Shawn Pilot ( known as the wheeler dealer at Gotham Garage on the Netflix hit series Car Masters Rust to Riches ) takes you along on a classic Corvette find. This Craigslist deal of all deals gets more interesting when Shawn tries to get it fired up after years of storage.
Special thanks to Corvette Pacifica my place for Corvette parts
Bedankt
Wow, my first "Super Thanks". I appreciate that, thank you. Or should I say bedankt.
@@ShawnPilot1 I would paint it Beverly Hills hot pink maybe you could paint it a pink variation
Good luck with that classic vetted. I bought a 72 vetted several years ago and boy was it a money pit!!!
@Shawn Pilot great videos!! Not sure of you're interested, but I've got a killer 1971 K5 Blazer I'm selling!!
I am quite sure that your brazier would be a lot less trouble than the 72 vette that purchased several years ago.
Gotham portrayed you as a guy who didn’t want to get your hands dirty . Nice job, looking forward to seeing more of your content! 👍🏻
Welcome aboard!
Glad I found your channel always liked watching you on Gotham hey man you got one heck of a deal
He grew up in a body shop...and now HE'S the star of the show...although guest appearances by the Gotham Garage crew would be welcome...
I agree,
At what point did you see him with dirty hands? None of the work was shown at all. It's fucking bullshit man! All drama and bullshit!
I have no idea how KZhead got me here but good lord did I love this freaking video. Your passion hit me right in the heart man. Well done sir, keep it up.
Big compliment, thank you.
If its numbers matching stick to the Ontario Orange! if not Black on Black is always cool. Great find and vid. Liked and subscribed.
Love this sort of thing .. great job Shawn .. can’t wait to see it painted .. I say go with original factory color
Me neither...I think I was watching a video about some fat kid locked inside a candy store. Then stupid KZhead algorithm took me to this video.
Agreed
This is SO much better than the show on Netflix! I had no idea the passion you have for cars and you work on them yourself! Nice job! I've subscribed!
You are the most entertaining and likeable and really knowledgeable car guy i have ever seen before and I've been around car people my entire life !!! Congratulations !!! You just made my day with this video and the burnout tire smoke show's !!! Thank you
He’s good but there’s way better channels out there
IDK where this dude came from but with such a nice shop, charismatic personality, and fun project ideas, I see this channel skyrocketing to the top.
I subbed today 😀
He is from the Netflix TV series Gotham Garage
LOL RIGHT?!?! HE JUST POPPED UP ON MY FEED.
Gotham Garage! That’s why he thinks he’s in a movie all the time! He’s a actor! But that know a lot how to get good prices on cars
I don't even watch these shows. It auto played and I couldn't stop watching.
"I got no brakes!" "I gotta go for a test drive!" You crack me up. I had a lot of fun watching this video. Nice job. Subscribed.
Glad you enjoyed!
@@ShawnPilot1 me too! I just had to subscribe as well! I totally understand the mindset: “Oh, Wow, it’s running! I’ve got to drive it!” No hood, air cleaner, outside mirrors, brakes, door panels, and it’ll probably just die half a mile from my shop….. “Screw the consequences, I’m going for a drive!” When it died I thought “Uh,oh! One gallon gas can + hungry un-tuned carb/motor +heavy right foot = long walk with empty gas can! Lol, great stuff! Can’t wait for more!
Reminds me of the time I saw a parked Range Rover with a leaking caliper. The driver came out, I showed him he said "Thanks" and drove away. Hope he didn't kill himself, or worse someone else! Re: the repairs, I've never had a coil crap out on a car like that! Coil packs on newer cars yes, but not on the older cars I owned with one coil. Good to know!!! Paint it red!! "Green ain't mean, cause there a red"
Keep it orig orange. Groovy color, groovy car!👍😎
@@DimlyAwareHUmAn I sold auto parts back in the day, coils going out was common enough, and they were a cheap trial and error fix.
Been watching Rust to riches to disengage a bit in the evenings, this channel is a pleasant surprise - hope it takes off for you Shawn. I think one thing that isn't touched on much in shows like this is the true cost of parts + time and actual profit, especially over a period ( some projects pay off more than others etc. )
Seeing your passion for corvette is unreal, nice to see you having a good time outside of GG keep up with the passion Shawn loving it ! 🙌🏻
My vote is for the Ontario Orange metallic, not many cars that color.
Semen cream interior .. then it’ll be like a creamsicle
I think back to original color would be the best bet. p.s. Flying Sparks Garage is working on their c6 & could certainly use some advice. Emily & Aaron are pretty cool folks.
