Jimny... Aaaja aja.... 😂😁😝👏👏👍
The jimny seems like a no nonsense, no showoff car. It will take you anywhere, will last you forever, and is much more practical for your family.
Broo it's the stupidest looking and old tech car with stupid pricing like no one's gonna pay 14 lakhs for that , it's a bit too much with very less security , if it would have been at a price point around 8 lakhs then it would have made it into a phenomenon but at this pricing it's shit
Agreed. Only problem I think is it will take one out of the world too in case of a crash
@@futureminds9742 @ArpanMukhopadhyay93 if you are worried about an accident, you should probably take a bus or a train to be safer. You know the kicker, even when they meet with an accident still there's no guarantee for your life....lol
@@futureminds9742 we all know that a true 4x4 is expensive and cannot be offered below 12 lakh rs. Looks are subjective so won't comment on that. Yes the transmission is a generation old but the tech is proven and one can find 100s of reviews of this goat on the internet. Finally, the practicality is better than that in the thar. Until the thar 5 door arrives, the jimny is the only 4*4 option for families.
Those slim wagonr like doors in jimny is not safe
Jimny is doing all that thar did but with highway tyres, really really impressive. Big slap to those who compare it with espresso, Gypsy can finally pass it's throne to jimny
Anyone that takes an Spresso over this for offroad is tempting fate and is taking being a cheapskate to new ridiculous heights. The Spresso can deal with a bad pothole, not climb up a mountain.

This comparison is awesome. Jimny seems to be a tough competition. It looks so cool. Its tiny yet provides good space.
It looks like a toy
It is actually very spacious inside in person...
I have both Thar Automatic 4×4 Diesel & Jimny automatic 4x4 Alpha,...... my verdict is jimny is practical and can be had if you have to keep single vehicle..... but Thar must be the second vehicle in your house.... if Jimny may had priced 2 Lakh cheaper, it would have had created miracles in term of sales..... whereas Thar is very punching and peppier but a bit stiff in ride.... on the other hand Jimny is a bit slow but very comfortable, and best in city traffic..... my suggestion to mahindra is to fit the 4×2 Thar Diesel engine (1.5 litre, 4 cylinder engine) in Bolero Neo (TUV 300) and make 4×4 Automatic Bolero Neo, which will give big fight to Jimny and even Thar.....
Jimny can't do offroad without revving up

