Learn about the benefits of figs from a nutritional standpoint, also why they're sometimes referred to as a non-vegan type fruit. Also, details about "fig latex" and why is it better to consume ripe figs.
Ficus carica species or the "common fig" can be found fresh when in season or is frequently available as a dried variety and/or fig paste. There are lots of fig trees growing wild in our home state of California, brought by the Spanish missionaries, and we enjoy their abundant harvests several times a year.

  • I discovered earlier in the year that my neighbor's tree that spills over the fence into our backyard, is actually a fig tree! When I discovered this, I eagerly would check up on whether it was starting to grow fruit. I was happy to see little green bulbs growing on it's branches in early summer. Now the time has come where the figs are ripe and I just tried my first fresh fig today! I figured the part of the tree on my side of the fence is fair game lol. The fruit would just wind up dropping in our yard anyway. It did last year before I knew what it was. This year, I'm not letting that fruit go to waste! The flavor and texture are unique, but sweet and satisfying. Thanks for teaching me about figs! It was exciting to learn and experience ^^

    • Have you ever lied even once, stolen anything, used God’s name in vain, looked with lust or worse sexual sins? Then you’re not a good person in God’s eyes and in terrible danger of the judgement of God which will send you to hell (a terrible place of pain and sadness FOREVER & EVER & EVER & EVER….). Remember God is the Holiest such that one small lie will induce his severe wrath. Good news is Jesus died on the cross so that you may receive forgiveness of AALL YOUR SINS (No matter how bad or how many). But you aren’t forgiven unless you REPENT OF YOUR SINS & BELIEVE IN JESUS AS YOUR GOD (repentance means turning from sin and doing your absolute best not to do it again, also ask Jesus to rid you of addictions that you’re struggling to shake away-James 4:7). God has blessed us with Great food to eat (kings in the past don’t eat like we do today), shelter, freedoms, fun, medicine, pets to enjoy their company, friends, nice music to listen to and many more things to enjoy. Yet we don’t give him thanks, Blaspheme his HOLY name etc God wants to give the free gift of eternal life (9999999999999999999999999… years of extreme happiness) but we need to humble ourselves and turn from our wicked ways Believe in Jesus (God wants to have a relationship with you-like a father and his children). Think about why you’re reading this message (Everything happens for a reason) Get saved today since tomorrow is not promised (not everyone lives to 80+); Enter God’s rest; God is taking desperate measures to reach you all because the time is short. Thanks for reading this message & let me know if you have any questions. kzhead.info/sun/q8qFfsd6nIqBl5E/bejne.html

  • I came looking for the difference between "Smyrna" and "Calimyrna" figs. We used to see "Calimyrna" at Costco, and now they only have the "Smyrna". The nutritional info on the back of the Calimyrna seemed to show more nutritional value (more of a particular vitamin and mineral, can't remember which one just now - but ones that were the main reason to consume them) than the Smyrna ones available there now... Don't know if I should try to find Calimyrna ones instead or just buy the Smyrna ones. Thanks for the information. Interesting video.

The riped fig from my tree is yellow, and stale because I thought it was premature ripen by Phoenix heat, but inside is red, and very sweet when I tried one. I wonder what kind I accidentally got? is it dangerous when eating unripe fig? Thanks.

    • You might Google “fig varieties with closed eye” for your answer. But you can also protect your figs by putting organza bags over each fig as it starts to ripen. (Takes maybe five seconds to slip over the fig and pull tight.) The bags protect them fairly well from both ants and birds. Unfortunately, rodents eat right through the bags….but pieces of fig work well as bait in rat, mouse, or live traps if necessary!
