I bought this truck sight-unseen as a part of a package deal. It's time to see if it'll run and drive back home! Will it Start?

Derek, the shop teacher everyone wishes they had in back in high school.
Appreciate that
That's the truth right there!
I would've had a different career entirely!
That’s a class would’ve payed attention to
You said my brother 😢
"Its got more hose than a L.A night club" Almost choked from laughing so hard. Cant beat Dereks humor 😂😂
Had the exact same experience 😂😂😂
That was a good one, and never heard him say it before
Yes sir had me spitting out my coffee this morning.
My new fav anecdote from Derek.
Same!! Lmao😅
Caught one of my students watching this video during class today when he should have been working. Honestly, I couldn't be mad even though I had to make him shut it off. At least the student has good tastes in videos!!
Personally I'd return it to a regular truck and strip all that extra stuff off. Repair the rust and get her looking good, maybe even a new paint job. Follow that with new engine seals and a standard rebuild. With that it would be even more dependable and fun. Great episode, thanks for sharing :)
Agreed. Could also mount those tool boxes on a flatbed if you have one laying around out there.
Definitely the hardest working man on KZhead
Thanks for watching
The BEST in my opinion ✌️👍👍👍👍
It's so cool to see a good man get the notoriety he deserves. The other day I saw a Cold Snacks decal on a truck. I gave the guy a thumbs up, went home & tried to order one for my lawn care trailer... They are Sold Out! Keep up the great work & awesome family entertainment!
@@ViceGripGarage women just need to take clothes off and get millions of views, while a hard working man needs to invest time, money, skills to get sincere likes and affirmations of working part of society. KEEP THE GOOD WORK !!!!!
gotta be lol
“More hose than a L.A night club”. Had me rolling.
Came straight to the comments looking for this exact one 😂
😂so did I!
☠️☠️☠️
Me too! Kinda spicy for this channel! Hahahaha
Me too! 😂😂
I would go through it and refresh the engine , restore the seat , cleanup the interior and kinda put it back like it was. I think the service truck configuration could be super handy when you go out to bring back an abandoned vehicle, what with the compressor and all the tool storage! I like the truck, it’s pretty straight and didn’t even fuss with you about the rad leaks all that way home! If I lived nearby I would help you with it!
Thats what Im thinking too.. keep on that configuration and bring it back to life! Right on!
Not really use full to have a Compressor these days , or just to fill up tires. We got electric powertools to work with . All right is there so , better make it useable 🤷♂️👍
Here in England 🏴 we’re just seeing The first series of Roadworthy Rescues and wanted to say how much I enjoy it …. Nice to see you’ve kept the humour the same as vice grip … 😎🤙
Where can we watch that Steve?
What a surprise! I wasn't expecting a "will it run episode" tonight! The two Dereks was the best! We've all been there arguing with ourselves!
Right👍🏽
Agreed, that was hilarious.😂
Yeah, us two really enjoyed that there part.
That was hysterical
HERE WE GOOOOOOO!!!! 2 vids in a week, 3 if you add VGL!!!🤘Thanks for everything you and your family do for us fans Derek!
Hustlin!
@@ViceGripGarage ABSUTIVELY!!!
Thats not a mountain goat Derek...its a Kodiak!!!
This is awesome getting two in a week is just what I needed. Thank you for the time and effort you put into this channel I have enough on my plate with a full time job and the kiddo and never have time to wrench on my old rig. You keep the fire going to get it running again instead of collecting the scrap money on it
@@ViceGripGarage A good mix of videos! If they were all one thing people would get bored, keep on keeping on... I hope someday the 1956 Buick comes off the rack for a show even if it is a short show. I love that car and that is how I found your channel! Thank you!!!
Derek, my thoughts on what to do with this truck would be make a project out of it. Pull the engine and tranny, do a quick refresh of the engine with new rings, bearings, and rework the valves, seals and gaskets. Then replace the clutch, make needed brake repairs. For the body, clean up the rust, and preserve the rest of the surface, maybe even apply a VGG wrap. Obviously you would redo the interior. Then use the truck around your home, for running to town for parts and supply's. You could even use it for resurrection's, (take your tools and parts with you) if you had a helper ride along with you to drive it back. Maybe you could even have a selection process and pick a fan to ride along and help and drive. A lot of possibility's.
The decision probably got made months ago, but I'm thinking you've brought home enough GM products with good-enough 350s to just swap one out for this engine, then you have one to get rebuilt nicely and drop into whatever car or truck could use it. I don't know enough about your business to know whether there's room in your service fleet for this one, but if so just throw some VGG branding on the doors and throw on some wiper blades? Maybe even a seat? Or a temp gauge that's not broken off, naah! Thanks for the excellent channel!
must have dozens of vehicles for running to town.