I love these old Vettes! It was a time before they were insanely expensive and a man that worked hard could buy one to enjoy. Simple to work on and absolutely beautiful! I love people that are passionate about their vehicles you got a new subscriber keep them coming love it:P
I owned a '69 427 390hp with a 4 speed. It was totally stock when I bought it in 2004 with only 70K miles on the clock. Low optioned car without AC or even an AM/FM radio. Perfect color combination. LeMans Blue on a black interior. I had the paint corrected because they painted those cars in lacquer on fiberglass and it had lots of spider webbing. I sold it in 2011 because it was too much like the car owned me. Didn't want to change anything because I couldn't show it in C3 Stock if I did. It won lots of hardware after the paint correction. It was also one of the most uncomfortable cars I have ever owned, but it did get lots of eyeball out on the street. I bought a 2009 C6 in 2015 and I love it. More power, more room and it's Victory Red!
"I've gotta get out of here and... do some breathing." Caught me of guard and made me laugh. Great video!
I really want you to make it. The old show made you seem like a joke. You are a hard worker, smart, and are doing your own video work. Smart man. Too much respect for you
Walking away with the empty gas can with a fade out was actually kind of poetic. I'm kinda blown away by this video because I just haven't seen anything like this in a long time
The burnout in front of buddies gated house..lol.....These videos are gold...keep them comin...I stumbled on this by accident like many probly did.....
Frankenstein for real . I don’t even like cars but you brought this back to life was cool. Like watching a movie with a good ending
Damn bro I knew you’re a Corvette enthusiast but I didn’t know it was this deep…It was nice seeing you go through the trials and error process. I think it will inspire more people to go out there and do it themselves. Awesome channel 👍🏼
Corvette greed 😂
Omg this was so awesome to watch and see Shawn’s pure joy in bringing this car back to life. I’ve always liked him on Gotham garage and this confirms that he’s a passionate and genuine guy. Love it!
What's happening with your videos, just discovered your channel, it's brilliant don't stop man I was looking forward to more videos, then was disappointed to discover only the four , in please we want MORE!!!!!?!!!??
My dad had a 79 that he sold because of medical issues. Glad your channel came up on my KZhead feed. Can't wait to watch more.
Shawn, you rock! GG portrays you as a snobby deal geek, but you are hands-on and quick to diagnose. PAINT IT SEA FOAM GREEN
Good call, or jade which is about the same.
I said Corvette blue...but I think seafoam Green would be better My 65 Chevelle was seafoam Green....love that color for a chevy
uuuuuyyyy...yeahh
Gotham Garage was a Joke the fit and finish on some of those cars were horrible.
Sea Foam or Surf Green 💚
Put hose into pop bottle with brake fluid. Open bleeder. Pump away. Push out air bubbles. Been doing it for 30 yrs
Wrap the bleeder screw threads with teflon tape.
Well you did good. A while back I bought a '77 for $3000. Several years and $20,000 later I had a real nice restomod. Drove it for a few years and then sold it for $17,000, used that money towards an '06 coupe. Great cars these Vettes.
Hi Shawn, when I grew up, the early seventies , my fathers friend and mentor to me was a Structural Daftsman with his own firm. He bought a new 1972 Corvette Stingray. He immediately painted it Indian Red. It was slightly uneven colour like an indian rubber ball. Kind of a deep reddish wine. It looked fantastic on the car.
When Shawn walked backed with the empty gas can, I died of laughter.
How did you write your comment if you died?
@@OMGWTFLOLSMHColourful use of metaphors...
We've all been there.
Me too, notice how he left all that out of the video. Slick editor that he is and no mention of it from him either. As a corvette technician, maybe he was embarrassed, cause he knows he should not have run out of gas on his jury rigged tank.
Shawn, honestly I never would’ve thought it was originally orange. So I went and looked this car up in its original 1971 Ontario Orange, and I have to say, it looked pretty darn good in that color. Then I remembered that years ago a friend had an AMAZING looking Fender Stratocaster guitar in “Burnt Candy Tangerine”, so I did a search on that color, and found several hot rods that had been done in that color. You should take a look at that and consider Burnt Candy Tangerine for this Vette. It would hold some of the original appeal, but look a hundred times as amazing. Great find my friend! - A fan of old Vettes from New Hampshire
My sister had a 1972 Orange and a 1976 white. The orange was badass.
Orange sounds like a great color.

Great buy, great price, and a great mechanic; oh’ and a great Video! Still tinkering with my old 95 vet, and still much fun. Get more time, I will watch more of about your 71 model here!
