I drove a Jimny with £40,000 worth of mods!
Thanks to Twisted for lending us their Jimny: / twisted_automotive
Meet the wildest Suzuki Jimny in the world!
The team at Twisted Automotive have gone to town on this little Suzuki Jimny, and Mat’s about to see if he should add the same modifications to his own Jimny!
To start off, let’s take a peek under the bonnet. This Jimny retains the same 1.5-litre petrol engine, but it’s had a turbocharger added to it. As a result, the power increase has been boosted from 101hp to 165hp! The torque has also increased, raising from 130Nm to around 200Nm.
There have also been a number of chassis upgrades added, including some Bilstein dampers and an anti-roll bar at the rear. The car has also been lifted by 2-inches, along with having some chunky all-terrain tyres added.
When it comes to the design, there are a few minor changes, including the adding of decals and the bumper being painted to match the body colour. Either way, it’s still unmistakably a Jimny!
But once you step inside, there are a number of properly notable upgrades! For starters, there’s loads of leather added across the seats and along the dash, which is in a really smart black & brown two-tone effect. There’s been Alcantara added to the roof as well, to give it that true mini G63 feeling!
However, there are a couple of issues. For one, this is built on the van version, so there are no rear seats! And because of this, an after market infotainment system has had to be added, and it doesn’t come with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto!
So what do you think, is this Jimny worth the £60,000 price tag?! Or does the standard Jimny still reign supreme? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

Love Jimnys' me mate
For £60k, regular Jimny.
@@carwow not in silver tho Mat !!!
Spending 60K on a Jimny is insane 😅
If it's any consolation, Americans are spending about that much on a certain trim of Toyota Corolla. Mainly because dealer markups.
Insanely cheap, a Jimny deserves at least £1 million spent on it. It's a good dog.
Yeah certain "trim"
😂
Yep wild
For £40k I would have expected a 2JZ and a full suspension setup 😂
This is nothing but a cash grab.
This seems ideal for people like Matt who already own a Jimny and are of means. For them, the vehicle meets their needs, but they have very quickly reached its limits in comfort and on-road capabilities. If they still want to hold on to it after all that, doing some combination of the mods is a worthwhile investment. I certainly wouldn't go as far as this mod, but an upgraded modern head unit and more power out the engine would certainly be enough for me.
@@ettchathis should’ve been more road focused but that can easily be fixed with lowered suspension and better tires for the road and of course the interior needs to be restitched to a higher standard. It should be more of an SVR style mod.
$15k is the interior alone.
I thought the same thing, all that money and just 60 more HP, if those were the old days this thing would've a 2.0 turbo diesel inside at least
Getting the turbo fitted to have the 165HP, not changing the suspension (so you retain the onroad comfort level of your car) and upgrading the interior with two-tone leather, Alcantara headliner & additional sound insulation seems like the way to go.
Well the Jimny 165bhp alone cant even match against Renault Alpine A110 1600S.
This is exactly what I commented as well
it isnt supposed to though@@purwantiallan5089
@@purwantiallan5089And? How is that relevant at all? Are you seriously comparing an offroad suv to a small sports car? I see you in every carwow video and your comments are always so weird.
Ask him how many times he have done TT in 3 years !!!
You should compare both Jimny's during an offroad test! Should be epic! And put the twisted version against the G-wagon.
Add also 2002 Ford Focus RS WRC to compare against both Jimnys.
Yes
They probably lend owners car..its limited on what you can do
Either way, it's still a Jimny.
I would have the turbo kit n the suspension kit. Forget the interior upgrade n full off road tyres n save a bundle
That is exactly what I would do 👍🏼
Not only does it have more power the car also looks great. There's something about the Jimny that I always look for when I see one on the street. The only thing missing from the car in the video is the aggressive green paintwork that many Jimnys have. Great video!
The Twisted Jimny handled better than Regular Jimny although still handled like a muscle car.
