Hello everyone,
This week at the château, Terry starts work on the bathrooms throughout the Château. Currently we only have one bathroom and one separate toilet for the whole property, so to create a three beautiful bathrooms Terry need to clear out each of the rooms, work out the location for water feeds and waste, plus lift three Parquet floors so he can reuse them at a later date.
While lifting the floors, throughout the château, Terry has a couple of good and bad discoveries along the way.
After a couple of hard days work, Terry manages to escape from the château to visit another spectacular Château and it’s owner to deliver a surprise present, you can see the gift from us to La lande at,

ABOUT US.
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

  • What is so exceptional in watching is how your family went into this project in a non-live able chateau, and doing this bit by bit, and keep on trucking on. The process is just amazing. The findings along the way are so fun and treasures. Keep on going on! This family is amazing, all the way to littlest member. 👍🏼

  • Tracy is amazing in all the work she does. You have a wonderful mother Terry. Love how dad Tony just gets on with things working quietly. As well as taking on the job of raising a grandson and working so hard to help you and Ash, they are simply generous and very giving and exceptional people. Love the colour of the future pistachio bathroom. What a find to have the original panelling still there. Really enjoy your videos. You are all doing a great job and so interesting and down to earth to watch. Love the weekly chat at the end . So glad to have found your channel .

  • A pro tip my dad gave me and one I used when I ripped up the carpets and 2 layers of lino and 1965 newspapers to reveal beautiful wooden floors in my 1920s Queenslander home...I'm an Aussie. When you sand the floors, you save the sawdust and mix it 50/50 with a PVA wood glue (which is cheap as chips!) And fill any cracks and joins. You can only mix small batches at a time as it goes off fairly quickly, and you have to thoroughly clean your containers and tools in between, or it will go off even quicker. (Much like plastering.) It took me 2 months of weekends to do miles of seams and cracks, but I'm so glad I did. It has made a huge difference in sealing and bonding it together and no squeaks or crevices for dust to collect in. Nice smooth floors. Wish I could post you a before and after photos, but I don't know how to do that on KZhead. Just thought I'd share that very worthwhile tip with you all. It is time consuming, but one you won't regret doing.

    • @@chateaudelalacelle oh I forgot to add don't use the first corser sand sawdust, as it is loaded with years of dust and will make it very dark and dirty. Do a second finer sand and save that sawdust. It still comes up darker than your floor boards but still turns out nice. Good Luck. Love seeing the transformation and work your doing to restore a piece of history.

  • Snakes: I had friends whose mother told them to catch and remove all the snakes in their house. Within a season, there were so many mice in the house that she told them to go catch snakes and bring them indoors! Garden: if you post a plan, with cardinal directions and a description of your soil, you will get loads of suggestions. Do plan on planting a load of fruit trees next spring, since they take a good long while to produce fruit.

Seeing that all of the original paneling was still there and finding the original color was a real treat. The right shade of vintage green can be quite stunning. Packing sand in between the floor and ceiling was a very common form on insulation. So exciting to hear Ash talk about the garden. A lot of work, but the reward will pay back in spades. Can't wait to see what you all will do with it.

Spectracide makes one in the US but there should be products in France. You are all making great progress in both the chateau and the cottage. The bathroom paneling still being behind the tile is a wonderful find. It is beautiful. Much prettier than tile!

Most people won't want to know that their house is also home to all sorts of wildlife. We know we have snakes living around us. We even saw babies one year. As long as the little critters don't do any harm, leave well enough alone. Thanks for sharing, it's great seeing the progress. From Essex, England

  • Formal flower and shrub beds are usually deeper dug into the subsoil, and pathways have firm bedding. You should get an archaeologist to come along and do a resistivity survey of the walled garden, to see if any of the former layout survives and can be plotted. Would save you a lot of digging.

  • Terry, I saw you stuffing ceramic tiles into two bags and carrying them downstairs. With all the demolition you may be doing, that will wear you to a frazzle. You need to find a way to throw the rubble out the window. In the U.S., we use plastic rubble shoots that contain the trash and guide it into a dumpster on the ground below the demolition site. Then a truck comes and lifts it up and carries it away to the dump. If they don't have that system there, maybe you could place bins below the windows and cart them away, or just throw trash on the ground and scoop it up later with a backhoe.

  • I just love all of the footage of Terry pulling up the floor boards and clearing out the bathrooms. I enjoy the explanations he gives of the process. It is all so fascinating. I cannot wait to see the before and after of Terry & Ash’s apartment suite when it is finished. I know it is going to be gorgeous! You are a lovely, hard-working and talented family. Best of luck for great success on the chateau. Maybe one day I will have the opportunity to visit. 🤞🏼🤞🏼

  • Incredible hard work but so much progress. Terry can you please buy some knee pads. They will protect the knee joints.. You will save yourself from damage and pain for the future. Loved this week's vlog. The chateau is going to be beautiful. 💜 The story of the chair for Stephanie at Lalande was lovely. 😊

  • I admire all the hard work you are all doing. Thanks for taking us on your renovation journey. How do you keep those white t-shirts looking so clean? You are rich in original paneling! I felt guilty admiring the beautiful paneling and banister as you carried those bags of bricks down the staircase.

  • Always knew there was other ways of using supermarket bags, but i tend to use them for all sorts too. That wall was scary when you removed the panelling, lucky it just sat there. All the bathrooms are going to look amazing, hope your keeping all the panelling in the rooms that have it, i think it's lovely. Stay safe and look forward to the next part. XX

  • Hi everyone, what I truly love about watching your videos, is the dynamics of your relationship with each other, it's wonderful! Terry all the hard work you do & you still managed to take the time out and deliver the beautiful chair to Stephanie, which is absolutely beautiful. Quite the work-out carrying all that debris out...you certainly don't need a gym to keep fit! Was nice to see Jonathan. I've said it before, but I think you are all really amazing! Another love chat at the end, I feel like it's just a lovely visit with some friends. Thank you so much for sharing, take really good care of yourselves, stay safe! Much love Kathy x (Ontario, Canada)

  • I just found your channel as it was suggested to me by KZhead, I had been watching another chateau but they got upset with me for some reason. I sure do wish to have such a wonderful project and a handsome partner with mom and dad helping, but I’m too old for all of that now. I look forward to watching you get on with this project, and getting to know you better. I will watch your older videos to see how you started out. Your friends ChuckandMax

  • Agree with @Sonia Hamilton that an elevator would be great to have, or at least plan for it in the layout so it can be added at a later stage. Provides you with more options when it comes to using the building for guests (mobility) and also for you when you get older.
