Bonjour à tous,
This week at the château, Terry tackles the wiring in the turret. Fitting four antique wall lights to light up the third floor, but has a bit of a problem finding a route through the wood panelling.
Ash continues with the taping and jointing in the bedroom and fits some more plaster board in the bathroom with he’s friend Lee.

About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

  • I love you guys show so much that I quit binge watching my favorite show on Netflix on a Sunday. I cannot wait to see a room finished because Terry has exquisite taste. The chair you made for Stephanie was absolutely beautiful. And I would love to see more of your mom and dad's cottage updates. There is so much I'm so excited I can't wait much love from Oklahoma USA Jackie 🇺🇸💖 PS I love the shorts! If you want to do them do them it's no one's business I love them lol

  • If there’s space I’d turn that into a single bedroom for the BnB. It’s stunning up there! Wow! Great job Terry. I love discovering more rooms as you do. Makes me feel like I’m there. I get so excited vicariously! 🤣🤣 God bless all of your and be safe. I don’t know if they have killz in France, but it’s miraculous. Two coats cover and stop mold and any discoloration on the plaster. Then paint or wallpaper as normal.

  • I am completely addicted to watching your restoration. It makes me tired seeing all the work you do and all the heavy lifting you do. I'm from Southern Vermont and had to do a double take when I heard you say you got a card from Vermont!! Very exciting. Johnathan was so cute when he opened his gifts and the love in your eyes watching him. The patience you all have with him while teaching him so many new skills! I've got a long way to go with your episodes. I'm a retired upholsterer and I think I heard Terry say that he was also an upholsterer. More power to you on your great adventure!!!

  • Lovely stuff team. Terry: in the Turret I would insolate the Turret ceiling cavity, with R24 or something suitably thick, while you are up there doing that electrical work. That hall way will act as a chimney for heat so you'll want a nice heat barrier at the top to prevent it sucking heat from the second floor straight up and out. Ash: re the joint compound. it looks good, but your doing it the hard way. Use two rough coats on unpainted walls and ceilings the aim here is big holes filled in and the area flat. The final coat of filler should be after you use a primer. You can not see the dips and imperfections when there is too much going on, the primer gets rid of the noise and highlights the dips and holes. Which means you can be more focused and accurate with your finish fill. If you are doing a traditional English plastered wall, I'd always primer even before any fill for the same reasons. you use less filler and get a faster and better result. I would not use a orbital sander either. I use a long board (12 to 18 inches) with paper double-sided to that, its faster and you get a flatter wall. keep the layers thin per coat and your sanding work is just a few strokes per area. I hope that helps.

  • Just going to mention. You have a tower, not a turret. A tower starts at the ground. A turret hangs off the side of a building. You can have a turret on a tower, but not the other way around. Tha paneling in the tower is going to be lovely when its all cleaned up.

  • In regard to your kitchen can I recommend you have drawers instead of cupboards as they are much easier to keep clean and you can see everything when you open the drawers. Have you heard of the product Restofinish? This might be extremely good on your panelling and save you a lot of hard work. You can view the product on line. I love what you are doing, I have enjoyed DIY over many years furniture restoration, upholstery, curtain making etc. My only regret is I am too old to climb a ladder!! All the very best wishes from Brisbane, Australia.

    @ellenbirmingham1404@ellenbirmingham14042 жыл бұрын
    • I'm really curious what the electrician is going to say about using singles in that old timber trunking! The French regs are fairly strict in a lot of ways so I'd expect wiring has to be double-insulated and the timber doesn't count as insulation.

      @Ragnar8504@Ragnar85042 жыл бұрын
    • @@Ragnar8504 yes, I would have removed all the old wooden trunking (in Australia we call it troughing) and put the wiring behind the panelling. We use TPS cabling here which is double insulated and we only use corrigated conduit if the cable needs mechanical protection. All that conduit had me scratching my head. In fact in Australia all electrical work can only be done by a licenced electrician.

      @mojogaucho@mojogaucho2 жыл бұрын
    • @@mojogaucho That's more a matter of local preference, in Austria we pretty much do the same as in France, in Germany they mostly use cable. Conduit, if installed properly, does make it easy to replace damaged wires or add wires without disturbing walls. I think in France it's actually required by the regs. whereas elsewhere in Europe it's just considered good practice.

  • Seeing your care and attention, this will carry the Chateau forward, safely, for another century. The turret stair and panelling are a wonder. Well lit and polished it will glow.

  • I'm amazed how Terry got that panelling up on his own and did a really good job. Ashe's plastering is going well considering the walls are so uneven. 😆😆😆 I really enjoy the shorts it's a nice surprise and gives us a peek at where you are at with the jobs

  • Terry you and your mom have an amazing energy. Ash love the spray painting you have done and the refurbishing the original parts that you have taken from the original Chateaux. It is amazing how far you have all come. Please can we get an update on the cottage . Has Tony been able to finished upstairs? All the hard work will pay off when you have your first paying guests. Regards all the way from South Africa

  • I love watching you as you are progressing with each project. You are getting on so welll. I wish I was young again to come and help out, but as a 66 year old disabled lady I know I would be worse than useless! Anyway, look forward to see what you are doing next. All the best, Mel Campbell

  • Hi Terry & Ash, The antique wall lights are beautiful, love the detail on them. You are both doing such an awesome job, glad you had some help Ash with the drywall. I enjoyed the short videos, but it's up to you guys, they are a lot of work to set up, but were very much appreciated. Hope Jonathan has a wonderful visit with his parents. Thank you so much or sharing, take really good care of yourselves, stay well! Much love Kathy x 💖