I seriously adore this car so much, not only it's really good on off-roading but it's kinda really respectable and decent in terms of its own value of money, and yes, I'm talking about the original Jimny but spending alot of cash on this little Turbo Jimny is insane considering its cash, I'm glad in some Asia countries alot of people are enjoying it, I definitely would love to see an off-road video or a drag race video of this little thing.
You should have compared them off road?!
Compared this Twisted Jimny with Ford Focus RS WRC.
Value for money, they are not. They're selling for 30k second hand. I can get nearly new hyundai i30n for less than that.
Yeah no value for money is terrible for jimnys
I'd love to do this but keep the outside completely standard looking, so cool
165hp on a jimny is pretty decent👌🏾
Yeah but... 60k!?
@@Calum_Smith An extra 60hp for 60k 😅
60% more power and 1 second improvement in 0-60 tells me that 165hp is something imaginary rather than reality
@@ceconk123nooo 😮 it wasn't 1s it was about 4s... 1s was the difference between 2wd and 4wd.. 👍
@@Calum_Smithyep. The Twisted Jimny has 250bhp but $150.000 price tag.😅
U got to do an offroad challenge with this
Yours looks much better (inside and out) Mat but the turbo and suspension mods would make a huge difference.
Real leather is always better I reckon. Maybe they offer black leather if you don't like the brown.
I'd go for the engine upgrades, springs dampers and rollbars but I'd have two sets of wheels. One for onroad for daily use and one for offroad when I occasionally have to do some work
Your stock Jimny looks good and from what you say drives very well already. No need for the suspension changes or those off road tires that would affect yours as daily driver unless you plan on venturing off of pavement as part of your plans for your car. So the only mod I would say right now is the turbo to give you some more ooomph! Maybe a larger one with more boost capability!
Suzuki should just put the 1.4 booster jet engine in the car as standard and then it would meet emission regulations as well, win win!
My Jimmy’s amazing and it’s not my first. So far, on two of them, I’ve spent a total of £9000 purchasing them. They’re both the previous version. So, that leaves £110,000 to modify them at these prices…. There’s a wonderful aftermarket for modding and improving the older Jimny. I’m going to stick with mine. As I don’t have all the extra dosh, I’ll just have to put up with having the best (and the cheapest) 4x4 on the market as it is 😅
what about niva.. 🤔😉 I thought that was/is the cheapest... 🤣😁
i would love to see an off-road test between the 2. Im pretty sure the twisted would win but would love to see how close it actually is (maybe you should get some allterain tires for your jimney to make it fair)
Add also 2002 Ford Focus RS to matchup against this Jimny.
@@purwantiallan5089how can a focus RS compete in a off-road test with these cars? It's more a sports car/rally car not a off roader like these
I saw one of these in their Salcombe Showroom in Devon and I must say it was pretty cool along side their boats and Defenders! 🔥
petition to make mat tune his jimny
Could it possibly be Super-Charged? With all the other upgrades.
Man, u should definitely install the turbokit but tune it to 150hp and do not change the suspension. It would be the best Jimny ever.
The Jimny 165bhp still outclassed by Mini Rover 1275S MKI. LOL.😅
MAN U
For you, probably worth getting the turbo and the suspension upgrades.
I don't have a Jimny but the original just looks like it has so much more character, and I think it will hold that for far longer than the one with upgrades
For an offroader, adding an anti roll bar is a downgrade not an upgrade 😅
Yeah but its great for those of us who just want it for road use😆😆😆
that be why jimny didnt provide one and the idiot twisted thought lets add one and i bet that upgrade they be charging £5k just for that to be installed 🤣
Mat is a legend with out him there is no carwow 1:53 1:54
what's there @1:54.. 🤔 why the timestamp? 😮
LOL TRUE.😅
I’ve recently bought my self a 2023 Model Jimny top of the range and quite confidently say it’s probably my favourite car. - cheap on fuel - do all the labour myself - 1.5 so zero to no maintenance and very prone and extremely low chance of anything breaking. - quirky look with a nice modern touch - Big aftermarket scene - weight makes up for power - monster off-roader The list goes on but really it’s a car that needs to be driven to be really appreciated. ( Side note ) I also own a 700whp death machine rotary and really prefer my jimny over it.
