Rusty Trick Dog Mechanical Coin Bank Restoration - A Funny Way to Save Money
In today's video I restored a Mechanical Coin Bank , under the name of Trick Dog Mechanical Coin Bank. It's a nice restoration video and the test at the end of the video is very funny. Enjoy the restoration !
About the restoration video :
I saw this mechanical coin bank on Ebay and I decided to buy it for do a restoration. I saw many other models have been restored but this model has not. After the toy came to me, I noticed that many parts were not original (from what I have been able to document before). Which made the restoration more interesting because I had to create some parts on the lathe and milling machine and others needed only restoration. That's mean the restoration process was quite complex but definitely worth it. After the whole restoration , at the end I had to apply a painting job, of which I am very proud of it. As usual , I will tell you how long the restoration took : I worked for a month on the actual restoration, and on editing the restoration video took me 5 days.
Please consider subscribing if you want not to miss the notifications for my next restoration videos. I love you all and I wish you well until next time.
More about this Trick dog Mechanical Coin Bank :
This is an interesting fancy bank. The base of which measures 84 inches in length and 24 inches in width. The bank represents a clown dressed in circus clothes and he hold a hoop; the coin is placed in the dog's mouth and by touching the lever , the dog jumps through the hoop and deposits the coin in the barrel. The "Trick Dog" bank was conceived by Mr. Daniel Cooke, an inventor who resided in Camden, New Jersey. On July 31, 1888, he was granted Design Patent Number 18,489. The bank was initially produced by the Shepard Hardware Company, of Buffalo, New York, and is referred to by collectors as "Trick Dog".

Very cool project and nice machining on that brass part!
"I make a new one" :)
You have great content my mechanics!
Thank you very much my mechanics 😍😍😍
Just friggin awesome! It's soul soothing watching your vids.
You are kind to say that Aussie 😇 thanks
I love how all the different restoration channels are so interconnected and supportive of one another
Yeah..that’s mean peace 🙏🏻
Wife comes home “Honey I’m....... WHERE IS MY HANGER!?”
😅😅😅👍🏻
XD
HONEY GET THE PENETRATING OIL
It's a Holahoop for the coin trick circus dog 😅
😂😂😂
I just can't get over how creative you are. I'm addicted to these videos.
🥰🥰🥰 thanks again Seth
La final restaurată ,este mai bună ca ,,fabricat,, .
And the tombstone reads " I told him not to mess with my hangers!" Awesome video and talent, thanks 👍.
I don't think so. IF she's using wire hangers, she really doesn't give a care. Throwing her clothing down like that, well maybe that gets him in trouble. A class lady uses wooden or at least wide plastic hangers.
Thank you very much William 😍
Too tall, you know that I made that scene because of the video ,right?
@@tootall5559 🤣🤣🤣
@@CoolAgainRestoration as much as I use hangers for stuff, I didn't think about that.
My parents went through a phase where they gave my sister and I Christmas presents that were restored coin banks or ceramic things. I had this exact same bank... just painted differently. Not really something an 8 year old girl is thrilled with.
I honestly as a 12 year old right now, would love this
I too have this coin bank. It's in alot better condition though and i found it in a cigar box.
@John Barber woah
I always got socks and or underwear.
My gram would always get us pajamas. Would've rather had a coin bank 😅
I love watching your channel, it’s so satisfying to watch items from the past be restored into their former glory
Thank you very much Brianna 🤗
“I think I did a good job” saying you did a good job is a massive understatement. You did an incredible job!
Thank you very much Freezy Pop. 😇
This makes me so happy and sadly nostalgic at the same time. I used to have so many of these types of banks when I was a kid
Then you has a nice childhood 😇
I watch your videos with my daughter when they come out over a bed time story. She loves to see the restorations come to life and I think they are very educational. We both love your content.
