I really appreciate a straight forward, nuts and bolts review / comparison like this one. No mindless banter, no lame jokes, no pointless drone shots, and best of all, no annoying music.
You funny ha ha 😢
Amen

"It might be time to upgrade," said the 1st Gen, 1st year GX Guy. 2003, 4.7L V8, 256k miles still beautiful and reliable. My 90 year old, Anti Toyota Dad loves it.
This guy is so well spoken, both the content of his thoughts and how he articulates it. I really appreciate how much knowledge he has.
David, this is one of the best comparisons I have seen. I really appreciate your direct style allowing us to make a choice but also offering your opinion from time to time on the items you had experience with. Thanks again.
Thank you for all these items showing differences, but I already have my mind made up😆👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Hi David. Just found your channel and love it! No music, drone shots just straight to the point reviews. I owned a Toyota in "79" great car one of if not the best i've ever had. Thanks, new subscriber here.
Thank you David for this in-depth review. Great analysis and very helpful points of consideration for buyers. Can’t wait for you have all three (GX 460, GX 550, LC) for side by side comparison reviews. 👏 👏 👏
This is the first video in a long time where I finish it from start to finish. And it was a long one. Loved it man. Keep up this great research and detail
The review was straightforward and not comical - thanks for saving me the time of going through the details!
Thanks, David! I'm looking forward to seeing how well the new Land Cruiser holds up. They both look great!👍
Such a comprehensive and well made comparison as always David! Thank you. Much appreciated
I really appreciate your informative videos. Thank you!
Thx David excellent job as always, looking forward to driving both models.
Awesome review. Professional, thorough, enjoyable. Best review I’ve ever seen
Awesome video! Very insightful and well put together. Thanks for sharing all the information regarding these two very exciting machines 😊
Really great review, thanks!
Very helpful! Thank you!
Very well done, David!
Thanks for the comparo. I have been looking for this.
Thank you for the great comparison. Perfect match for what I was looking for
I would be happy with either one. Hope to see and drive both in early 2024.
Very informative, the longest video I've watched on cars on KZhead in so long👍🏻
Amazing explanation. Thanks for sharing this enlightening video!
Great video and awesome comparison information! Thanks!
Hi from Alberta! Always look forward to watching when i get your notifications and especially the way you incorporate other videos into your content eg demonstrating E-KDSS, comparing interior, factory workings etc! I really dislike what they did with the look of the side angle/profile view below the tail lights on the GX. Overall I prefer GX exterior and LC interior but really looking forward to see real world images of each model in every colour before I decide. Basically for me it's about looks, lol.
Great video and very helpful. Thank you!
please keep posting about new and upcoming Lexus SUVs thanks for the great Video.
Great video, thank you!
Thank you for you opinion! I also like new LC probably with a circle headlight. But I adore GX more! BTW what kind of a seat cover do you use? That looks so nice. Can you give more info about them or link where to buy pls?
Good insight, mahalo for the information.
I absolutely appreciate the video. It was to the point and is not confusing. Thanks 🙂
Very helpful analysis! Seems I'd be very happy with either. Would be nice to test drive each of them before buying.
Very thorough comparison thank you 👍
David, great job as always! Do you have a video that speaks to what the 2024 Landcruiser shares with2023 GX460 and what are new features that are different!
I love your reviews, brother!
Absolutely the best video there is for a real enthusiast
Excellent video David! As current owner of 2020 GX, I could not have picked a better car for my needs. I will definitely wait at least the new GX goes at least 2 years production before I make any decision to buy. David, could you share a link of the seat cover you have on your GX 2023, I liked your idea. Thank you
Thank you for deep review. 👍🏼
Incredible comparison! Easy to understand, straight to the point! New subscriber here! Well done 😃
Excellent review Dave……I have the LC300 GR SPORTS and it’s a solid car all round. I drove the LX600 on which it’s based on and still think the LC offers better value for money and is more practical. Hopefully in the nearest future we will be able to compare all variants - LC 300, LX600, LC PRADO and GX550……interesting times ahead. Keep up the good work.
Wonderful review sir !
very thorough comparison, thanks!
As others have said, thanks for such a comprehensive, intelligent and straightforward comparison of these two vehicles. Thoroughly enjoyed watching and learning from your videos.
Glad you enjoyed it!
David, I know that current 4runners made in Japan have VIN #'s that start with "J" here in US. If the new Land cruisers are made in two plants in Japan, will we be able to tell by the VIN # which plant they were built in? thx Jerry
Thanks for the comprehensive review. Very informative in all aspects. I personally would want to go for the bigger engine and the 7-seater option. YMMV.
Excellent synopsis.
Excellent review.....EXCELLENT!
Thank you for the comparison.