I absolutely love these rescue videos 👏👏🐐
My son and I have been watching your videos for awhile now. He’s 4. Recently him and I have started using the “hut tssss” action noise for everyday use. And yesterday he was trying to do something and I heard him say “wellll help me understand…” I was overwhelmed with pride! Lol Keep up the absolutely great content Derek!🇺🇸👌🏻
My little boy is turning 2 this year, but everytime were in the living the room ill most likely have one of his videos on. Gotta start em young😂
My daughter is about to turn two… every time she walks into a dark room ‘can’t see nothing’
My sons are now 28 and 25… Enjoy every minute of them being little, my friend!! It doesn’t last long!

I honestly have watched every one of your videos and I enjoyed them all! All who are new to the channel should go all the way back and watch them all! Pure gold!
Thank you!
i love looking through old trucks and seeing what treasures await
it's been awhile since I saw you on youtube. what a blessing you are.
"Its got more hose than an LA Nightclub" Don't ever change Derek, this is why we all love you, your off the cuff one liners are so great.
I cracked up when he tossed the brake fluid in the cab and immediately said, “That’s lost.” 😂
“hotter than Shania Twain in the 90s.” 😂
My favorite is when he said "I need a Tonya Harding." Still not sure entirely what that means lol
@@AnthonyM-wishes-he-was-cool lol it's a hammer 😂
@ryanmartinage that's kind of what I figured 🤣
Bring it back to life as a service truck. I love it
Thanks Derek and crew!
I agree. Either that or park it, but take the plate for something else. Then try to talk Bradley into rebuilding the engine! hehehe...school project!
don’t let our guy fool us. his best gal is with him all the time & all the way…I remember when he quit his full time job to do VGG. she’s never outside of shouting distance & that’s pretty amazing. they’ve come a long way & deserve all the accolades they’ll receive.
That's a nice looking square bud !!! Rip the service stuff off, do a cheap re ring rebuild, and give her a good old paint job with some new kickers and rim's. She'd be a great going to town truck.
Definitely restore the service equipment. That's what makes it special!
I think it would make a great truck for picking up new vehicles. You can put parts in the back and have everything you need. I also love that you take the back roads. When I retired from the Military, I don't get in a hurry anymore and get off the freeway and see some of this country that I protected for 20 years. You had an awesome drive. Thanks for the look see Derek.
Thank you for your service mister johnson.
Thank you for your service, We need more men like you. Maybe sooner than I'd like to think
Thank you for your service
Thank you for your service sir
I didn't do 20, but I understand the feeling!! Once I got out of the Navy, I was no longer in a hurry.
Just wanted to say love the show. Me and the wife were in Croatia on vacation in a resort watching you fix on things! Keep it going man!
"A bike trail with a cliff on each side" lol classic. Love this guys humor.
I dont care if you ever do another revival video. Everything you put out I love. So please don't feel pressured to keep up. You already develop wholesome content for the masses. ❤
Your squarebody content is always my favorite. Long live the squarebodies!
Rip it strip it off bring it back to stock. Keep doing what you’re doing. Great attitude I get your humor thanks for the laughs and mechanical tips ‼️
Derek my buddy, oil fillin with no funnel. Pull yer dipstick put the tip into the oil inlet and touch the rim of yer oil bottle to the stick. Voilas the oil will flow down it into the engine. Instead of smokeshow coatin the block and manifoldes
Classic VGG! Good humor and revival fun! He's back!
He was never gone!!
He never left. Lol
@@WoobieLT I know that! You don't understand my comment! What I mean is he has gave us the classic VGG tonight! In other words how it all started!
Looks like a perfect revival truck for you. It's a 3/4 ton so perfect for pulling a trailer & towing things back home. You also can get lots of content with fixing the rust, rebuilding the 350, painting the truck & its service bed as well as the air tank, even fixing all the floor jacks & let Jessica & the boys pick out the paint & interior colors for it.
Agreed with everything you said; a perfect revival rig!
Maybe even have some hand painting done on the doors. Time for a Remington Revival.
I agree with all you said, but that air tank doesn't do anything for me. Maybe one down in the bed would be better. But it would make a good revival truck. I'm sure that Jessica could come up with a great looking interior.
Realistically it will just sit in his field :(
Derek this is a keeper the body is not in bad shape! And the most important thing is that 350 CI fired up and got you home!
Love the way you teach and show everything you do.
We had a lot of these 3/4 ton work trucks. They were all 350’s with 3 speed auto. With 411 gears and one 16 gallon fuel tank, the range was about 80 miles and that’s how far our plant was from the nearest large town. No aircon, no radio, great in the summer in the south. We had 2 colors of interiors, either tan or blue. The local upholstery shop kept two spare seats in stock, a tan and a blue. We generally wore them out about once a year. Looks like he drove that seat about 30 years.
