    • @@blackfyrestudios I’m not sure that the controversial SA scene(written again by Marti Nixon) was ever going to be necessary and non-exploitative. Just because Whedon isn’t a good person doesn’t mean that we should discredit him from any of the good material, especially given that Buffy was entirely his brainchild.

      @windowsVD@windowsVD6 ай бұрын
    • @@windowsVD thats very fair.. the SA was definitely too much but I dont dislike the addition of toxic relationships and people in television, it makes things seem more real sometimes Id defend it much harder without that scene though. We didnt need that.

    • Also, while we're on topic of Marti Noxon, we really shouldn't be giving her any praise if we're going to condemn Whedon for his actions, because according to James Marsters himself, Marti Noxon is an attempted r*p!st. I am not joking, just Google "Marti Noxon Seeing Red" and the information is all there. Noxon wrote the scene based on an altercation with her ex-boyfriend where SHE was the aggressor. Here's James Masters' quote during an interview: "One of the writers, a female writer [Marti Noxon], had a situation in her life where she and her boyfriend were breaking up and she decided if she just made love to him one more time, that they wouldn't break up. She ended up trying to force herself on him and decided to write about that. The thing is, if you flip it and make it a man forcing himself on a woman, I believe it becomes a whole different thing."

    • Buffy is undeniably great serialized TV. I would however like to say there is a world of TV out there which rivals it well. Depending on your preferences, there is an entire lifetime and world of great television to experience. And I cannot wait for you to discover more! My suggestion is to take best series lists from the genres you like from different countries (not just the US). Then watch the shows in order of oldest to newest. (Take into account the age and background of the person recommending it. If they were a teenager when it aired you might want to get a second opinion just to be safe). It is hard to find the spot between new excitement and nostalgia to land on actual perspective. My recommendation if you like science fiction would be Babylon 5.

A nearly unbroken track record of great episodes (arguably the only bad one is “Beer Bad”), and thematic elements still very very relevant to today. It’s a travesty it never won an Emmy. I also want to mention that, despite Joss Whedon’s icky reputation, the show was put together by many other non-icky creatives who also make it great, and those people went on to make other great things (Supernatural, Daredevil, etc.).