You are so kind to say that and glad you liked. Thank you very much Moi Magana 👍🏻🤗
That was amazing!!! It's a privilege to watch you ply your skills on these projects. It's so nice to see a craftsman who truly cares about his/her outcome; that's a rarity in our "throw it away" society here in the States. Bravo, and thanks for another great video. Be well, stay safe and God bless. Rev. D.
Stay safe you too buddy and thank you very much for appreciation. That mean a lot for me 😎👍🏻🍻cheers
Those golden days of humen life. All these toys had been symbol of love. Your magical touch made it presicius
Thank you very much 😊
Glad I spotted this before bed. What a great restoration. Not just the work, and the detail. The piece is irreplaceable. Now it is better than new. Wonderful job my friend. Especially for such a rare piece.
You are kind to say that my friend. Thank you very much 👍🏻😎 cheers 🍀
ya you can just see twain by his thumb
Not irreplaceable at all. It's a mid-20th century repro. Lots of them out there to purchase.
It was so rusty I didn’t think it would have something left to restore. Amazing work!
Thank you very much Larissa 😊 glad you liked it
Me relaxing at 4am watching this video silently when im dozing off and to hear “No” randomly from the fucking matrix scared me awake
This is great! I had this exact bank when I was a kid. Don’t know what happened to it. Thank you for the restoration!
Glad you liked and thank you also for watching Mike 👍🏻🍻😎
Mike, I still have mine! (It's a 1970's repro) but I still love it! CAR, excellent job! It looks better than mine! And mine is in great condition!
Thank you very much Desdinova 😎🤗
Is the colouring like the Original?
A fabulous little money box given the restoration it deserves. Loved the video.
Thanks and glad you liked gordon 🍻🥳
My grandma had this. Hope we still have it, it'd be cool.
You could operate in that shop! That has to be the cleanest shop I’ve ever seen! Great restoration job!
Thank you very much Richard. I’m doctor..sometimes I make surgery there 😅😅😅
@@CoolAgainRestoration so am I, and yet mine looks nothing like that LOL 😂
😅😅😅
Awesome to see something reusable under all that rust Great job
I like intros like that. I also really like the panning shots, showing the item. The stripped screw trick is new to me, I'm going to have to try that some time. Very enjoyable editing in this video, too, by the way! No jokes (this time), just praising the talent and care that goes into this sort of work!
You are very kind to say that 😇 thanks ReMarx 😎
That sudden "NO" from Neo made me jump a bit :D
I love these, wizard behind the curtain. Type things. At beginning looks so complicated. Then taken apart, is springs and wire - so simple. Great restoration work. Always remembering, which piece goes where.
Thanks a lot and glad you enjoyed so much 😊
My grandfather had this bank too!! He collected several like this, and remember playing with it as a child, loving to watch the dog jump through the hoop! Thank you for bringing back this memory ❤
Thanks a lot Kim and glad you liked it so much! Cheers
What a charming piece! I loved the colors you chose, specially for the clown. Congratulations.
Thank you very much Jose 👍🏻
My grandparents had mechanical coin banks in their rec room, when I was growing up. We would raid my parents for all coins so we could work them.
You did an AWESOME JOB on this bank resteration sir. 👍👍👍👍👍
What an amazing thing. She pleases the eye, entertains and even predicted the future! The clown, the fundraiser, these colors... I'm extremely surprised! Thanks for the restoration. Thank you for the video! I wish you success!👍👍👍👍
Thank you very much 👍👍
Se você é brasileiro e caiu aqui por acaso saiba... Este é o melhor perfil de restauração, do KZhead.
Perfect work, thank you for the video :) Radek
Thank you Radek 👍🏻😇
Correct👍👍
I'm a simple man. Cool Again Restoration tells me to like, I press like. Awesome job as always, love your videos!
Thank you very much for this 🤗
My grandma use to take me to this antique shop when I was little n there was a whole shelf of these lil trick banks, some in better condition than others but it sparked a luv of classic things XD
Very nice 😊
My dad owns one of these, I'll have to show him this 😊 great video, glad I found your channel!
