In this video I restore an old and rusty bayonet from the first world war. I found this rusty bayonet on Etsy app and I decided to do a restoration for you guys. After the package has come to me,I saw the wood handle and I certainly couldn't keep the wood;my second decision was to do a new and cool handle with epoxy resin - so I started to work to a new restoration project.
The bayonet had engraved : WEYERSBERG KIRSCHBAUM & CIE SOLINGEN,so is a german bayonet.
Maybe some will hate me because I used epoxy resin for a bayonet that has a history behind, but certainly this bayonet will no longer be used, and for a piece of furniture I find the use of epoxy resin in handle, very cool.
I hope I made a successful restoration video and will be to your liking.
It's the second time I work with epoxy resin and I think this work is part of art, so don't be mean in comments.

I would have kept the blade untouched personally...after removing the rust. And used wood for handle. 🤔 It beautiful though.
That's why you have 1 subscriber while he has like 250,000!!!
@@godzilla362 True.
I agree. The end result looks less like a bayonet and more like a switch blade haha
@@godzilla362 it's not a question of subscriber count, It's about preserving an historical item. Also, since when subscribers and likes count on someone's opinion? We should all agree with Pewdiepie since he has alot of subscribers?
@@godzilla362 if we follow that logic. We can say that Adolf Hitler had a lot of likes and followers so that made him right.....
I would carry that bayonet during a zombie apocalypse, for sure!
I would rather prefer a wooden handle, but as You wrote: Won't be use as a weapon but as a forniture/decor piece... ...it suits the purpose this new one. Keep Up the good work!!! May the Good Lord bless you always!!! 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks Victor 🤗 stay safe
I always love this kind of videos. They are so satisfying to watch

I actually appreciate that you took a risk and showed other medium (epoxy resin) instead of replacing it with another wood handle. It looks really cool.
Glad you liked it Jane and thank you very much 😇🙈
I love how it all turned out, though I do recommend getting a hold of some good wood for the handle. The epoxy looks great, but it can’t beat the feel or look of the wood.
You’re right but this was my intention when I decided to do this restoration. I thought some people doesn’t like it but..🤷🏼♂️
Epoxy doesn't look bad, but I would have preferred wood also. I do not like it so much when he uses plastic, I prefer wood and metal beacuse they are long lasting and environmental friendly.
@@javicorfu Although he can easily remove them and make wooden handles.
the epoxy looked way better, wood is a shitty and prone to damage material, embrace the future
@@gaiamission7200 Gaia be like " THE FUTURE IS NOW, OLD MAN!"
The flattened knife point shows this was used ALOT
i wonder how it was used
😅😅
I thought the same... How many were killed with this in the trenches??
@@Cristinact Perhaps only 12000 corned beef cans ...
I love that you chose to add red to the resin
I was going to fault you for not using real wood but the your end product is phenomenal. Well done (and moisture resistant).
Thank you very much for appreciation D 👍🏻🍀
He can stab a bitch without worrying about the handle!
I love that most of your restoration is done manually without the use of 100 different machinery. I also like the fact that you leave some marks to show the history of the item. I looked at your early videos and you are improving the camera angle, editing and everything you do. Subscribed.
Hey! I’m glad that you like what I do and see all my work. Thank you very much Sir 🙏🏻👍🏻🍀
You do incredible restoration work. Witness your loving gorgeous painstaking cleaning and restoring of the blade. You asked for an opinion about the handle so here's my take: this is listed as a WWI bayonet. The name on the blade, the design-all of the metal speaks to an age of around one hundred years ago or more. So, with this incredibly beautiful antique metal blade, my sense is that I would want to preserve it's antiquity and historical look with an actual wooden handle. The artificial material, while nice for many types of furniture, etc. is to me a jarring introduction of the modern into something that is actually old. But, still, the red coloration looks a little like deep reddish tinted burl wood. Ultimately you are a master at what you do and I always look forward to your new videos!
Thank you very much for your support P F 👍🏻 I really appreciate
I’m 63 years old and seems like I learn something from each of your videos. Thank you sir.
Glad to hear that Chuck . I really appreciate your support 😊👍🏻take care

Beautiful work
I absolutely love the new handles
Glad to hear that Janice
Fantastic restoration! As someone who knows how tiring it is doing lots of sanding I can really appreciate the amount of work you put into this. Lol! Great trick with the wooden dowel for sanding those curved surfaces btw.
Thank you Daverage. I appreciate it 👍🏻🍀

Great job on the knife and thank you for not making the handle look like gold
The result is very nice, especially because of the excellent work on the handle. Bravo!
Thanks and glad you like it 😊
Simply beautiful!
I like the new handle. I was not sure if red would look good, but it does.
The epoxy looks absolutely wicked!
Ohhhh. I have a thing foe edged weapons. Love this
Wow my friend I'm very impressed nothing satisfies me more than seeing a piece of military history restored back to its former glory I love that you made the blade look brand-new and preserve the markings and I love the red handle you made it look near brand new now he needs a metal case for it
Thank you very much tristan 👍🏻🍀😊

When I first saw the title about epoxy handles, I wasn't so sure, but it turned it so much better than expected. Great job.
Thank you very much Curt 👍🏻