You have no idea how much I love your tow vehicle. I always wanted a Jeep CJ but I'm also a sports car guy. I would so love that 71 corvette. That's right up my alley. When I bled brakes, I pumped it with my hand and used a piece of wood against the seat frame to hold it.
This is the best car show in a very long time. I always thought you where the person that actually knew what he was talking about in that netflix show. Finally a real mechanic making an entertaining show. 5stars 👍👍
Great video. This car fell into the hands of the right guy to raise it from the dead. Being a corvette guy, it’s like a new addition to his family. Great buy, great job and great video. Your humor was great too. Well done 👍🏿
Not sure how I landed on this page after viewing old jags, but this was so fun to watch! Great find and great job with the vette!
Hey Shawn, I always thought Gotham Garage didn't give you enough credit for all the work you did finding stuff for them. Now i know they didn't. You are a Mechanic too....KEWL BRO! glad to see your doing so well on your own. continue to post, i will watch your videos....Have a Great Day Dude....Mike
Shawn I just found your channel today. Love your content and your energy and vibe are amazing as well. This corvette fan and owner has subscribed.
Thanks and welcome
I watched you and Gotham crew when I was going thru chemo, so much thanks for keeping my tired brain entertained. This reminded me of my days in LA when that vette was new, damn I miss the early 70’s , racing at Riverside drive and cruising at Van Nuys Blvd. Keep up the awesome content! Subscribe!
I am 3 blocks from Van Nuys Blvd. I will keep them coming. Thanks for subbing.
Do people still cruise Van Nuys Blvd like they used to? My cousins and I used to cruise almost every Friday and Saturday nights. Then head over to Bob’s Big Boy on Riverside in Burbank.
@@ShawnPilot1The prices of classic cars are sinking like a rock. I think within the next 10-20 years those 60's and 70's muscle cars will only be worth a fraction of what they were 30 years ago. Especially, after the baby boomer generation dies off in which is sadly already starting to happen.
@@ShawnPilot1Therefore, you'll see great 50's, 60's and 70's classic car deals everywhere.
Just stumbled across this guy and I love his content, he's so genuine
Shout out from Malaysia Shawn. Loved you in GG and love you even more in this. You keep it real Shawn. Looking forward to more materials
What's really awesome about this car is that it's a manual, not an automatic.👌
That 71 is a real jewel. The great thing about fiberglass is that it doesn't rust! I spent 23 years at GM dealerships & one in particular was a big Chevy dealer. The owners private collection was mind blowing! From a 1923 Chevy Cabriolet with 23 miles on it to a set of Impala Convertibles from every year! Every year Camaro & Corvette too
They rust. Just not the body.
@@dukeallen432 lol... How well do I know... I've worked on a few thou Vettes in my time
That's the same year that a buddy of mine had. He almost never drove it. He pushed it out of the garage to wash a t then pushed it back into the garage which was carpeted. When he sold it in 1995 it had 3500 actual miles on it but the engine oil pan was just about rusted through. The underside was terribly rusted. The guy that bought it did a frame out complete restoration. He actually drove it to car shows an such.
What a score! I did sub so my vote: that factory Ontario Orange. If you wanted to drift a little from factory but still be orange that Mopar Burnt Orange metallic or Fords Competition Orange are really nice and either one would look killer on a 71 Vette and go great with a black interior.
That's an incredible deal for a classic Corvette! You've got yourself a real gem there, and we can't wait to see how it turns out once it's fully restored.
Lol, "a guy in Beverly Hills", that was a real strange looking Beverly Hills with alleys and cheap ass tract home. Looked like the San Fernando valley in the backyard of BH. Lol
you brought back memories i would love to relive all this one more time at 61 great vid
I just subscribed, Shawn your my favorite guy in Gotham Garage but also I love Corvettes and its cool to see your knowledge on them and the junkyard full of them!! So awesome! I'll be checking in on your channel for new videos now 👍
Shawn, that '71 Stingray was a great buy. If that is the original long block in it, then the '71 has higher compression than a smog pump equipped '72, eh? I think that particular Vette body style looks fantastic in Black or White, in my opinion. Your "parts yard" is impressive. Happy to be a subscriber. Best of Luck!
Great to see you posting on KZhead. Looking forward to sharing your next installment. Stay safe J.
Great show. Just tuned in and now a subscriber. As far as a color, I think candle apple Red. Sure to get noticed and probably a ticket or two. Look forward to the next show.
It's a 4 speed too 👍
Man what an episode!! I absolutely loved this old school Corvette restoration, keep 'em coming! 🔥
I just happened upon your videos and completely fell in love with your presentation and I am a Corvette lover. I just bought my first Corvette it’s a C8 2023 hardtop convertible three LT. I wish I had your skills I would definitely rebuild Corvettes it would be awesome but I really enjoy watching your videos and thank you very much.