Thank you very much Michelle 😇
Nice restauration
Really?
Good inglish
hopefully you can now go to the restoreant...
hope u like u with that have u see that seem to be resturasion
I do not understand how 300+ did not like this. I fear for the world. Thank you so much for teaching me👍🙏
Thanks Mike 👍🏼🍻
Awesome restoration. This is my favorite bank...have never owned one but this is the one I would have wanted. The Phillips screws date this bank to no earlier than 1932, but most probably after 1936, unless it was older and restored once before...
I think was restored or something changes because i noticed some wrong screws and the paint doesn’t look like original paint
Its always so fun to watch these things go from old to brand new looking
Glad you liked it Jerico 👍🏻🍻
OMG I HAVE THIS ANTIQUE BANK AT MY HOUSE. I have never clicked so fast because its my favorite antique bank here
Thanks again Alister 😇
I'd love to have that cute little coin bank! It's adorable!
Thanks Anette 🤗
It blows my mind that you just MAKE new parts! My mind cannot even phantom where to start and you’re like busting it out like it’s no biggie! I’m always intrigued, curious and amazed at your videos!
11:03 - Every married man man watching be like "Run, you fool..."
😅
Lol
OMG I have this EXACT bank! I got it as a birthday present many years ago. Aside from some color differences, and mine is missing the hoop, it’s in great condition. I’ve been waiting to see if anyone was ever going to restore one of these! Great job. PS-I like your color choice better than how mine came!
You are so kind to say that Amanda. Thank you very much 😇
My aunt has this toy and I used to love playing with it as a kid. Thanks for bringing back memories
You are welcome and glad you enjoyed 😊
Cool outcome of the money bank and the little puppy bark..
Thanks Charlie 🍻👍🏻🍀
I was waiting impatiently the " I'll make a new one "😆😆- Very good job man 👌
Thank you very much man,but I can’t use that phrase..i’m not the owner of his 😅
I wish Titanic can be brought back from ocean floor and can be handovered to this guy for restoration.. 😊
You are so kind to say that.. thanks for appreciation 🤗
hearing the rusted screws get removed is so weirdly satisfying
🤩🤩
I can’t believe this. I inherited this exact bank from my great-grandmother (only, I believe the hoop broke off). This is surreal.
When something you played with as a child is called antique..
Can relate, showed my old Nintendo Gameboy to my nephew: "WOAH, that is ancient" 27 Years old Me: 👴
😅😅😅😅😅 time go fast
@@CoolAgainRestoration true words! really lovely restauration though❣️
That’s pretty cool! I actually have the same coin bank and you did a good job, even if the colors are a bit off.
Thanks Nick 👍🏻🤗
I think the dog should be brown
I’ll never get tired of watching your restoration, they’re all so relaxing to watch, and seeing the end product from what it was before is extremely satisfying!
Thank you very much 🤗
@@CoolAgainRestoration welcome!

Класно получилось у тебя отреставрировать эту игрушку, даёшшь монетку, а она кидает её! Молодец!
"I'm very likely to be killed by my wife" Me: If you see her coming to kill you, you have 1 option: *run.*

WRONG: OFFER THE TOY AS GIFT SAYING IT WAS MADE OUT OF HER HANGER! XD
“Do you like the name of my wood lathe?” Plays John whick meme
🤩🤩🤩
That’s the matrix lmao
It's cool seeing old and rusted stuff renewed. Instead of stuff that looks like was rusted just for the camera.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Very nice job on this one! Someone showed me trick with bicycle tube around 15 years ago and I completely forgot! Thanks for bringing this back 😄
My name is : david. David Reminder 😅😅😅😅 ah,and I forgot : 🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻
👍👍👍
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
You were good until you took your wife’s hanger...😳. Hard to believe that rusted mess turned out so well. Great job!
You need to believe 😅😅
My great-grandpa had a small collection of mechanical coin banks. One looked like this one. I had forgotten all about them until I saw this video. He had a bunch of neat things in his home, including a slot machine, some furbies, and a bowl of candy that he left out for when his great-grandchildren visited.