Thanks a lot 😊
Gorgeous bayonet. I love the handles.
I was skeptical at first when you added the red coloring to the resin, but I actually really like how the handle turned out.
Thank you,I like too how he turned out
So do I
🙏🏻 many thanks
you have become my new favorite channel, I love the care you take into restoring those beautiful pieces. look forward to more.
Thank you very much Erin 👍🏻👍🏻😊
my only issue is the resin handle, i would have rather it be wood but understand why you chose the resin over wood as it’s visual and a conversation piece so it looks older in a way that you can’t get with new wood: completely understandable and done for the right reasons. it’s visual art, it’s as close as you can get to original condition without a time machine so nicely done!
Thank you very much 😎
Typically don't like epoxy resin handles but yours actually feels faithful to the original. Great work!
Thank you Chris 👍🏻
Oh my good golly. You made this old bayonet look beautiful again.
Thanks Michael 👍🏻
I love the new handle on that gorgeous bayonet. Awesome job 👍
I love these videos. I have a terrible attention span these days so I pretty much always do something else while I watch KZhead videos. These are definitely the exception.
Thank you Liam 👌🍀
Nice work, I like the way you made your own grips, and of course, they can be exchanged for wooden grips at a later date.
Ohhh i'm so into this channel!!! Loving so much your work! Thanks for sharing, saludos desde Argentina!
Ooo Argentina 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😊
Absolutely beautiful
A beautiful result!
Big fan of handle. Darker the better brings out the shine in the metal.
Thanks Chris 👍🏻
While you did a good job on it, this piece deserves to be restored as it was originally, with wood handles
Yes, I was looking forward to that, with the sideways cuts in them.
the new handle was beautiful. I won lie, I would have preferred a wooden handle like the original had, but I might make a knife with an epoxy handle like that myself one day.
Glad you liked it Patrick 👍🏻😎
Cool and elegant project
What a superb job. I love the handle. Thanks for showing us this restoration
Thank you for watching john 👍🏻🍀😁

I love the new handle. Very cool.
Thank you very much Monique 😎
GF1, awesome restoration.👍👍👍👍👍😁😁😁😁😁😎
i like the new handle
And thanks for that 😊
Very nice! I would have preferred to see a new wood handle but the epoxy handle looked far from bad. Something to note is that this bayonet intended to be used in a stabbing motion instead of a slashing motion like you did with the watermelon, so oftentimes the bottom side was left fairly blunt.
Handle scales are awesome
Glad you like Miguel 👍🏻
This is the most beautiful bayonet I’ve ever seen, this beats all the ones I’ve wanted to buy lmao, the handles are extremely elegant
Glad you liked it buddy 👍🏻
Beautiful!

More excellent work, you're my favorite channel on KZhead. And the handles look fantastic, almost as good as wood!!
Thank you very much 👍🏻👍🏻
Ah so satisfying! I didn't know It was possible to colour epoxy! Look at this beauty
Yes,all colours. Tkx 👍🏻🍀
This restoration is truly amazing!!

You cannot be bested by anyone at restoration. Excellent video

I thought a wood handle would have been better but after seeing your work on the epoxy - you definitely were correct. Beautiful job.
Thanks Scott 😊
Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Glad you liked 👍🏻
Absolutely beautiful. Great job on that
Thanks Deborah 🤗🤗
aside from your skills in restoring things, you also got the skills for using that thing! amazing work!!
Thanks buddy 👍🏻👍🏻
Really cool project! For the record, bayonets are typically not sharp, they are usually dull because they are stabbing weapons. In any case, you did an amazing job and brought new life to an old bayonet in a really cool way! Keep making great content, I am having a great time watching your restoration projects!
Thank you very much and you are so kind to say that 😇 grazie
Мачете вышло изумительное! К нему ещё ножны красивые и будет полный комплект! 🤔☺️

Outstanding!
Wasn't sure when I read the title that the acrylic would fit in but I am loving it, looks fantastic, well done 😁
Thank you very much Dave 👍🏻🍀🍀
I commend the hard work and discipline you apply to the manual side of things. You could have easily used a machine one certain points but you clearly still insisted on using your hands! Well done and it’s a fine make

Thank you Nolly Polly 👍🏻🍀
wow was not expecting the new handle to be so beautiful
Glad you liked Vinicius 👍🏻👍🏻
i LOOOOOOVE the new handle bro!
Thanks buddy 😊👍
I liked how you did the handles. As someone who collects 98 bayonets (typically of the later ww2 period) a ww1 bayonet is hard to come by. The epoxy resin coloring was a nice touch. Unlike the bayonet restoration that I seen before, you made it where it still will mount on the rifle. I didnt care for the sharpening of the blade, as most were left unsharpened for maximum trauma. But it isnt me restoring it. It is up to the collector if they want to add this to the collection. And I do believe someone would add to theirs for the right price. Oh and that knob in the back does come off. All the s98 bayonets were made that way.
Very useful informations and thanks for appreciation 👍🏻🍀
I think i know what restoration video your talking about I watched it before this one but this video I enjoyed more and I like how it will still mount on a rifle still unlike the other one lol
I dont have another video with bayonet