A guy doesn't know the fine details of his Chevrolets, but if I am not mistaken, wouldn't there be a good chance that's a 4-bolt main block being in an HD truck?
@@nicothebassdude Probably so. Never had engine trouble with any of them.
This would be a great going to town rig while also maintaining its functionality as a service rig. Would love to see it restored as it was meant to be. Love all you do! Thanks
Love all your videos, particularly the revival trips. It would be cool to see more "continuation of projects" videos though. Regardless of what you do can we see more of this and other vehicles you've worked on post getting to the barn?
Making good progress, thanks for the update again! Always look forward to your next videos.
The video editing/production on your vids just gets better and better. As good as any major production company.
Appreciate that
Love the revivals man! Thanks for the great content!
Thanks for watching
@@ViceGripGarage I vote that you go ahead and keep the ole girl a service truck. And Remington is a fine name!
@Vice Grip Garage 😊❤❤😊❤.. update... i guess this was my three year old daughter that typed this out. Well derek i guess we got oulselves a vice grip girl. Perfect.
These are the best episodes VGG produces. Much more of these and I'll sub again.
Always happy to get an alert for a revive and drive from Derek! Cheers from Alberta man!
First one with a working radio, you could feel his excitement through the screen! 🙂 The work you and your family do to keep this channel on a high educational, amusing and moral level is important and so much appreciated!! Greetings from Belgium. Take care always!
sure guy, you got it. Derek and family set a standard for our culture. cannot be more important than that.
I really love these videos but what really makes my day is when Deric shows the back roads through the country. I was raised on a 130 acre farm in southern IL and I miss the old days, now I’m stuck in the city just trying to find that country road that will take me home again.😊
I’m a Brit and I just love these trips showing me your beautiful country and the back roads , I just love it.
It’s still in your heart my friend. That’s where all the roads still lead!🥹
Just take a ride and get lost on a Sunday afternoon. Good for us!
I can’t believe how well that thing runs and I love your relaxed attitude to everything Derek! It sounds beautiful too 🥰 how many miles do you think it’s actually done?
Man, once again, love the video. As for the rig, she seems like a good, solid place to start. I’d love to see this truck fully restored with or without all the service goodies, or maybe even throw in a big engine and freshen up the interior and make a real classy muscle truck. Either way, I definitely want to see more of it. Ole girl deserves it she wanted to live, she fired right up. She’s had a hard life, time for her to enjoy her retirement.
Miss these Videos Derek! I know you have lots going on but this is why I started watching you- find these old vehicles and get them running and driving them home ❤
This one didn't even fight him that much and it was still very cool. Love revivals, prob cuz it's what we all dream of when we see these old cars sitting on the back roads.
Me too!
I'm no mechanic, but love watching these relics come back to life. The other stuff Derek gets up to is okay, but these revivals are his bread and butter and what drew me to his channel.
@@davros1283 where can we watch the revivals at…..
Don't know how I manage to sit through and watch these videos you make. Wait, I know , because I enjoy them! Thank you and never give up, there's always one more drive left in them.
Good ta see ya back to doing what ya do best! I enjoy watching these what's up vids 👍
Found your channel recently Sir and it is fantastic! I really appreciate your subtle humor you find in wrenching on cars which can be a very frustrating task. I wish for you and family continued success.
Definitely keep the service truck theme. Refresh the Motor, throw your flare on the truck and use it at your local events. Even pull a single vehicle to a local event and have tools there. Welder on board and everything. I’d like to see what you’re version of an every day service truck would be.
Stuck in emergency room getting testing done really glad to see a video posted to help the time go by
I had an 81 model. Straight 6 with a 3 on the tree. Wish i still had it. Great trucks.
Keep it as a service truck or put on board air on ramp truck, love the channel, and you saving old steel. Keep doing what you do sir, I watch all the episodes over and over and learn something new each time. Love how your boys are getting older doing what you do to continue your legacy. Very cool. I also love the progression of pole barn too.
Love to see her brought back to life as a revamped service truck with an engine/interior refresh. Then go drive to a worksite nearby, find the guy with the shittiest looking rig and toss em the keys. There's always that one guy whos driving a cavalier firing on 3 cylinders with a semi-flat doughnut.
Derek is keeping the square body population up more than anyone else it seems. Kudos to you and your family for all the hard work.
I really enjoyed this episode. Back to the basics!
you really need to do more of these. like back in the day
I'd like to see you bring the truck back around to just a good old pickup. Seems solid enough and worth a few hours and a few dollars of work to make it a reliable work truck again.
Thank you Derek, your kind words to Halfass Kustoms only proves you are a man of integrity and care about others. I'm so happy to be part of the VGG family and Halfass Kustoms. Brent may not have your level of subs but his fans are loyal, cheers!

Glad to see the good old Will It Run And Drive videos Back to basics
Love the mirror imaging @29:00 for the back and forth dialog. Very clever and entertaining!