In the end, this helped me decide I want a 200 series
This was extremely helpful! Going to the Chicago Auto Show in a couple days and have a much better idea of what I'm interested in because of your comparison. Thank you again!
Hi David, any idea when the Hybrid model for the GX will come out and what the specs may be from a fuel consumption perspective?
Excellent review. Very informative!! Would like to know the “headroom” difference between the two vehicles. Are you aware of any differences?
David, I’ve never seen you before, what a wonderful and thorough review ! Todd
Well done and Thank you !!
Hey Dave who makes that car seat cover for your GX. Love the channel and all the straight forward info you give out
Thanks for the thorough comparison. I did not consider the Lexus until watching your review. (I already have a 2006 Land Cruiser but plan to keep it.)
Very detailed❤
David, first I think you need to adopt me! Just kidding. With the cost of premium fuel and knowing the abilities of both I think the “Landcruiser” will fit the bill. I hope I can order one without having to take whatever comes into the dealership.
Excellent comparison, thank you ! Can’t wait to see the Land Cruiser 1 st Edition
Good introduction thx
What brand are those seat covers you have on your GX?
The best review, period.
Thank you, fantastic video!! We're going with the overland GX.
Where did you get the seat cover for your gx?
David, I would say the Land Cruiser with traditional 2 tone paint holds the most appeal. I would not lose any sleep if mine was made in a Hino plant. After all, Hino made the legendary Toyota T100 pickup truck which was probably the last pickup sent to the USA with the Chicken Tax added to the price. In the case of the T100, the Chicken Tax just made it 'finger lickin' good'. BTW David, you aren't fooling any of us, we all know you will be buying the GX and the Land Cruiser. 😁😉😂🤣
Ha ha, you're probably right in that I will end up with both of them!
@@AutomotivePress 😄
Lexus has the 33" tire option
The 2-tone paintwork on the 1st Edition Land Cruiser is just amazing! That would be my ideal package.
This is the most in-depth analysis of the two vehicles. I have a 2014 gx460 and I am considering the new gx but for the price. I love the Toyota land cruiser but I don't know how reliable the power train will be. Thanks for the presentation.
That was a great 20 point overview Thank you.. 👏👏😁 The Lexus GX Overtrail is the one for me, Hards down.. 👍🙂
Nice video. Thank you
I suspect the Landcruiser doesn’t need various off road packages because it’s a Landcruiser. The name speaks for itself. 😊
🤔
🤔
It actually does. The LC 1958 does not have the sway bar disconnect as far as I remember. So all US LC are not created with equal offroad capabilities.
Thanks David , I pre-ordered GX 550 already
I lean towards the Toyota Land Cruiser. I prefer the 4 cylinder engine. Plus, I like the 1958 classic look. Merci
David - great look at the tow vehicles. However one overlooked item is the decrease in rear space due to raised rear deck for hybrid battery in the LC. You did mention lack of third row seat availability, but I am really curious what the specifications are for interior space LX vs LC and comparison to the 100 series (I don’t need rear seats. One of my 100’s has the second row removed - I need maximum space!). As for MPG - the 27 mpg (I think that spec was pulled) is ‘not realistic’ - am I wrong?
Great review as always! Thanks David. Any insight on the GX550 fuel tank capacity? The range is my only concern
thank you sir, well done
Great video! The GX just looks amazing wow
Excellent overview!
great review---excellent commentator---no BS
Great review sir
After this comparison showing the limitations of the Land Cruiser I’m encouraged to think that the new 4Runner will lean more towards serious off-roading. Much appreciated.
4runner is outdated junk at this point.
You obviously do not know jack shit about cars for typing that.@@rebeccariley2803
@@jakesmith5952guarantee it will have more ground clearance, approach/breakover/departure angles
I’m also looking at the 4 runner because I can get one for 40,000 but really liking the land cruiser body style
Great comparison!
Thank you for your very detailed comparison. It gives me a lot of information to consider before my wife and I make a final decision about which model we will go with when they are available next year. Do you find the GX to be a good daily driver? I won’t be going off-roading with it, just daily commuting to work and road trips during the summer.
Nice review!
The only concern i have is how to prevent the car got stolen for both. Just wondering if igla would work?
damn man excellent video. nice work🙋🏽♂️🙋🏽♂️🙋🏽♂️
Thank you again for a great video. GX it will be !!!
Thanks David. Great review! I’ve always preferred the look of a Land Cruiser over Lexus LX in the past. I agree with every point you mentioned and for the 1st time I’m leaning more towards the Lexus GX Overtrail as well. Something else that I don’t care about the new LC is the step into the cargo area where they are housing the hybrid battery.
I assume the gx doesn’t have a battery taking up space in the rear cargo area/floor. I hate that about the LC
plus batteries let off toxic gases? wtf?
