Test drove one a few weeks ago. It's incredibly solid feeling...like carved from ignot. Which is surprising for a body-on-frame truck from a new company. All the switches feel like a million bucks and there are great details everythwere. The speed warning is almost a deal breaker but you can set a shortcut and rear seat space isn't huge but more than that the footwell entry is very tight in back. The steering is a bit unusual but didn't seem like the end of the world. I have to say...came away impressed.

I think it's an excellent commentary on the current state of the car market when James said "Are there modes like sport mode? Put me in that." We're so accustomed to vehicles inappropriately having that stuff that he assumed it did.
People have complained about not having adaptive cruise control and any number of foo foo things that I would rather not have in a 4x4 and can break down and be difficult and expensive to fix down the road. Form follow function.
I saw one of these the other day in our little Oregon town, totally drooled over it for 5 minutes. They’re super cool, suuuuuper utilitarian interior which I like
Wow, just saw one of these at a Costco in San Jose, CA. It is not often I see something in a parking lot and have no idea what I am looking at. Thrilled it isn't electric as I had assumed.
What is funny is there is an EV version called the Fusilier which looks little a little brother G Wagon. Side by side this is much more imposing... even before a 40mm lift and 35" tires.
I think there is a certain reason why many say it feels a bit like a G-wagon: The guys who did the devellopment of the car was Magna in Graz. That's where the G is develloped and made. They even went up the same testtrack on the Schöckl with the Grenadier. (that's a nautral track on a local small mountain, a G Wagon needs to withstand 2000km on without hickup during testing. And when you see how and where they go on that track it is quite surprising that there aren't parts hanging off after they are done with the G-wagon testdriving.) And if the Billionaire didn't tell them how the experience should feel like to drive, then i would say they went for what they know best... I am from the are and have seen the odd Grenadier while they were still prototypes. And i was quite surprised when one of them went up a twisty mountain road in front of me with what i would consider seriour speed for such a vehicle. As for thomas's question about G wagons in offroad videos: in europe you will find many g-wagon offroading videos, but usually the g-wagons used in the videos are 20-30 years old. They still then aren't cheap, but more affordable for offroaders and still many people tend to go for military surplus ones and they at least a few years back were available at around 16k€. (that's what a safe to drive on the road mil surplus one 30 or 40 years old would goes for, now you can add a bit to that thanks to inflation.)
Yeah but it will end up like G class, will be used by CEO, only fans girls and rappers fir it's looks but vast majority will never even touch grass. It's just way too expensive to be realistically used as serious off-roader especially in Europe where you can buy cheap mode Suzuki that will do much more then Granadier or G class.
@@wykydytron That's only for new vehicles. You have plenty of old G's used for offroad. Because that's when they become somewhat affordable. And even a new Jimny can't beat a first gen G-wagon offroad. Because the Jimny never had front and rear lockers. Where the Suzukis advantage lies is that you can have one to the price of an old G but have a warranty. (Then again, you will brake more things as it isn't as heavily built as a G.)

Hate to make comparisons, but these guys have the OG Top Gear energy, but in a new package - it's fresh, yet familiar and they obviously love cars.
Honestly a great looking truck. Nothing wrong with a nostalgic homage to the Defender. Teething problems aside, this is a great first generation product. I’ll be curious to see how the facelifted version improves upon it.
The lane and speed warnings need to reset to default (on) as required by EU law, so it isn't a bug or bad design. They could propably customize the firmware for North America, but then they would have to make custom firmwares for all regions which would complicate production. It's a true world car and you get the same thing whether you buy it in Europe, America or Japan.
Big fan of this silhouette - I'll occasionally see one on my morning commute & it's been one of my favorite spots. In person looks great, though at first I thought it was a vintage land rover resto.

Well, that was a very good review. You guys nailed (okay..mostly Thomas) on what this vehicle is really all about. I have been following the development of this vehicle since the very beginning, now that I own one (Trialmaster) it’s everything that expected to be.
In Spring, TX I couldn’t tell you the last time I saw a G-Wagon that wasn’t being driven by a woman on her way to shop or pick up kids. They’ve proven to be extremely capable in parking lots. Not having the M-B badge, or not being a jacked up pickup truck or jeep with attached but never used rescue gear and dashboard toys, this doesn’t stand a chance at appealing to concrete captives. Yay!!!