Matt, I think you should jazz up your interior and improve the sound insulation and improve the engine performance. Don't worry about the rest. Oh, and the painted grill definitely changes how it looks too
YES. Lil jimmy is a rocket. Its not about the size of the rocket its about the something.......something
need a race of this against a standard civic 10th gen
The vanity plate on these cars 😂, and nice Toyota grill on your Jimny Mat!
All the performance upgrades and don’t worry about the interior stuff that’s what I do
you can get a used g63 for less than 60 grand , i'm not a fan of the price of this jimny.
161 HP isn't bad for a jimny
What about a 2.5L in-line-4 for an engine option, that would be great
The fact that this wasn't an off-road battle is criminal
Give it to electric classic cars and make it electric 🧐⚡️🔋
Just imagine it 🤯
I have a Jimny as well. I spent more on some aesthetics and a bit of functionality and overall it feels like a more complete vehicle for my needs. Although in the future I do want to have it turbocharged for a bit of fun. But for now I'm enjoying how slow it is hahah
I’ve bought tickets for this car on BOTB, wish me luck, honestly ever since I saw this it’s become my dream car😂.
you should get the turbo and the suspension because it would get undrivable at speedways, the mud terrains over the normal for road gives you the compromise offroad
I think like you said if you have the money and it doesn't spend more time in the mud than on the road, I would have all the mods done cause I do love the Jimny there such cool little jeeps, have to say that twisted version is epic 👌👍
You seem to enjoy the up grades go for it . Happy Trails
This needs an offroad challenge ASAP
holly cow, that's a serious of bit of kit on the wind screen......
Yes Matt do it. Sounds like you have a better standard jimny so should turn out even better👍👍
Agree.
Hell yes! Do the upgrades!
I am considering getting a Jimny and would love to get the suspension and turbo upgrade, that is probably as far as I would go, maybe some standard alloy wheels. If I had to choose it would be the suspension upgrade that would be my priority
Mat, get the turbo in yours at least, the improve in acceleration is pretty good for that small All terrain, and just add some stiffer anti roll bars, I think that should be worth it 😅
In my opinion you could upgrade it, but with a volumetric compressor, to be efficient and ready immediately, even off-road :)
Jimny is like old beetle! You love it or hate it. I ❤it. I had 88 Samurai long body.
In Japan, the Standard Jimny is available in two trims: ¥2142,000 and ¥2267,000. (£11,858.11 , £12,545.58)
Love the video. I drove my Jimny 3600km on a road trip around South Africa and ended my trip at the Jimny festival in clarens. Loved driving my overloaded with roof rack, box and extra fuel on the roof. It reduceed the fuel combustion. I would like to know what the twisted average fuel consumption is.
Damn straight you should! Go go go!
You could definitely tune that turbo mod so it is more helpful off road, which it probably already is seeing the torque. If it was any more powerful then itd be more like what you mentioned - just explosive power useless outside of maybe dirt track racing or something lol. But lower power overall but more torque than standard makes sense. The suspension setup and tires/track width could be setup more ideally for off road (or on-road i suppose too.) Wider fenders, tires, for all four or just rear etc. I assume the dampers have more off road settings too. And Im curious how the costs break down - seems quite high for turbos tunes and suspension, but that interior could be wildly expensive lol
the fulcrum suspensions lift kit adds off road capability and on orad comfort, leaps and bounds over the standard set up.
Great review again Matt 10/10
The bird at 9.50 nearly got took out by the windscreen 😂😂
I would be very tempted to do the engine upgrades.
Whats the long turm wear and tear on the engine by adding that turbo, this is a question that I would be asking myself. I got a jimny and SZ5 and only mod ive done is bigger tyres to give me more grip in the off roading.
Go for it Matt!
