The time has come for Mat to get his hands on the all-new Toyota Land Cruiser!
He’ll be testing out this all-new 4x4 both on & off-road to see if it has what it takes to compete with class leaders like the Suzuki Jimny & Mercedes G-Class! So let’s take a closer look…
Starting with the design, the Land Cruiser looks seriously rugged on the outside. It rolls up with a boxy-style design, coupled with a huge rear bumper and massive windows along the side and back to help let loads of light in. As you’d expect with a proper 4x4 it also comes with roof bars as well as running boards along the side, while up from the grille design harks back to the classic Land Cruiser design. It looks great!
Step inside and there’ll be no mistaking that you’re in a Land Cruiser. The dash design mirrors the chunky looks of the exterior, and there’s even padding on the centre console so you don’t damage your knees when off-roading! There’s a fair bit of scratchy plastics throughout the place, but that can be forgiven because there are SO many physical buttons! Almost everything is controlled with a button rather than through the infotainment screen - just like the old days! The infotainment system itself is ok, and there are also digital dials for the driver, too.
There’s only one engine available for the Land Cruiser - it’s a 2.8-litre 4-cylinder turbo diesel that can produce 204hp and 500Nm of torque. This power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
We don’t know the price of the Land Cruiser yet, but we expect it to cost in the region of £55,000 - £60,000. So is it worth it? Stick with Mat and see for yourself!

Unfortunately they will still sell millions of them based on the old cars reputation.

  • A few things. “Cheap”’plastic is for men with boots lad. Toyota designed this car for people like Safari rangers the forestry commission and border patrol in mind. Number two The reason that Toyota insists on manually unlocking petrol is the security. This car is sold in markets where fuel theft is a much more common issue and having an electronically controlled mechanism is easier to fail than a mechanical system for the fuel filler cap. Countries where this is an issue include South Africa Thailand and Pakistan Lastly the reason that have such milf heated seats on all there cars is due to long term reliability. Hotter heating filliments burn out quicker. Toyota use thicker more basic heating filliments (same for the window) to try and guarantee long-term reliability and functionality over performance and short term excellence

Never touch the dif locks or 4L. Drove through that snow like I was on a dry road, even on steep hills. Feature wise this new one doesnt have anything mine doesnt have. The camera system is the same. When you drop to 10kph or less the 360o camera comes on. In off road mode the terrain camera comes on, except mine actually shows all the underneath as well as the front . In 10 years time when I might want to renew my cruiser, this new model is what I would go for as long as they keep the diesel engine and all the physical switches, etc and as long as they do not make it all electric.

In 13y of owning Toyotas, I have never taken one for service except for oil and filter change...Toyotas are a statement of reliability without blink blink or BS...thank you Toyota for making your customers happy...

  • For Australia and big travelling, buy it but get the GXL Prado ( this 250 Series being the Land Cruiser - Prado. The big brother 300 series being the real Land Cruiser) for the 150 litre fuel tanks. The VX and Kakadu only have one tank. And yes, the non-push fuel cap makes complete sense in Outback Oz and Africa because of thieves.

I believe it was called the Amazon over there in the UK). I just drove it from my home in Malibu to my other house in North Carolina on the East Coast with zero issues. Having solid axles front and rear makes it positively unflinching off-road.
