except the UN won't buy a single one of these with a 2.4L turbo unless it's for use in a parade in NYC. They'll buy the 70 series wagon or the Prado with the 2.8L Diesel (that's going to be sold pretty much everywhere else). NA gets the nameplate for suckers version.
Right again, Roman. The 1958 model would be more desirable for real, extended, remote off road use - vulnerabilities notwithstanding. Of course the IFS limits it to nothing better than your average S-10 Blazer. As you said lifting an IFS is unnecessarily complicated and expensive compared to solid axle. Plus no locker up front, largely due to the strength limits of IFS. Yeah the Bronco has one, but yeah people are breaking their front axle components also, so... Far too much tech to be comfortable risking remote adventures once the rig passes 10yrs old. As too with the Bronco and Wrangler. Great review none the less. If I HAD to pick one, it'd def be the 1958.
Toyota is beyond killin it! New: Tundra, Sequoia, Tacoma, LandCruiser, 4runner, Prius, Camry, and Crown Insignia coming! Unbelievable!
I like that all the content creators were doing a video on this truck at the same time Doug DeMuro who usually does it a different day was at that same location I think the same dirt was on the Truck
At 18 hours TFL has 64K views, Doug Demuro at 18 hours has 326K views, what gives ?
Thanks for the video. A quick observation. The Land Cruiser 100 4.7L engine was basically silent. The Land Cruiser 200 5.7L sounded like a typical V8. The Land Cruiser 250 with the 4 cylinder sounds like a small euro diesel. Not a great sound to my ears. I think I’ll keep my 200.
Cheap is a funny word, especially when cheap is over $50k.
Hi guys the classic land cruiser was actually an inline 6 and not a V-8
Does anyone know what off-road area this is in Southern California looks like a great to camp and check out.
Stopped by the dealership today to put my name on the list. I would go for a pricier one, but without extra package - you get much nicer screens, seats, tires, roof rails, steps, offroad modes, cameras. Just adding up the installed options, you already make half the difference in price, not to mention things you cannot have on 1958
And it’ll still suck off road.
@@Jeepingshort for the kind of off-roading I am going to do, it is plenty enough. I manage in a Highlander for the most part, but would rather have some underbody protection and low range/locks

Soooo… 78k for Overtrail GX Lexus or 68k for a clapped out Land Cruiser. That is a tough sell tbh…😅
They gonna sell lots
Toyota, we want 35’s from the factory! Get your sh!t together!
I think the round headlight version looks better, 56k for cloth seats is a big meh for me, they are really leaning into ppl wanting that land cruiser name I guess. The interior on both of these versions seems cheap for what you are paying.
When the front tire was 3 feet off the ground Andre said it has good flex and articulation. Notice how IFS is only a problem on American vehicles.
I would buy the Land Cruiser over a new 4Runner. I've seen the new Tacoma in person and have sat in it. It was way smaller than what I thought it'd be. I like the more upright windshield in the LC, as well as the dash. There just seems to be more space as well. I do like the looks of the 4Runner a little more though, especially the Trailhunter. I hope Toyota develops a Trailhunter or maybe even a TRD Off-Road/Pro Land Cruiser. Please also give the Land Cruiser a panoramic sunroof and front light bar that changes color, as the 4Runner and Tacoma have. I hope you guys can do a long distance road trip in the new Land Cruiser. It seems like a very comfortable drive. Plus great MPG, what was it rated at? 27 highway? That's great for a vehicle like this.
andre, when was the last time trucks were considered inexpensive in north america ?
As for the sway bar disconnect Is it just me or does it seem nearly the same between both models like?? With that being said that would have been the only reason I’d contemplate the more expensive model, out side that I just want the 1958 one
I thought the trailer brake controller was to the left and below the steering column, closer to the door.
That square front end looks goofy af. It doesn’t help that the front clip appears tapered from certain angles.. totally destroys the large block appearance of the 60 series’ square headlight front end
I think front headlights are easy to swap if you want round headlights
Round headlights come on a base model. First edition.
I was thinking suv's should actually be cheaper than a pickup since you can't do much with them any more. Very few have flat load floors and v8 motors to pull anything. I would love the new sequoia if it wasn't hybrid or atleast had a flat load floor. Ford needs to make a new excursion.
Will we get this model in Canada? I like what I see.
Love that blue color with the white roof. My money would go there... (Comment may be updated when real prices are released + dealer markups)
I have that one coming next month!
For anyone like yourselves at 6’2” or more is the front seat more comfortable than the new 2025 4Runner?
any reason why the round headlight version has unpainted body panels under the lights vs the squared lights getting painted panels?
Round version is the cheapest version. Does not even have electric controls for the seat.
What are are those wheels,20's with goofie low profile tires? Ir am I seeing things? Goofie for off road.
So who was last with the blue press LC, you or TH? Cause TH beat that thing up pretty good.
Round headlights! Both look good but I like the retro look better. May be the Jeep in me! 😂
So this is the USDM version of the Prado, right?
Imagine if this had a naturally aspirated inline or V6? A depreciating battery in hybrid system creates obsolescence.
probably not. Priuses go forever and are rebuildable, not glued together. I'm on year 15 in my 2010 prius almost. Still all original battery, no codes. 225k miles.
@@paladain55 Prius is considerably lighter in weight and doesn't see the same type of usage. If battery needs replacement after 7-10 years my guess it's going to be $7-10k repair.