That is very odd that Toyota couldn’t engineer that rear raised cargo to be flush and flat with the floor.
@@yourchava No batteries do not let off toxic gases. Certain batteries can.
I’m waiting to buy until Toyota starts using their solid state batteries. Hopefully the gx hybrid will be the best model to use them.
That stupid battery hump in the trunk.🤦 It's 2024 and yet the designers and engineers at Toyota's R&D department still put the damn spare tire underneath.🙄 Not only the tires get exposed to heat, dirt and grime. It is also difficult to drop and replace them when off-roading. Why can't they do what Jeep did with the new Grand Cherokee 4xe and place the spare inside while the batteries and regen gizmos are retro fitted around it. Also, that cover and bump for the towing hitch looks half baked and rushed.
I love the spartan look of the new LC 1958. I think I will wait for the new 4runner, and then decide which on I trade my current 4 runner for.
looking forward to updates on both the LC and the GX. We're in the 'quiet before the storm' phase now, as none are on the road quite yet. I really prefer the esthetics (and heritage) of the LandCruiser. I would love the LC with a v6, just for the flat load floor, and potential for 3 rows. The main problem with the hybrid right now, is the space the batteries are taking up in the back. I bet they come out with a 3 row LC later, but can't see how with the battery hump. Looking forward to future updates, shouldn't be too much longer.
What’s the cover that you have in the front seats?
From what you said. I take you will be happy ether way just depends on budget and taste. I do I find out more about which factories make what models. That was the most interesting thing I learned.
Thanks for the assist... Awesome points to make a decision... like you i will go with the Lexus OverTrail, 6Cyl, 10 Speed Trans and fit/finish. simply want a solid engine and transmission... keeping both ride and noise levels smooth and quiet.😎
Hello from Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦. No Turbocharged for me, I will choose 2023 Lexus GX 460 with natural aspirated 4.6 L V8 engine, and 2023 Toyota 4 Runner with 4.0 L V6 natural aspirated. Reliability, Reliability, Reliability.
My vote is for the GX550, looks awesome. Great video, thanks!
I appreciate you speaking into the manufacturing plants. Wish there was something out like this for my 2016 Hyundai Tucson. Think that plant was QC'd by checking every 10,000th vehicle...
A real Indepth review... I will definitely be leaning towards the GX even though I prefer the TX 550h+ plug-in 7 seater
What brand of seat covers do you have in your 2023 Lexus shown in this video.
Hi David. Just curious here. Are you making this video for the American market only? I ask because you’re not mentioning the 250 series will also have NA gas engine and Turbo diesel too for non American markets (where it will be called with its full name Land Cruiser Prado) here it will have the 7 seats too in the non hybrid models.
To be clear, the new LC doesn’t offer 3rd row only in the US market due to the placement of the battery pack for the hybrid motor where the 3rd row would be. The rest of the world LC comes with 3rd row where diesel and other engine variants (non-hybrid) are available. I suspect when hybrid is offered on the GX, you’ll lose the 3rd row on Lux and Premium trim. Also, the LC for the US market doesn’t offer panoramic roof (only moonroof) whereas a panoramic is available for the rest of the world (no idea why as I type this). The GX pano roof is cool but doesn’t open.
I am top of the list with my local Toyota dealer, and I am getting a First Edition in the Heritage Blue. I prefer the Toyota over the Lexus because of the hybrid system (I heard that the GX will get terrible mileage), the retro look and color, and I do not need a third row. I have had a Lexus LX in the past and it was wonderful, but you feel a little ridiculous off-roading in my opinion. My wife has a new Sienna hybrid and we absolutely love that car! (Never thought I would love a minivan.) I just thought I would offer an alternate opinion. The GX should be fantastic but I choose the First Edition.
I appreciate your nuts and bolts review. It was very thorough personally, I think they’re both great I’m gonna go with the GC 550 over trail plus because it’s more luxurious. I also have an engineering background if you have a choice between going with a 20 turbo V6 or a TwinTurbo before hybrid go with the TwinTurbo V6 you’re gonna get 349 hp and it’s the same engine that’s in the Toyota tundra and in the Lexus LX 600 The fact that the Lexus is the only one with the TwinTurbo V6, which mimics the VA makes me go with the Lexus GX 550. You might get slightly better gas with the hybrid Land-cruiser. I don’t want a turbo 4. We haven’t driven it but i prefer the twin turbo v6 Dara GX 550. Also has a 10 speed. Where is the land cruiser has a speedy won’t feel it every day but you’ll feel it when you’re shifting anyone and dry faster on the highway. Keep in mind that the GX5:50 years is premium gas and you can use regular gas with the land cruiser