I live near a dealer that sells these (and plenty of rich people to buy them), and I've started to see grenadiers at least once a day. Very cool to see them in person, such a different vehicle.
I remember reading about this years ago. Considering this was steamrolled by one person and made by partners I am actually kind of shocked the price is that low, and it doesn't look really amateurish. If you would have said 150 000 eur I would have not been surprised at all. I work in the chemical industry sourcing and deal with Ineos... I wonder if you will see these in their plants.
Jim Ratcliffe is a very serious guy who is worth around £30bn, essentially from nothing. He's completed a 7 day ultra-marathon across the Sahara desert aged 60. Everything he does is with a purpose and without the ego of at least some of the world's billionaires...

i really like this vehicle. THIS to me is a $71,000 car i see so many trucks and SUVs that are around this price range that i would NEVER EVER pay this amount of money for, despite all of the luxuries and all that, thats not important to me. Utility, performance, materials quality, ergonomics, practicality, thats what I value and this car has it.

In the UK we have had these for a year or so now, not better then a defender off-road and significantly worse on road, people are getting out of them quickly.

I was looking into getting a grenadier. The thing i was missimg from the review was the focus on the quality of the components they used. From the engine to the diffs and shocks. Everything just extremely well built.

A big help , would be built-in 4 corner air actuated lifts . Whenever there's damage or if it gets stuck and you need to place something firm under a wheel, built-in air lifts would most certainly come in handy out in the middle of nowhere.

Love your videos. And this one made me want to own a truck/SUV for the first time in my life. I've only owned small cars and now own one with the B58 and ZF 8-speed combo, so maybe that helped. And I do fish a lot and do some light upland game hunting. But still this Grenadier is way more overbuilt/rugged than I'd ever need...... It does look really cool and the overhead switch panel is awesome. Keep up the good work. By the way Thomas, would you someday do a video of your watch collection (dive watch nerd here) ?

I shouldn't have to dig through 3 different menus for my fucking headlights (looking at you BMW ) or dig through 4 menus to turn off traction control or accidentally press my steering wheel button cos it's haptic and my hand grazed it slightly (VW you bitch). It's why I shy away from buying most cars made after 2020. There's only a select few I would consider

I backed out of my reservation and bought a HE Land Cruiser instead. I decided if I buy a solid front axle I’d buy a 392, way easier to mod and not feel bad beating it in the woods. The Grenadier is absolutely gorgeous but getting it on 37s or 40s might be a really tough putt.
You can put 35 for 500 dollars. But try getting 37 or even 35 in third world countries. Since this is a global vehicle and not a US vehicle, I can accept you can't get 37 on without some work.

In todays crazy market, this thing realistically looks like it is worth closer to $120,000 considering you can't even buy a new Escalade for under $100,000. I gotta say even though $70,000 is a lot, it is a bargain for something this cool and unique.

They look really good in person. As someone who can't stand the look of a G wagon but do like the look of an old defender this is a really cool vehicle. Hopefully they work out the bugs and it becomes popular because I definitely think it has a place in the market.
I would definitely take this over a new Defender. I say this as someone who is not in the market for anything resembling either.

I love this car. This and the new Land cruiser(and the Lexus one) are really cool looking. I love the interior panels.
The design language of this is the most stunning thing I have seen in a while. It's so futuristic but a specific type of futuristic that I really like. Like a more industrial type of futuristic. The dashboard looks like out of an airplane.

Not having ANYTHING except warnings on the gauge cluster is brilliant. You're off road. You don't care about anything except what's in front of you, and whether your car is okay.

The lcosest to where i live is 15 minutes away, but that doesn't mean everybody has one right around the corner. They have contracts with different dealers and service places, you probably need to look at their homepage to find out.

There's a BMW dealership near me that sells Ineos and I was genuinely confused as to why Ineos was here. But seeing the Grenadiers when people take them on a test drive gives me the same excitement as a seeing an old Defender.
