About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK and Escape to rural France to restore this beautiful building to its former glory.

Having all white lamp posts is the way to go. The only "gold" you need is from the lights, when they're on! You can't go wrong with classic white!
the gold would be too much. plain white is best.
Thanks Laurent 🥰
What ever you choose your good taste will prevail xxxxx I have faith xxx❤
Hope you have sun screen on 😂
Agree. Please , no gold on them. Plant some wonderfull flowers around the bottom for contrast instead.
I think I like them pure white. So clean and inviting like you said. Gold is best in the interior. But it’s your place. Looks fantastic.
Thank you 🥰
I'm sure the white posts will look great, but for me I wonder what black post would look like against the white stone walls! More dramatic. Kudos to all.
@magicmarker7047 Or even a gunmetal gray... White is going to show dirt pretty quickly and often!
I prefer those gates in black. It's well fitted for a Chateau. But it's your gates. 😊
I agree, black is a complimenting color!!
I think it looks fine without the gold
Thanks Isobel 🥰
🐮 Bessie... bless her heart, she always was the life of the party, clogging on the dance floor with a lampshade on her head. The last we saw her, she was dancing in the fountain. hmm 😬
😂😂😂😂👍
Your mother is a machine she is so hard working it’s unbelievable.
Just white on the lamps, gates & fencing. It will look beautiful 😊👍🏻
Thanks Ann 🥰🥰
They look amazing Tracey 😱
Looks great!
Is there a way to confirm from archives what they were originally?
The fencing will be amazing when it is white too. Tracy is Super Mom. I'm 58 and my back is aching just watching her work.
Ditto... I'm gonna be 58 this year... and I am aching all over just watching her work so hard.
My thoughts too!!
I'm wondering, her age???.. where does she get the energy!!😊
I’m 57, and I have been impressed with Tracy for years.
That must've been one heck of a party! A lampshade wearing cow falling into the fountain and couldn't get out?! 🥳🎉🐄
That's funny!! 😂
@@AtlantaGarden I have a warped sense of humor, glad you can appreciate it. 🙂😉
Terry, if you will get a gallon of liquid pool chlorine and put a cup to a gallon water in a garden sprayer then spray to areas you are pressure washing it will make the job so much easier and will kill algae and mildew. The pansy's you mentioned are cool weather flowers they won't survive the heat in those urns. You need lavender which loves dry heat. Looking great guys!!!
The gate posts look fantastic now they're clean. The classic white is fantastic Iist add. You keep going from strength to strength. ❤
I agree with white for the lamp posts! Oh ... like I have a vote! 😊
I am glad you are power washing the gate posts, and eventually the fence wall. IMO it is only mossy from neglect, not being aged. Bring her back to her prime. 😁
Your mother is absolutely incredible!
I really like all white.
Definitely all white, they look stunning as they are...
I’m looking forward to seeing the dormer on the tower painted and refreshed. I think the whole facade will look so much more elegant!
Thanks John 🥰
A big, long rented telehandler would be safest for that. I couldnt watch Terry up on such hugely tall scaffolding just to paint that. 😊
Tracy Wonder Woman ❤🤣👏👏👏👏For me White paint on its own. Put them in and look in all weathers and lights. You can always add gold later but taking it off is a longer process!
Thanks Susie 🥰🥰
the lamp posts are so pretty, hard to believe they were buried in the basement!!!
I know!! 🥰🥰
There were so many opinions about the gold on the lamp posts. After seeing the detail up close at the end of the video, I pretty much agree the gold might be too much.
Doing the rest of the railings will look wonderful
Your mom Tracy is my super hero! Love her and her passion and drive so much!!! 🤗
It would be amazing if the outdoor lights are painted in a soft black. Very classic and french which will frame the chateau and the entry gates beautifully. Amazing work!
I would put the posts in place... look at them during the day and night...and you will see if it needs a 'touch' of gold or they might be just perfect as is. I think since everything is white on gates, chateau..the gold might be out of place. I would add more colour thru flowering bushes.
Thanks Hilda 🥰
I saw lamp posts done in a Metallic brown paint which had a gold hue in the paint and they looked great. On another note, (just a suggestion) is maybe treat your hardworking mum to a salon for a colour and cut... to be pampered. Make her a Queen at the Chateau for a day. Keep up the good work.
Love the picture of the gates open and Patric standing there as greeter. Well done, as usual, can’t wait to see the lampposts in place. I vote for all white.
Thanks 👍
I like the lampposts as they are now, all white. They are clean, fresh, and classically beautiful.
Gosh I remember the first mowing / clean up of the lawn and you found the fountain foundation circle!! Lol. now look at you! So excited to see every day of your renovations inside and out. I can’t imagine what you can find when you dig.😳. Finally some warm weather to work outside. Keep lamp posts white imo. Just look at this grand dame being loved and brought back into beauty. I can hear her sigh of thanks .
