Not when it’s damp! - Another Range Rover MoT Fail! - Edd China Workshop Diaries Ep 61b

So not John’s Rusty Range Rover but my own L322 Range Rover drag-wagon. 4.4litre V8 comfortable heated seats, and some sensible cup holders, the perfect vehicle for towing new projects to the workshop from all over the country… …except it needs an MoT BEFORE we can pick up John’s latest, possibly very foolish, purchase of the ‘cheapest Ferrari in Europe’. The Range Rover clearly has an instant fail of a blown headlight and a really odd (but apparently typical) problem with its starter motor, particularly when it’s damp!
With help from eBay Assured Fit, I try to fix a number of issues with the L322 in readiness for its MoT but will a brand-new starter solve the damp start problem?...
Head over to @eBayUKofficial and checkout eBay Assured Fit by clicking on this link: ebay.us/YNQyYG

  • Edd, We're all here to support you. We know you don't owe us any explanations. Yes, a simple "having some trouble, thank you for your patience and understanding" would be enough. I think most of us would be happy to just watch you answer viewer questions for 10-15 minutes every week, or see you take apart an old engine. Sending you best wishes and a speedy recovery from whatever life has thrown at you.

    • Thank you, the AskEdd’s seemed to get fast forwarded through so we figured we’d give them a rest from the episodes but I take your point, something is better than a lot of nothing. Good news is we have a number of new episodes already filmed and nearly edited so do stick with the channel. Thanks for your thoughts…

    • 1) With respect. Please speak for yourself. I am not here to 'support him'. He is not my brother. Or my best bud. I am here to be entertained. Period. 2) Anyone who handed over money to financially support this channel - directly or indirectly - IS owed some explanation, imo. But I didn't...so he owes squat to me in this regard. The rest I agree with and think was well said (or typed). ☮

  • I had the V8 4.4 L322 for a number of years and changing the battery used to trigger a bunch of fault codes that required resetting the power windows and, from memory, the steering range too. When I replaced the battery the second time I kept the car electronics alive with a supply mode charger to avoid this.

    • @@harleylehmann1050 Not Edd, just saying so you get an answer. He made it private, effectively killing it. It was a bad decision on his (team's) part, it's been resolved, and that quickly enough. Apologies for this really is not required. And what good would it do anyway? Either people can understand it and move along, or they cannot. If an apology is required for your continued viewing, well, he'll do just fine I suspect without your one view. It is not like he did a truly disgusting/hideous/horrendous thing, he just made an (ill advised as it turned out) ad video. Nobody is required to watch it, nobody is bound to use the product(s) (to which I've already forgotten what it was about, so there's that), and in the grand scheme of things that require an apology? This isn't one on my list. He is trying to survive in this world, and this is the very least of the transgressions one could do in trying to make some money. I've let him off (with a warning, I did say as much in my own comment there, that if it's just an ad and no workshop content video again, that's gonna have to be it I'm afraid), and frankly, I hope it's the last we even have any commentary/discussion about it. I know I won't be commenting past this about it. You have a good day.

  • Glad to see you back Edd. . Regarding the RR. I'd check the engine block to chassis earth straps. Easily overlooked and will cause all sorts of electrical gremlins as the current finds other pathways to complete the circuit. .. Few years back had a golf VR6. Occasionally it wouldn't start just click click like a flat battery.. Battery checked out ok. On closer inspection the main thick power cable to the starter terminal was corroded. Removed, cleaned up the surface corrosion and the terminal, Also did the same to the terminal on the alternator as well. greases up with some vaseline. Never had an issue after that. Started on the button. ... Its quie possible the earth straps might be corroded.... .. That starter didn't look to bad... Anyways Glad you have some videos in the bag. .. Are we going to get some disco lights and 90s techno music and dancing for the 1M subscriber celebration!! 😆

  • Boy, parts are really expensive in the UK. I stopped using eBay years ago, Amazon is much cheaper with free shipping.

  • Edd, I feel your pain. As much as I adored my '06 L322, it was starting to get a slew of little problems here and there, so I sold it two years ago. It still breaks my heart, when I think about it, but the cost of parts really started to add up, thanks to that RANGE ROVER badge, and it just didn't make monetary sense to keep it. I do miss it, especially that beautiful interior and that throaty Jag 4.0

    • @@eddchinaWith your skills, most definitely. For me, the straw that broke the camel's back was when my A/C went south. The cost to repair would have been $5000.