I liked that little stop motion with the base walls.
Thanks Lauren
@@CoolAgainRestoration No prob. I know how tedious doing all of the frames can be and how much work is put into it, no matter how long it is.
That brass part... 🐶 looks amazing! The dogs eyes, add a tiny dot of black for the pupils :)
I thought at that but I think I forgot 🙈
@@CoolAgainRestoration 😂
Was surprised to see it originally came with Philip head screws made restoration a lot easier to original great job on the restoration
I'm always amazed how after who knows how many decades under tension, springs still coil back to their original shape when removed.
Love watching these old mechanical banks being restored.
Thank you Paul, glad you liked it
Great restoration. I really enjoy the sandblasting. Thanks for the video.
BRAVO! VERY RELAXING TO LOOK YOU WORKING. NICE TO TAKE BACK TO A NEW LIFE TO SUCH WASTED TOYS.
Glad you liked it Marc 👍🏼👍🏼
@@CoolAgainRestoration IT WAS SO RUSTY! YOU FOUND IT IN THE SEA?
Watching one of your restorations before I go to bed has become my routine; it's so perfect and relaxing😌👌.
Thank you very much for your kindness 😊
Outstanding work! I was wondering how the clown would turn out but the hand painted detail that you added was just perfect!
Glad you liked it Andrew 😊
Watching this video brought back all kinds of memories. My grandfather had a nice collection of cast-iron banks, and he had one like this. I think that my sister inherited it. I got the magician one that reminded me of him. ❤️
Amount of efforts and money and wife's hanger you put into this is insane 😀😀
😇thanks mate
@@CoolAgainRestoration welcome mate
You're such brilliant technician, thanks for the tip on removing stripped screws
Glad you liked it ILC 👍🏻👍🏻
OMG! Perfect! Fantastic! Amazing! Perfect work 👏👏👏👏 × Greetings from Brazil ×
My friends grandparents have this exact same thing in amazing condition, it's crazy seeing it on KZhead. Once again great job on the restoration!
Thanks Zachery 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Привет канал 👍 С женским платьем было очень круто 👍
This was so much fun to watch. My dad had one of these when he was young and I used to play with it when I visited his mom with him at her home. Great memories brought back.
Glad to hear that Sati 🤩 thanks
All my troubles are vanishing with the dust while sand blasting... very professional work. Thank you for the video
BadRule,glad you liked it 👍🏻🍻
I worked in a museum and in a second hand shop. I won't talk about the "restoration" which happens in museums, because it is a crime... but when it comes to antiques, or even old things, I understand "restoration" to mean adding value. I don't just mean that something which has been properly restored can be sold for more; everything has a story and a careful and loving restoration adds to that story.
I had this bank! They must have manufactured it again in the 90s when I got it!
True 👍🏻
Just superb, a real tour-de-force, exceptional in every detail of the restoration. Love the video touches and animation.
Glad you liked it my friend. Thank you very much 👍🏻🍻
Beautiful coin Bank.👍😎
Thank you very much Robert 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😎
Two thumbs up for the trick to remove the screw!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻thanks
That's a wonderful job you've done there. I brought it back from the dead 👍😁
And glad you liked it 😊

Es difícil de creer que haya salido tan bien. ¡Gran trabajo!👍
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 thanks Darck
Seeing these type of Masterpiece, just Comfort for Eye
🤗🤗
Oh my god! My grandpa had this exact metal bank when I was a kid. I always loved it and have always wondered what happened to it. I recently acquired one that works similarly only instead of a dog jumping and dropping the coin from its mouth, it’s a dentist yanking out a tooth with the coin falling out of his pocket
Ah nice , I saw that one with the dentist , it is a nice coin bank too 😎 keep it safe 👌😁👍
@@CoolAgainRestoration will do
From something so sad rusty looking to an item looking fabulous. Love the videos.