I like them white. Simple and classic. 😊
I think you are absolutely right on making the light posts white. It looks excellent with your white window frames, White gate and iron work. It pulls it all together and makes a cohesive entry. The pillars look so nice and clean. The petunias planted on top in the planters will be beautiful. I can't wait to see the fountain when it's complete. Well done! 😀
Thanks so much! 🥰
I think, just the pure white is perfect! Absolutely beautiful job as always!!!
I have enjoyed watching the transformation the Chateau for a few years now. I do wish Terry would wear safety glasses when using power tools to clean off the paint! and some sun screen in that warm sunshine! Safety first.
Thanks for watching! 🥰
White paint on the light standards will look super, and begin keeping with the rest of the trims around the chateau. They will look stunning when completed, and I can only imagine how inviting they will be once lit up at night👏🏻🤗
Thanks Britta 🥰
You guys give so much attention to detail. I can't wait to see the next thing you do.
They look beautiful just white
Plain white. Agree that when the lights are on they will give a golden effect.
Do any of the locals stop by to thank you for saving a piece of history in their town? It truly is remarkable. Do you work everyday on the château? Hopefully everyone takes a break to refresh the mind and body.
I really can't put in words of excitement I have. Following from the beginning; and to see what you've all have been able to achieve in such a short time is amazing! Terry Tracy and Ash you energy and determination are such an inspiration. Love you guy's ! ❤
I actually much prefer the chateau without the shutters on. So much more elegant.
I like the basic white, just like the rest of the homes outdoors trims, gates, doors exc…. It is becoming a beautiful home
They are beautiful; you really had to go white paint to keep with the rest of the chateau 🎉
Thanks Carol 🥰
❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤ I love the out side videos Everything is looking so beautiful 😍 I'm so happy watching you Busy bees 🐝
White of course is the perfect color. What do people want-hot pink? Clean and repaired old things have charm. Now the gate posts go with the nice white gates. Wait until the glass canopies over the entrances are restored. That will be a sight to see.
Hi guys, wow the lights look fantastic! I love them white but I agree with you Terry, a little bit of gold will look fabulous and so in keeping with the beautiful Chateau, Tracy you are a super woman! I think you’re amazing, I would love some of your stamina, I’m in awe of you! I love your channel so much and all of you! Xxxxxxxxxxxx😘❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
and, since the 3 of us have been sick/hurting/under the weather, we need to have virtual cocktails next Sunday!! Tracy dear, please join!!
So is the next job prepping and painting the lovely circular metal railings 😳 will that be paula’s job 😊
White is classic. Beautiful
Put an extra pair of wires in it Terry, for the Christmas decorations.
Go with what you love…you’re doing all the work and ultimately it’s your decision because the lovely chateau belongs to you my dears❤
I’m remembering y’all putting on the stinky solution and smiling! I like this change
I like them white. Perhaps keep the esthetics outside more on the neutral tones like the typical chateau and castle they’re more stone and earth tones. 😊
I knew you couldn't have those lampposts without some gold. It will be stunning whatever Terry choses.
Terry! I’d do pineapples in the two planters on top of the pillar just so you don’t have to maintain plants. Nothing worse that half alive plants…
Just a thought for the planters on the pillars. If you had 4 plastic pots that fit inside the urns you could plant them out and put 1 in each of the urns and have 2 growing in a protected area so they could be swapped out when the urns plants look a little tired. I do this for my two planters on the front verandah. 🇦🇺
Jean from Suffolk. I think it’s a horse jaw not a cow by the shape 😮
Thanks Jean 🥰🥰
I like the way they are now the gray looks so vintage and aged. They are gorgeous pieces yall have such a good eye and blessed to find such awesome treasures!!!
Thank you so much! ☺️
I like the idea of the gold bands on the lamps but perhaps not the leaf branches. Perhaps as others have said, put the lights in place, then add the gold afterwards so you can get a true picture of the lamps lit. But I do think the gold would add some sparkle.
Your mom is just an exception treasure!!
A great days work. The gate pillars look fantastic and new lights with a touch of gold will be beautiful ❤️
Where's Grandma? She has more fence to paint! She did a fabulous job on the gates. Hopefully she is well. Everything is looking great. I would be interested in a long distance shot to see the symmetry of it all. Can"t wait! 😊😊😊
It appeared from the footage of the fountain that they were capped with finished stones at one time. Do you have a plan for the top of the walls surrounding the fountains? Tracy, your reaction to the jawbone was hilarious. You might work like a man, but you are definitely a girl at heart. You're a treasure beyond words.❤❤❤ I think that gilding the concave parts of the acanthus and leaving the convex parts white or vice versa would be lovely. There's also a horizontal band that holds the leaves together around the post that would look nice in gold. A simple ring of gold around the top of each arm would add a glint to tie it all together. However you choose to do it will be spectacular. I can't wait to see them up and running. ❤ from TX!
For the Fountains. They are really big. I think maybe have the actual fountains in the center but smaller base, then have planting beds around them. That way they don't use so much water. If any of the makes any sense. You'll also have contained beds at the front.
