That was epic, but so was the spy episode where Castle suddenly knew how to speak Chinese. I was so disappointed when they hired the Firefly actors to be on Castle and didn’t capitalize on their history.

There will never be a TV show cancellation that comes close to generating the level of anger in me that this one still does to this day.
Yeah, the exec who did it has acknowledge that cancelling Firefly is going to be her legacy.
For many of us it isn't anger. It is sadness at the loss.

@@CosmoShidan I could never stand watching Farscape. While Star Trek decided to show aliens with ears and foreheads, at least they made it believable. Farscape decided to go with wild hair and flamboyant hair colors for their aliens. Firefly got rid of aliens and just made everyone human on different planets so no alien races needed. Dune also had only humans so the idea wasn't unheard of.
@@emrek99205 Yes, wild hair colors- not skin colors, tentacles, four armed bugs, a frog in a levitating chair, dino-heads, etc- wild hair is what you noticed. Dude, did you watch Farscape? Though I would give Firefly the edge in quality, I think both shows can appeal. (And if it doesn't for you, cool- but a legit reason to dislike would work better. I mean, its like people complaining about Game of Thrones because the main characters aren't costumed in muddy attire- since there's a war (and most aren't nobility, apparently...), (heard that one before))
5:12 "And you know what? It works!" Yepperino! Especially for the time, it was everything sci-fi space adventures weren't. It had one heck of a cast that really worked well together. It had all manner of weird depth to its background and setting that they stayed true to that should never have worked, but instead gave it a unique charm. It was somehow both everything wrong and everything right and it was *shiny* !

I absolutely fell for the communal dining table scenes. That sold the one big happy but slightly troubled family idea, and the actors looked like they were honestly having a good time.

As much as the lingo is mocked in here, it's one the things that young me really loved about this show. It really lent to the feeling that it was set in a different place/time/universe.
The annoying firefly fans acting like "Shiny" didn't exist as slang before Firefly poisoned me against watching the show for like a decade :D which is ironic because I've loved space cowboy stuff since my childhood with the cartoon BraveStarr, and sci-fi with cowboy type characters like Star Wars and so on.
Shiny! Easy to see how speech could morph a bit over time to sound fairly different
Yeah remember when that band made that song "shiny happy people" that was awesome and shiny.
Co Charles I hated that song so much. It was so non shiny and non happy that it absorbed light like a black hole. And the band was REM.

Yeah this is honestly the main glaring problem with the show. Idk why Joss was pressed to have a bunch of Chinese iconography and language without any actual Chinese characters.

Its hard to find good asian actors when most asian parents make their kid study medicine. Hell. One of the funniest asian american comedians is a doctor.

Fully agree with Sheldon Cooper for having the president of Fox at the top of his arch-enemies list for cancelling Firefly.
Many years ago I read a story (cough, fanfiction) about how Loki from MCU blew up Fox HQ because he was pissed Firefly was prematurely cancelled. I confess there have been some very dark days when I wished that actually happened in real life.
Or when Leonard's talking about when he met Sheldon, and Shrldon adds the watching of Firefly to the Roommate Agreement because it will be on for years. 😉😷

This show is one of the reasons why I would absolutely Rick into an alternative universe where Firefly has not been cancelled in order to bring back the full shows 6 seasons and make the world a better place.
Just go over there, quietly purchase the complete DVD set (or three), come back, and enjoy.

Why does everyone always hate on season 7-12? Okay, they weren't the *best* of the series, but they were better than 80% of what else was on at the time, and seasons13-27 were gorram amazing.

Firefly was a precious gem of a show. I'm glad they at least gave us a movie for some closure.
Word. Having it end with all those questions unresolved just hurt, and even better: the movie managed to live up to the show. Weirdly enough: I was so heart-broken over some of deaths, but still, the whole crew/family going up against such odds and not losing a single one of them would have felt like disneyfying the show..
I can't believe it's coming up on twenty years since this show came out and I still think about it almost every gorram day!

I came across this series by a lucky coincidence. I binge watched all of it in no time. Its truly a great show with a lot of heart. I like to imagine that there is a paralell universe where Firefly is still running. 😂

Instead of Netflix giving us the live action Avatar remake that literally no one asked for, could we get new Firefly on Netflix? Even if it's with different characters in the same world... I just want to hear someone say "shiny."

I don't Netflix can because Fox legally owns the show, so Fox could sue Netflix if they try and remake it Nathan Fillon was on the darkest timeline podcast with Ken Jeong and Joel Mchale and spoke about it there
I'd be down for Firefly: The Next Generation. Nathan Fillion could be the old wise preacher with a past helping a young grew of criminals
I'm a big fan of Firefly and I totally agree that it had so much potential, but unfortunately it was canceled too soon. I still have hope that one day it will be brought back!

I'm one of those people that had *no* idea that firefly existed. I watched the movie 'Serenity'. Loved it, and then checked to see if a sequel would possibly be made which lead to me finding out that a tv show was made first and already cancelled =(.

Yeah my brother and i saw the trailer for serenity and begged our mom to take us to see it. Wound up renting it, loving it, then finding out it was a sequel to a series. Heart breaking but one of the many to things that my brother and i bond over, our discovery and loss of Firefly/serenity

Everyone knows the first three thing you learn in a foreign language is "hello", how to order a beer and then every swear word you can wrap your lips around.
Pretty badly pronounced... But perhaps that was deliberate? Nah.
I think "speaks Chinese" is pushing it on the quality of said "Chinese" spoken in Firefly...
And the cursing expressions are neither Chinese nor English, nobody understands what “The Explosive Diarrhea of an Elephant” means