Shwan, in the show I liked your character, but here you rock man. Excellent work I look forward all your videos
Netflix should give you your own show bro! This is quality content.
Ha ha ha
Dude this guy breaks it down so easily to understand and how to diagnose a car! I barely know anything about cars 😂 keep on making these videos brotha !!
Thanks! Will do!
I love how he is overcome by excitement and everything else takes a back seat so that he can go for a quick test drive. Of course that little gas tank only takes him so far and now he's stranded. I relate to this so much haha
Man you are the man, it always fun seeing you on the other show, as others glad to have found your channel. keep it going brother!!
I knew you had some experience playing with cars, I'm glad your starting a KZhead channel, we need more videos like this, showing the younger generation how cool older rigs are, and how easy to work on they are, keep up the great work
Thanks! Will do!
Oh man... I bumped into your video by accident. Love how you're doing it! Keep it real, show the fails and celebrate the wins!
Good to see you here Shawn. You deserve your own content. There was always something not transparent about Gotham Garage.
Incredible, you made quick work of this one, Shawn. Awesome job!! fist bumps from Canada
If the block and head numbers match the car I would go with the original Ontario Orange. It was one of my favorite colors anyway. I also liked the War Bonnet yellow for '71. I had my '71 big block painted with Dupont Imron Seminole red metallic and it looked really good. You can never go wrong with any red or black on the C3 Vettes. Just go with whatever color appeals to you!
The original color it came with would definitely raise someone's attention it's not my car but if it has 64k on the milage, number matched, then you already know it's value, seems your luck is off to a better horizon, liked the show, presentation as well 😁
thank you
My opinion , orange looks cheap , but maybe close to original with copper or bronze metallic mix would pop more modern (?)
Orange does NOT look cheep especially factory 71 orange.
New subscriber. Factory orange! Be well. Art
dont detract from an original color regardless of what it is,fuck making it modern.thats the best part about this car,it aint modern trash
Shawn I’m so happy I came across your channel bud! Never imagined would’ve found you having your own KZhead show, you are great at what you do, looking so forward to every upload🫡🙌🏼loved this video
Shawn, you were the best personality on the show. hats off to you mate and wish you all the best! Easiest subscribe ive clicked!
I don’t own a Vette but Shawn’s videos are so entertaining. Keep ‘em coming
Just stumbled on this channel. I could tell that there was more to Shawn than what was portrayed on the show. If anything, Shawn was the most important part of the crew, finding buyers and deals. Anyways, I was looking for part 2 of this video and was surprised to see that there are only 4 videos on the channel. Part 2 is not one of them. I hope we get more videos. The content is good.
Good stuff enjoyed watching this the jokes and all. Made me laugh out loud when you grabbed another person to help you. 🤣🤣🤣
Aaah I love older BMWs but 70’s Corvettes I have a liking to. Nice to see your Channel Mr Pilot
You gotta paint it red Shawn. BTW your humbleness and passion is out of this planet. keep doing what you love and God bless you.
Dude is a cross between David Spade and Dana Carvey. Excellent Channel! For wheels that are locked up you can put fiberglass cafeteria trays under each stuck wheel. They will slide like butter.
Where were you when I needed that advice. I will remember that one.
Wow, I had no idea you know so much! The TV show doesn't do you justice! Lol great vid!
Very entertaining video not sure how you’re video popped up but it was very cool to see. Great deal on the 3500 corvette!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤙🏽
That's an incredible find for 3500! Nice buy and I would put it back the original color That will add value and that car is worth it being wreck free! But you know that already.
Shawn you are to cool ! After being in the car business most of my life starting with a family shop I’ve pretty much done everything. I’m never impressed with most car guy videos but for some reason I kept watching and I’m glad I did. You seem like a really nice guy that’s not so full of himself I can’t even watch and you seem a genuine gear head. I’ll drop in once in awhile and see what your up to. Good luck on your next score, this one was the deal of a lifetime !
Thanks Holly
I was instantly jealous of your purchase. And then I started watching and realised you have a Corvette street buggy. Now i want to be you.
Not just entertaining but educational as well great Shawn well done! Keep it up 👍 You always were fun to watch in Gotham garage great show by the way me and my kid loved it
Hey Shawn, I’m so happy to see you on KZhead! I hope you’re very successful. I went through a half dozen 68-75 Vettes in my earlier years. My favorite was a 72 LT-1 with Air. I think it was the only solid lifter car with AC that GM ever made. I think they made 271 of them. I sure wish I still had it. It was remarkably weak In performance compared to a 70 LT -1. The pollution control stuff and the lower compression made a huge difference in performance. You really made me “homesick” for another. I may start looking for another. I’m really wondering if I’ll enjoy driving one, it’s been a long time! PS: No question in my mind on the color. Ontario orange. It’s original and orange is popular again. If you’re lucky they prepared the jams poorly and they’ll be easy to strip.