Thank you 🥰🥰
I love when you bring these old pieces like the lampposts back to life. I like them white as well as its symmetrical with everything else you've done so far. The front of the chateau is coming together.👏💡 I hope Terry doesn't have a cold.
Your lamp posts would beautimous in a Bronze or Verdigris patina. ❤️🙏
Wow, the jet washing really brought the pillars to life! Amazing!
The pillars look great, cleaning and restoring everything is making everything look cared for and not neglected. It’s all looking lovely.
I like the idea of adding gold. You have a chateau after all, might as well go all-in!
I like the white with future gold accents. The pillars look so fresh with the clean chateau in the background...😁😁😁
As far as the gold... is the price worth the prize. No one is going to be close enough to even see the gold! Some places you need to edit, edit, edit.
Red Geraniums would be gorgeous. Love what you are doing with the lights and preparing for fountains. I never miss an episode. Much love to you all. Get on the sunscreen next time ❤
You all got sunburned today. Great job!
Dear Terry you and your team do what you love, we are just arm chair quarterbacks, our opinion is useless. You have excellent taste and you are putting in the manpower. We are amazed at your amazing progress.
The gate posts turned out great! Really makes a difference!
I think the lampposts should be white. All so clean and stunningly beautiful ❤️
You are sooo resourceful and ambitious. Great result, as always!
The white is very pretty for the lights and lamp posts. It shows off all the detail and, like you said Terry, it’s consistent with the look of the chateau. You’ve always got great vision!
I am intrigued by the raw metal.
Your mum is an a amazing 😊woman. She is so strong, bless her, and capable of doing all sorts of jobs. Love watching your vlogs . Best wishes to all the family.
The meral gates and railings are like a glowing smile on the face of the chateau that can be sean from the road and villagers every day!the lights an invitation to enter and the towering three metre fountains sound and sparkle. You are unusual to be doing so much outside work as restoration inside continues.Great skills developed between yourselves.
The gates look so beautiful painted white. You are doing a great job.
Thank you so much! 🥰
If you decide to add gold, I think just gold on the two bands of the posts and the two bands on the center post of the lamps would be enough of an accent.
You are right about the white as the rest of the chateau is do elegant and refined. Wonderful job!
spray them clear as is. they are beautiful as is.
Thank you 🥰
I wouldn't put gold on it I think it would be too much on the exterior.
The lamps look beautiful; they do not really need gold. They shine in their own right.
Just white lamps, no gold embellishment necessary. The chateau is looking so beautiful and refined, doesnt need everyhing gold to make it special:)) Beautiful flowers and the eventual fountain will provide all the 'bling' you need IMO
I think the lamps, fountains and fencing white would really accent the chateau
It's all coming along wonderfully! Best to leave the lamps pure white, I think. And I might as well mention that (in my humble opinion) the stair railings along the front steps would look better in pure white as well, without those gold paint accents.
White is the way to go Terry you got a super mom always smiling laughing and working It's going to look absolutely magnificent Take care be kind Johann South Africa ❤❤😊😊❤❤
Looks lovely and fresh. If you're not going to put gold accents on the gates, I wouldn't put gold on the lamp posts.
Lantana for sure in your pillar pots they love hot sunny locations and bloom all summer long into fall. Lantana goes well with geraniums too.
Personally i wouldn't have those planters up there at the gateway. Too hard to maintain. Perhaps they could be better put near the steps. An option could be statuettes, pineapples, whatever you can find that is the size to suit and works in with your ideas. Only a power wash now and then, much easier. You have plenty of flowers that will be a joy to behold. The lamp posts are beginning to look lovely. Best wishes.
No gold would be my vote. I think simplicity is best because you have all the greenery and flowers and fountains to draw the eye.
Beautiful pieces, I think the gold is a marvelous idea!
Really great work on the pillars!! Tracy is a hardworking Wonder Woman !! Thanks for taking us on your journey- unbelievable vision and breathtaking elegance❤❤❤❤from Texas
Thanks so much! 🥰🥰
Gate looks beautiful ,,next is the fencing and the stone below,That will be a lot of work but it will be worth it
Thank you 🙏😊
Lamp posts do centre in gold and lights the 3 bands and under the cups and stems. I agree to clean the 100 year old grime and muck of everything. In another 20 years, it will look aged again, lol 😅 I hope after bleach, Terry, you hosed off hydrangeas... 😮
The gates look stunning ❤❤❤
Thanks Jane 🥰
The tenacity of this remarkable effort
I think the lamp posts are gorgeous the color they are WITHOUT painting them.
For the sunburned just take a couple of aspirine before going to bed. Put some aloe vera too. Next day your going to be good as new. Im from the Caribbean Island of Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is known as the enchanted island with beautiful beaches and 365 days of sunshine 😊. Many blessings to you and your beautiful family 😊
You could paint the fleur de lis on the tips of the gate in gold.
A cow with a lampshade! That must have been some party!🤣🤣🤣
Almost thought there’d be ONE episode when Tracy was not digging!! Lol. I vote white!