I know you've done it before, but I'd love to see it again with a different engine. Do as cheap a rebuild on that old engine as you can. Keeping in mind most of us guys could learn a thing or 3, how to do it on a budget. The wife and kids gotta eat you know ;) Thank you Derek and especially the family supporting him being so busy.
A working radio!? Must be a sign. I would love to see this one fixed up, you could even do a series on that, and use it to revive some other projects closer to home. Great job Mr. Bieri!!!
Derek, Loved the new episode. I think you should make Remington your new rescue rig. Get the wind compressor working, plenty of room for your tools, batteries, tires, wheels, anything else you could think of. Fix the seat though. LOL
Nice find sir. I like to see it fixed with the boxes and your logo on it as a go to town rig.
Friday night revival with VGG, what a great way to finish the week 👍
I'm all in for refreshing the old girls heartbeat and keeping her just the way she is! Hopefully that air tank pump contraption works! A feller never knows when he might need a shot of air somewhere! Good buy Brother Derek!
Glad to see another 80s squarebody as an owner of one myself. Really enjoy these revive and drives 🤙
Love your content as always, Derek. Keep em' coming
Remington has joined VGG collection. Derek I think you should keep it as a service truck and get the Wind machine working again. Sure would be a handy rig.
Vice always make Friday’s better every time he makes the will it run and drive home I LOVE THIS SERIES 😂
What is that an old camaira front end back dair?
I would say keep it as a service truck but deck it out with organized tool storage on the sides and add the slide out deck boxes in the bed. Then when you are going to the different shows (Cleetus and Cars and such) you have the "Vice Grip Garage" service truck ready with everything a feller needs to keep his vehicles race worthy. Or... it becomes the Vice Grip Garage mobile merch truck.... it's a store on wheels!! :) Whatever you do with it, a feller is here for it.
Love this truck! The same exact truck I learned to drive in! Custom Deluxe! Was the old farm truck. Miss that thing!
I feel the service box should go, but I'd put a smaller tank in the bed and keep that air system. They do tend to come in handy! Thanks for another great video!!
Friday night VGG ... nothing better
Thanks for tuning in
I applaud you good sir! Thanks for coming back to this style of video. Reminds me of years ago. Absolutely love it and the style of the vid, plus your sense of humor during it all. Yaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Keep it as a service truck, Keep up the great work, I really enjoy watching your shows
I’d love the idea of turning one of these rigs into like a JC Whitney catalog special. All the old man tricks and traits.
I'll be dipped. Burnout builds, racing, and revivals all in one week!
Thanks for watching
Great episode! So much fun to watch. I think you should make "Remington" a going to town rig. Old boy has worked hard all his life. Now it's time to play. I mean the truck, not me lol
You have the best lines ever! I work as a fleet mechanic so I totally get what you’re saying and feeling! Best one that I heard was when you were being ‘optimistic’ and quickly that changed to ‘I’d like a refund on my optimism’ I was dying 😂
I just wanted to take a moment to appreciate all the types of content you put out. No-one knows just how much work and effort each video is and how long it takes to get everything in place. You're a hard worker through and through! Make sure to get some rest and cold snacks though. (not because you look tired or anything, I assume you work near around the clock to keep all these videos rolling with traveling and all the project you have it must be alot on the ol' to-do list not to make mention of the should-do list.)
A guy just never gets tired of seeing a feller on here. Long time fan and love the content as usual.
It's so cool hearing these old engines roar back to life.
You almost lost me when you wasn't going to flip the air cleaner lid😂, thank-you for restoring my faith in the human race
I'm from the UK so the lid flip was lost on me??
@@kbpplays1805 it was doen because it helped the motor breath a little better for more " power" All it really did was make it so you can hear the four barrel better 🤣
@@ramsay4804 haha OK thanks

I used to run a wild land fire engine (Type 6) on a 1983 Chevy 1 ton 4x4 chassis. When you showed the inside of the cab, it brought back some memories!
Derek I think you keep the tank, mount it in the bed lower and keep the air compressor, strip off the boxes and put in a lower profile tool box that you have laying around so it can be a revival/going to town rig. Just a thought. Keep up the great content!!
I like that a lot. Where he can just load whatever he needs into the truck without having to make constant trips to the store for whatever he needs. It obviously would be a major time saver when doing revivals.
You beat me to the idea. Completely agree!
But how does he drive the new revival truck and the resurrected both back? Ya know, 600 miles…
@@Saltshaker2016 Bring a buddy or the wife by saying we’re going to an exclusive get away retreat off the beaten path!

Hey Derek, I vote for keeping it a service truck that you take on future, "will it drive" vids. That way, you'll have just about everything you'll need. tools, air, a compartment for fluids, jack stands, and hopefully, one of those 4 jacks will work. As always, great content. Thanks! Chuck.