Stock, in the flesh, these looks surprisingly good! Love the suzuki brand. Check out what they are releasing in 2024, as per the Tokyo show. Loving the little scooters. Its a shame they dropped the 1L turbo mild hybrid, its an incredible engine and so fun.
THOSE POWER UPGRADES ARE INSANE!!!!!!! 75k USD! BRAND NEW ZL1!
Thanks for not screaming into the mic Matt
Ive had my JB74 for a few years now, i basically ticked every option box at ARB 😅 suspension, front and rear lockers, bars, tyres and winch plus others. Its gotten me everywhere i wanted and always exceeded my expectations. Its also now a lot slower ttan the stock jimny because of extra weight, aerodynamic drag and likely lost a couple of HP because of the snorkel 😂 Ive always wanted a bit more HP, not a lot more but particularly more low end torque. When off roading the kack of any usable low end torque really majes it tricky, especially in a manual. I am considering a turbo kit as it will help a lot with power but im mainly interested if it will help with bottom end torque at all. Ideally i would love a roots style supercharger, positive displacement, as it will provide forced induction at any rev, but i yet to see anyone doing that yet.
Both of them I love ❤ when you will come to Japan??? We are waiting for you !
You are totally hilarious bro…😆 I’m an old school petrol head… Just imagine You never at work… You love it 👌🏾
Add the suspension parts, add the performance filter yourself plus an exhaust. Bring it for a re-map. Get it re=trimmed yourself. You would get 70-80% of the Twisted car for, maybe, 20% of the money
Finally a jimny update 👍
Go for it!
You're having a laugh, it's a Jimny.😂
40k for 64bhp? Someones laughing all the way to the bank 😂😂
60k?! That is ridiculous. What could have possibly cost that much?!
20k for base car, 10k for turbo kit......erm, lots on leather trimming work?
Hey Mat the infotainment system on your Jimny was the last gen version. We've got a better one in the 5-door version sold in India
Just want to say that I've noticed those very nice number plates on both cars
Great video Mat!😸
i primarily got a jimny for some offroading fun. biggest upgrade thats worth is getting a proper suspension setup. the eibach coils with bilstein shocks is just not that good on paper. i got profender shocks with KING coils 2.5 inch lift kit and the ride quality improved significally
You've got the money Matt, get it!
Under 9sec is quite fast, nice upgrade
Why fog lights are turning off momentarily during the road test ? I saw this happening a couple of times…
How does the stock one get away with not having swaybars?
Finally! You promised modding your jimny but it never happened. I’ll take this review
For off road you can have disconectable swaybar links. Best of both worlds
I think I'll keep my Jimny because I actually go offroad 😂 I've already got the Muddies, may do an Ironman lift eventually and probably a suoerchwrger when become reasonably priced.
my stock 2019 Jimny has 96385 km in the odometer and I will not vote for that kinda upgrade. all km driven by me. I love it!
Oh, Matt... just have one of each!
That turbo sounds awesome! 60k on a jimmy that’s not the top speck though. Thank you for your honest review though Matt. I think I will have to nip into the show room and see it.
What about the 5 door Jimny? It may not be available in the UK. Upgrading the 5dr with a turbo, some leather (not on the dash though) & suspension lift would be great.
Twisted saw you coming and laughed hysterically all the way to the bank. Mod your own for a fraction of the Twisted price you mugs!
Do they leave £25k in cash under the front seat as part of the conversion?
Take it offroad Mat don't leave us hanging
Get it done lol. It's awesome!
Ιf only the engine mods included a decent supercharger instead of a turbo,(so no turbo lag) I would say it is so worth it
Whoever trimmed that car was completely pissed.
Definitely get a huge turbo and a nice sounding exhaust..
Has anyone seen something flying towards the jimny at 9:51 😂😂
Mat has such a soft spot for the Suzuki Jimny. For fun's sake!!!
You should review the 5 door version and compare it with 3 door
Good looking jeep thats all feels like it build more for the road thats all
I'll never forgive you Matt for making me love this car so much, 🙈🙈
Mat is that MY70 JMY your actual number plate for that car? if so its quite a good one
