I’m almost 60. When I was a little girl, I remember in south Florida, we had no black kids in our school until 5th grade. I had met some great kids that I still call friends and never thought of them as anything but friends. I actually thought that with all the strides we’ve advanced past racism and bigotry. However, it’s still all around us. It’s sad that she, as an educator would think to use those hurtful words. I could feel the slap in my face and my heart skipped a beat. It’s terrible. I believe it’s time she retires. She shouldn’t be left in the educational system feeling how she does. It’s nice the young graduate doesn’t harbor any bad feelings but one day, he’ll look back and think differently. He’s just stoked at having graduated and perhaps being brought right by loving parents who don’t see color.
