Will This Corvette RUN AND DRIVE 750 Miles? Forgotten For 20 Years!

This Anniversary Edition 1978 Corvette was abandoned for what I'm told is around 20 years. It looks like someone once did a full build on it which appears to be around the last 90s. I'm going to try get this running and back on the road and attempt to drive 750 miles home.

Haven't seen any of the TV eps since no way to or about to trying to schedule work tasks around seeing a TV show. • Derek, C3 headlight door mechanisms are designed to go over center and lock in the upright position even without the vacuum motor working. You can push them up all the way from underneath the front until the linkage locks over center of the pivot. If the mechanism doesn't lock in the upright position, you can make a simple mechanical adjustment on the linkage to get it to lock and stay in the upright position. They were designed this way on purpose in case the vacuum motor failed and you had to manually push up the headlight doors from underneath by hand.

    • @@ViceGripGarage Derek, If the headlight motors fought you when the engine was running and the headlight switch was on, then you have a bad headlight switch. The easy fix for this is to disconnect the small vacuum line running from the headlight switch to the headlight motor vacuum valve in the front of the car in front of the radiator. When you disconnect the hose, the headlights should pop up with the engine running if the headlight motors work. If they don't, you will be able to push them up from below.

They're plentiful at the junkyard, usually less than a grand brake to brake, and pretty close to indestructible in a car. They also help put a little weight in the back end, being about twice the weight of the factory rear.

  • Derek I think if the frame is solid and not too rusty, it is a good candidate for saving. There is almost nothing that you can't get as far as parts for Vettes. Most every part that car would need is available after market.

  • Derek, I’ve lived in Ghana, West Africa for the last 15 years working with widows and orphans. No TV or much of anything for entertainment except a few car channels on KZhead. Watching you troubleshoot and repair the cars on your channel and your positive can-do attitude is very entertaining and informative. Often here in Ghana bubblegum and wire is how we make do until we find the parts so your channel has helped me one, to keep things running and two, keep my sanity through laughing my way through your episodes. Thanks.

Just a tune up & fluids change plus 2 quarts oil burned on I 80. A lifetime of wrenching still leaves me way short of Your impressive problem solving skills. Sometimes make up for this by great luck, like finding this one owner Vette with 88 K miles in original owner’s garage. Sold it in CA for ridiculous $. I believe we do share a real love for these old machines. That’s probably the source of the good luck sometimes added to our wrenching skills. I patiently waited for a second hand 1275gt engineto come up and sent it up to Mini Land I think, it was in Yorkshire . They bored it out to 1380cc . I sprayed it myself as I worked in a garage, the same red with a white roof, white mirrors and the same pinstripe. The engine went back in with twin 40 Webber's, rc40 exhaust and cooper s discs under 10 inch minilites. It was a flying machine ....around a hundred bhp... Went to all the mini shows with it. Thank you this brought back so many memories of my youth ❤️