All-terrain tires vs. Tarmac tires - Choosing the right tires can make a huge difference! All-terrain for off-road adventures, while tarmac tires excel on smooth roads!
Great review, Nikhil, as always. A couple of quick points: steering knuckle design on solid axles vis-a-vis independent front suspension results in larger turning radius for Jimny. Thar's plastic roof is a no no in my book and Thar's portly weight and dimensions clearly are a handicap on the ruff stuff. I wish Jimny came with a six speed torque converter though. For people living in the hills Jimny is a better bet and for the folks in the plains Thar is the way to go. Overall Jimny seems to be a better engineered product.
The professional and proficient nature of Autocar reviews is what makes them one of the best.
Sure. 'Professionally' comparing a 3 door with a 5 door car.
@@AbhishekKumar-vx9ub if buyers are cross-shopping between a similar 3 door product and a 5 door product......Media houses are obliged to compared them.
Really recommending the original 3 door Jimny to be launched in India. Real compact, rugged, cute and durable vehicle which ahould be introduced in India atleast in limited numbers for every year in a limited quantity of 5000 units in both ZETA & ALPHA in both manual and automatic. If we see everything only based on practicality and for families there will not be real good vehicles in India. There should be option for the people in India for the 3 door Jimny. Recommending all auto journalists and people of India to request to Maruthi Suzuki to launch 3 door Jimny in India.
So true. They are anyway making it here. Make it limited edition or something, give diff lockers and may be a centre diff. Perfect toy for people who enjoy off road.
The three door Jimny is pointless in the face of the 5 door when the 5 door is better in all ways. The only downside with the 3 door is that the backseats of the 5 door dont have that rough back plastic coating to make it easier to slide in loads and put in things that could easily scratch the fabric.
@@mindfreeze0838There is no use in arguing with people of ur kind of mindset where the huge number of Indian population see everything based only on value and cost and practicality. Thats why the enthusiasts in India are not able to enjoy the good things which are available all over the world in more than 190 countries as 3 door Jimny. Where the 5 door was developed for Indian families in mind who think they only need to be considered. As I said before this should be launched in limited numbers in India. Nobody is forcing you to take 3 door Jimny. There are some consumers who like the original correctly propotioned internationally available one, not the stretched 5 door one.
@@tijokurian3820 if I were to look at the motoring media landscape and make an assessment on the mindset of the average Indian consumer I would believe they are rabid petrol heads that want even 7 seat MPV's to have a 0-100kph time of less than 5 seconds so your argument cuts both ways. Internationally one of the main complaints about the Jimny was its lack of practicality in the boot. It should also be noted that no one seems to know yet if markets that offer the 3 door will discontinue it for the 5 door, however I dont think its feasible as those markets have customers cutting their orders for the 3 door in favour of the 5 door. Look both cars drive roughly the same and the market is not there worldwide for the 3 door. If you really, really want the 3 door youll have to get it on your own.
@@mindfreeze0838 Enlighten me to come to real world that only the engineers in India had the brains to make other people think about practicality and make the majority of the people think and change their decision all over the world that the real deal is a 5 door Jimny. The designers and engineers from 1970 until 2018 didnt have the capability and foresight to think about India but for all the other countries they had no qualms.
Very good observation 👍 The one who doesn't have a good road presence surprisingly won the race! 😆😆
For those who wanna see what truly jimny is capable of watch foreign videos with offroad tyres, then you'll don't even compare it with thar 😂
My perception of the Jimny has changed significantly with this video. Good job, Nikhil! I've realized that the Jimny is a hugely capable SUV and shouldn't be underestimated for it diminutive size. I'll pick it any day over the Thar. I just wish the Jimny had an engine with nearly Thar levels of performance, in which case it would just fly with its light weight. Now I'd just like to see a comparison with the Gurkha :) :)
Turbo Kits are available for that
It will literally start flying because it's light weight tin ka daba 😂😂 no global ncap rating probably 0star 😂
Naturally, the powerful engine paired with the light body would make jimny an absolute beast for off-roading. Thar is great and has the "road presence" most people want but in a straight up off road battle, I think Jimny takes the cake.
No the light weight tin box will brake into pieces with thars engine 😂 it's just a cheap tin box with big shokers 😂 it won't score 1 star in global ncap no safety what so even the platics in the vehicle will break and fall of in few off road runs and the vehicle shock absorbers will cost a fortune to repair and I promise they will need a ton of repair 😂
Jimny anyday. Looks cooler too especially when modded🔥🤗

Suzuki should have launched jimny in the three door version. The extended wheel base reduces it's off-road ability
Why? Theres no market for 3 Door vehicles in India on top of that with such Kei car like dimensions and the first Offroad ladder on frame product from Suzuki after decades of selling efficient hatchbacks? Too risky
@@amogus9440 We just say there is no market for 3 door cars. But people prefer them as a secondary car like a daily commuter in cities... That's how the Thar 3 door version still rules the market. Maybe you're right about Suzuki's safe game play to launch it in 5 doors. But if they had launched both 5 and 3 door versions, jimny would have been a deal breaker...
but the 5 door wheelbase makes it more practical
Not even 1% ppl do off roading
@@chintureddy9254 yes. That could be true. But this body on frame chassis SUVs are targeted more on that 1% crowd who live in hilly areas or bad road regions, others would prefer monocoque SUVs. 5 door jimny is still not practical for those 1% crowd. I still remember people, who live in hilly regions, modify their bolero truck for better commuting in their day to day life.

