  • Yes, these many benefits are encouraging, however I have ongoing concerns that much of the sugar in figs is fructose. Fructose is reported in the scientific literature to be problematic since while is does not raise blood sugar spikes and associated insulin spikes, it can adversely affect the liver function. However, there is recent information that around 30% of the sugar in ripe figs is the rare sugar allulose. Allulose has some scientific literature indicating that it is a GLP1 agonist, which can offset some of the averse effects of fructose content in the figs. This is encouraging, and may be important to fund more research about allulose. Since figs appear to be richer in allulose than most other fruits, it just might turn out to counter the fructose adequately. IMHO

    • You can get figs in supermarkets in Kampala and Nairobi. There is a similar fruit called kuyi in Bari/Kuku. It is a big tree with exactly similar look.