How are you not more popular, what charm, what passion and what energy. You are amazing sir, reminds me of the roadkill episodes here on youtube and I love those!
A fast Corvette like that should be painted sky blue just like my 1975 Firebird that no car could beat on a race. But now I moved up to something really faster that flies like a hurricane storm. Passing through. But quite a little bit dangerous as well. But yes sky blue paint will be super nice looking on that fast 1971 Corvette. That always been my dream car since I was a kid. All I can say I wish you the best luck on that nice car. That was a totally great find. Take care and God bless you man and have a great Thanksgiving.
Well... I guess I need to find a classic Vette to add to my growing collection of trucks. Just found your channel and this has been fun! Enjoy living your dream, I'm having fun with mine. 😂
Great video Shawn. I paid 3500 for my first Corvette back in 1977. It was a 1968 base Coupe with a 327 and 3 speed manual trans. Was super nice car and fun to drive! I did a frame on restoration.
Thanks Shawn for this entertaining and informative video. You're a Corvette mechanic genius. Keep up your labor of love. Shout out from NYC.
First video watching you and I'm hooked. Love that dune buggy style red Vette! Your joyful mannerism boasts excitement to my viewership! Thanks and. excited to see more! Donation added.
Hi Shawn I just saw the video with the 71 Corvette and you’re so funny when you’re bleeding the brake, you make me laugh 😂😂😂 actually the hold video was fun keep up with the good work you are awesome.
Really enjoyed the video and your energy. Can’t wait for the follow up video! Love that you’re explaining the real time diagnoses and showing how it’s done.
Literally just binged all of Shawn's videos in reverse order and I really welcome this version of Shawn. In the show yeah he's cool and fun but now comparing this Shawn to GG Shawn, he's just so much happier, fun, energetic, and full of life compared to GG. In the show he gets little screen time and he feels muted compared to how he behaves here. I'm glad KZhead recommended me Shawn's channel and I super look forward to future videos and I do hope that moving forward, the directors of Gotham Garage can let Shawn either have more screen time or let him be more like this or both. I'd love to see Shawn more like this on the show.
Also kinda jealous that as someone who lives decently close by your area, frequently surfs online for cars to buy, I can't find killer deals like you lol. That's just the Shawn magic at work I guess 😅
Just found your channel…. Loving it mate keep up the good work very entertaining. From the uk .
Your freakin awesome Shawn!!!! Loving the content. I was bummed to see Gotham Garage end. And, I feel you were the main character.
The car does sit nicely in the Ontario Orange, works well with the interior, matches the VIN and is a period colour. Another colour from that year that will catch some eyes is War Bonnet Yellow, the lines of the '71 vettes with the chrome really show off bright metallic colours. If I had a choice of colour to own I would probably go with Bridghampton Blue, Or Brands Hatch Green and these may appeal better to the masses. You could go for some flames or details on the hood, but I think the lines of the car speak for themselves.
I vote for the Bridgehampton Blue. Look forward to seeing what you chose.
you remind me of my late-grandfather figure. super into corvettes, always got that mechanic sense of humour, and was the sole reason im into corvettes myself. he heard that i was gonna save up and buy a 1996 Chrysler New Yorker for my first car, and shoved his then (now mine) 1989 C4 Corvette in my face for two grand, and is now my first car. absolutely loved the heck out of this video! glad i discovered your channel
Shawn I love your videos. Your knowledge and personality ROCK.
This is my very first video that I watched of yours and I can say "You're a hilarious" I was laughing my ass off on your jokes. As for as the color for the 71' Stingray, I'd say A Dark Royal Midnight Blue color would be freaking awesome!
I love watching you put old corvettes together.....never owned one but always wanted one
This upload is awesome. Although I'm a casual watcher of channels like this one and I don't know a lot of about cars, I enjoy these types of show. If this channel keeps making contents like this, it will reach 1M subscribers soon. Content is great; there's humor, knowledge and drama to overcome.
My first episode . COOL BEANS . I HAD just watched a video from Maple car sales where they wanted like 30000 . This one is great ! Awesome work all by yourself . How do you not have friends ?subbed!! I love white cars ... whether they stay or start with the blank canvas. Silver...gold. cool cool silver with black panels or something vintage . Everybody does red or blue. Great show.