Really? 🤦 The offroad knowledge is dismal.
If maruti had offered the Short wheel base original, I would have been first in line. As it is, I'm continuing to enjoy my 2018 Gypsy.
With the 5 door thar scheduled for next year, lets see what chnges does Mahindra does to make it competitive to jimny, cause it needs it else Jimny is clear in comfort and features. Engine aside i feel Jimny has it all. Although the looks of thar are too good to resist.
Thar looks huge ! However, despite its ‘hugeness’, no luggage space and a hassle to access the rear seat. Jimny, while diminutive, it has fairly good boot space and moderately usable back seats.
All i can learn from this is a very good English instead of core offroad capabilities. Gokd job AutoCar as always - your English classes are good
Nice and detailed comparison. Thar petrol spec is similar to my Skoda Yeti 1.8TSI (I am in the UAE) with it's engine , 6 speed transmission and manual shift. I imagine the same nimble driving with Thar. At a traffic light I reach the next one ahead of most other cars😊. How do these two compare with Yeti?

This is why I love the Jimny. It's very capable even without any mods. I have a 2015 3 door Jimny and have driven most of the big 4x4 tracks in Australia. Simpson Desert, Cape York, Canning Route etc. I left it completely stock running the cheapest highway terrains I could find. Never had a puncture or struggled offroad.
Fantastic review bro and one request .. can you get one done with a jeep automatic 4*4 in comparison ... though the cost would not justify...
The Jimny is a very accomplished and a proper VFM product. Those with more moolah can go for a Thar. It's absolutely amazing to see how different the Jimny is from the original Gypsy. The Jimny may not be very large but it sure is very agile.
If you see the evolution of the Jimny from an international perspective, then you can see how it slowly developed into how it looks right now. India only got one generation of it, so it feels weird.

Maruti tried to make an all rounder while Thar targeted a very specific audiance and I think there maruti miscalculated. As you say in the end, Jimny will do well as the sole car of your household. But is there anyone who buys these kind of cars if they already dont own any car?
Really comprehensive review!! I've always been a fan of the Jimny over the Thar, the Jimny feels like a more practical and complete package for an off-roader and can be driven as a daily driver too. The design of the Thar does not appeal to me as much and I'm happy to see a rival from suzuki that feels just right for both off-road and on-road driving. 👌

What about the faulty buttons for the AC blower,,which ever button u press air leaks through the vent on the dash and foggs the glass!!! Even present on brand new thars being delivered 😮😮
All in all, I feel the Jimny is priced a bit too high for what it offers. Both performed exceptionally well off-road, and I didn’t see the Jimny showing any clear advantage over the Thar. However, most people won’t be taking these off-road as much as one might think, and their use might be limited to that of a rugged lifestyle SUV feel that many want to experience while living in the urban jungle, and that’s where the Thar clearly WINS, with its large size, imposing stance and a commanding seating position, which are the aspects most would care about. Even the reasonably priced 4X2 Thar provides all these things, and so for me… THAR IS THE WINNER HERE.
Not too high, manual variants are cheap compared to automatic. People are losing their mind when they are seeing top model automatics or automatic variants in general. Also you're not gonna do much with a 4x2 when the roads are slushy or muddy.
So you want a car that looks tough but isnt? Look at something else, this will only give a short term thrill and before long when the hype generated dies down youre back again looking for that next new car status high.
I agree the Jimny is a bit overpriced. However you clearly forgot to mention many points- 1. You are incorrect about the stance one. People (who are buying their vehicles for a purpose and not showoff) are searching for vehicles which are light and small but yet have good amount of usable space.. The Thar is wider than an Endeavor and is bigger than Jimny in every dimension hence making it much heavier which i s a disadvantage in Offloading. And yet its second row is unusable, it doesn't have a boot space too. 2. Thar RWD? Why not buy a Compact SUV like Nexon instead or Bolero Neo? An offroad vehicle built on a rugged ladder on frame chassis with its own demerits compared to the Urban Compact SUVs interms of space, practicality, ride quality, handling etc, all sacrificed for Offroad and yet doesn't get the main offloading feature, 4x4. It's literally an embarrassing show off varient.

Power to weight ratio is same for cars (0.087 PS / KG )
Also jimny with lower ground clearance and articulation, can bottom out more than that, But for my use case, jimny makes more sense as I don't do hardcore off roading, I can be sure that jimny won't get stuck and can be used on a day to day basis, So it makes much more sense to spend 2 lakh less and buy jimny.
