    • I couldn't agree more! The return of the boxy look to full-size SUVs is fantastic. It's like a nostalgic throwback to the classic designs that were not only iconic but also practical. It allows for more interior space, making the SUV versatile and capable of carrying both passengers and cargo with ease.

  • I think this is the new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, smaller and cheaper than the full size LC. The Prado wasn't available in the US as Toyota, but is the same Lexus GX series platform, the Prado/GX also shared a lot with the 4Runners. I'm really happy to finally see this model available in the US 😃

    @GeorgeIPA-to2pp@GeorgeIPA-to2pp9 ай бұрын
    • It’s indeed the Prado. On market where the J300 “normal” Land Cruiser available, it’ll be sold using the Prado badge alongside the J300 (and, on some market, the facelifted J70). Toyota also said that they intended to make this smaller J250 as the flagship Land Cruiser (instead of the full-sized J300). Also, 4Runner is not just “share a lot” with the Prado/GX, but *it is* the Prado. 4Runner (except for the earlier, Hilux-based ones) is just the Prado for North America (LHD) market.

      @marcamigable1804@marcamigable18049 ай бұрын
    • @@marcamigable18045 million? Nah, this ain't a Lexus, pal. If the hybrid arrives in the Philippines, the price would be cut in half. Remember, there's a law that cuts any Hybrid and/or EV's prices in half or a quarter, and you're going to be exempted from number coding in Metro Manila.

      @xraider927@xraider9279 ай бұрын
    • @@xraider927 It ain't a Lexus but it is very similar to the Lexus GX. May I also ask what law are you referring to? As far as I know the discounts only refer to the tax placed upon hybrids and EVs (50% and 100% respectively) as well as multiple other exemptions and incentives. With that said, the current LC Prado and LC 300 cost at around 4.5-5.7 million pesos. The MSRP of the upcoming 2024 LC/LC Prado is at around 50-55 thousand US dollars which is at 2.7-3 million pesos. Based on the law, taxes placed on luxury vehicles with at least 2.1 million msrp is at 512k pesos plus 60% of the excess amount. Taking all into consideration, 2.7-3 million (msrp of the 2024 LC) + 512k pesos x 0.5= 256k pesos (since it's a hybrid and is exempt to 50% tax) + (2.7 million - 2.1 million x 60%) ÷ 2 or (3 million - 2.1 million x 60%) ÷ 2 would result to the final price to be roughly at 3 316 000/3.316 million pesos to 3 526 000/3.526 million pesos if released here on ph. So it would be around 1-1.2 million cheaper than the current LC Prado and 2-2.4 million cheaper than the current LC300. To sum it up: 2024 LC/LC Prado: 3.3 -3.5 million pesos Current LC Prado: 4.5 million pesos Current LC 300: 5.7 million pesos To conclude it seems that it won't really sell like hotcakes as what the original commenter stated but I do believe that it will definitely sell more and be more popular compared to the current LC Prado and LC 300. Ps. If I stated anything wrong please do correct me.

I really hope that there will be a few cars that are a bit simpler again in the future. I think the 90s and earliest 00s were the best car era for daily drivers: simple, reliable, comfortable but not too over engineered or packed with unnecessary beeps and “features” nobody needs.

    • We never got the Prado over here, it came as the Lexus GX. We only ever got limited numbers of the Big Dog Land Cruiser and only really in the highest trim levels over here. Closest Prado relative in the Toyota lineup would be the 4runner (which rocks). The bigger Land Cruisers here were like $80-$90 thousand new so most people shopping in that range usually just went for something German or a Range Rover... To me I always saw it as a way to spot someone with money and good taste. If this new one doesn't run like a watch with 300k miles on the clock then Toyota have failed the Land Cruiser name.

  • First of all I'm a huge Toyota fan and own 7 of them, 2 are Land Cruisers, a 1969 FJ55 wagon and a 1967 FJ40. This new Land Cruiser will obviously appeal to the new generation of buyers that don't know or care about the real heritage of what Land Cruiser is: Simplicity, ruggedness, off-road capability without electronic doodads, a manual transmission and a removable top. Us old school types that would be ecstatic over these things are left out here in North America. Toyota will sell some of these, but will still miss out on sales to Bronco and Jeep. Toyota has a waiting list on the 79 series Land Cruiser in Australia. A waiting list. It's a basic off-roader with manual trans, manual roll up windows, cloth and vinyl, etc. Those 2 Land Cruisers I mentioned at the beginning of this reply? Toyota had both of them in the lineup at the same time. Yes, a removable top short-wheelbase truck and a 4-door station wagon. Why can't we have both here in the U.S? Jeep does it.

    • @@wyomarine6341 No, "kids today" are fine with simple cars and want more of them. Source: I'm in my early 20s and drive a '66 Thunderbird, and know of several other young people who want cheap basic cars without computery nonsense. We don't want touch screens in cars, the automakers do. The automakers want screens in cars because they're cheaper than buttons and allow for some standardization across the range at the expense of safety (good luck using that screen without looking while driving) and intuitiveness. Furthermore, automakers pack new SUVs with this junk to justify raising the price and increasing profit margins because "look at all this new stuff it comes with!" even though the tech is basically the same. And that trick works on the general public that's dazzled by shiny tech and doesn't know a carburetor from a clutch plate. Meanwhile CAFE regulations have basically legislated actually small, cheap, efficient, simple cars - or basic off-roaders - out of existence, so "kids today" can't afford any new cars, we're stuck with old stuff if we have cars at all. Me, I fixed up my car myself when I was a teenager and couldn't replace it with a better car now for what it cost me to rebuild it. If Automakers could/would build actually decent affordable cars again, "kids today" would flock to dealerships and buy them by the boatload. But of course, they're not allowed to even if they wanted to, and by now they're addicted to those fat profit margins yo - gotta fund EV development somehow, right? Never mind that real sustainability is building things that last, that people actually want to take care of, and then taking care of them so they do in fact last... Where's the profit in that? Go ahead and eat our future for profit, we know you don't really care anyway. Toyota will sell millions of these I'm sure, it doesn't matter what we think of it.

    • I dont see the capability in their whole new fleet of vehicle's. For starters ground clearance dropped across all truck models. They going forward in tech but backwards in capability. Broncos and wranglers even stock base models eat toyotas joke of a fleet of "off-roaders" .
