AJ+ wanted to explore the stereotype that the South is more racist than the North. So we hit the road in South Carolina and asked. Why now? The Charleston church shooting and the recent focus on the Confederate flag have reignited age-old debates about racism in the U.S., particularly in the South.

There is racism everywhere. In NZ when l was a child I saw how different ethnic groups were treated, lslanders, Chinese Indians Italians Greeks Poles etc All the derogatory names and the jokes. My mother was half Greek but my name is Jones so no-one knew and l kept it to my self. I thought that if they knew l would would be treated that way too. I moved to Australia where Racism was much worse. Working in an underground gold mine in 1974 my leading hand would tell me about his adventures hunting Aboriginals for sport. Bragging about killing people for fun. Later l worked with one of the Rhodesian rat runners who told me tales of being a captain in the army reserve spending his weekends fighting their war, all his soldiers were black the officers white And he a very religious man he liked all those "good boys". So long as they did what they were told. But the very worst racist l have met was a Maori. He hated everyone. His favourite tale was how when the Maori came to NZ they drove the original inhabitants out of NZ and the remnants escaped to the Chatham islands. When the Whiteman came to NZ the Maori hired a ship to take them to a meeting, but they hijacked the ship put the crew ashore filled it up with warriors and went to the Chatham islands to exterminate the last of the original inhabitants. But the hatred he had for Samoans Tongans Chinese everyone else was extreme racism. Racists of every type are the worst of all people.
Is the South racist? Answer : Yes !
@Getmadmaybe? Because they do not have a knowledge of self and of history. The history of that rag is plain and clear.

@@apersiannihilist5632 dosent justify racism
@@baller3035 why would I need to justify anything to anyone?! To be a racist is still a humane freedom and a freedom of speech Like you open a shop but you don’t want any muslims to work at the shop , I’m not talking about customers, of course everyone can get inside and get treated equally but you still have the right to choose your workers
@@apersiannihilist5632 no you don't. That's actually against the law to discriminate. Typical racist
Anyone from any culture and race can be racist. I'm an American of Mexican ethnicity. When I was 9 years old I got my first taste of racism. In 1964 I won 1st place in the library's reading contest where I had to write an essay on each book I read. I got my picture taken for the newspaper, but only of my back, they had me facing the librarian behind me, while the two White boys, who won second and third places, faced the camera. When I was managing an apartment building a Black couple came to my office mad as hell. They let me know that they knew I was Mexican and knew that once one Mexican moves in a whole lot of Mexicans follow. We are like roaches the lady told me. Since I was the manager I had to take that abuse. Of course, if someone would have said that to the nice Black couple, they would have screamed racism and sued. I know both White, Black and Mexicans who are racist against others. I've known people from all those groups who were racist and prejudiced against White, Blacks, Jews, Asians, Mexicans, Indians, Middle Eastern and anyone not included in this list. And I know those who deny racism are the ones who practice racism and prejudice against others. Because admitting racism means you acknowledge the issue, that it's unfair, abusive and one will need to change their own attitude against people they only know and judge superficially and not soul deep.
Only North Africans , Middle Easterners, Turkish racism and Islamophobia could be justified for some geopolitical reasons and because of their Islamic practices. No other racisms could be justified and all must be punished. But I find islamophobia and Arabphobia is justified due to their racism, misogynistic tendancies and homophobia. I don’t think you can wear hijab , eat halal meat and be American citizen at the same time.
racism is colonial, is ingrained in everything, you can be racist even to yourself
Nice lie
@@nicelol5241yes true lol
Racism is not the same thing as being prejudice....in order for someone to be racist, they would have to be linked as beneficiaries to the power and controlling class ie the system and laws passed due to ethnic and racial biases! Not everyone has the power to be racist. America's military, government, police, policies, science, medicine, FDA, residential redlining, media and social engineering etc are ALL forms of maintaining yt dominion over other ethnic groups in American society and culture ESPECIALLY people of African descent and the very bloodlines of blood the country and it's economic and military power structures were conveniently built upon so naaaah everyone cannot be racist from any ethnic group. That's just not true. It sounds good but, it's not true.
I don’t understand why someone would hate another person just because they are a different race and/or come from a different culture. Instead of fearing what’s different people should take the time to learn about one another. Humanity is so diverse and there is beauty in diversity
Amen
Because white people are the superior race lol.
agreed
I know right. I hate everyone equally.
I can understand someone disliking or criticising another culture, because not all cultures are peaceful or respectful of people. But what skin color someone was born in, is obviously dumb. Culture is a bigger factor in what kind of person you are. The inner city black subculture, is very flawed to say the least. But blacks who grow up in rural areas or suburbs might be a whole different kind of people. Color doesnt matter, but your beliefs & values that are partly formed by your culture does

Well, just know, if you truly want an answer that is, that there is a GIANT propaganda machine 🎥 📺 💥 🩸 at the highest level, run almost exclusively by the same ethnoreligious group that benefits by keeping us all fighting each other as they gain more and more control, and you will be labeled Racist if you simply call this out. Ballistic Badger lol now that trump deals with these issues it’s okay for them. Hypocrites
Ballistic Badger - No, I don't think so! I believe bigotry is a social issue and should be dealt with by the People. I think many people feel that it isn't something our gov't should be responsible for because it opens Pandora's box and could be giving the gov't far more power than we realize; big gov't = big problems! The President's only job is to defend our Constitution.
Thats what i was thinking too
@@Declan_Moriarty That's right Obama didn't do his job. He and his man wife were just interested in free vacation , trip gibs and the spot light.
Ballistic Badger No you're fine lol
I'm black and from the north and I was afraid to go down south because of so much propaganda I had heard down there like the kkk and other things. Although to my surprise the people down there were pretty nice... Everytime I would walk by anyone white or black they would always say hello and ask how am I... Up in the north I never get that anywhere. Pretty Ironic

You shouldn't be asking if the South is racist, you should be asking WHO in the South is racist. It depends on the beliefs of the person, good or bad. Personally, racism should not be tolerated in any context. Just my opinion, if you're gonna get all huffy-puffy about it, no need to answer.
“Africans want more Africans to come here” Never have I ever said that I want to bring more Africans here. What kinda tribal horse shit is that? I’ve never been to Africa, I’ve met very little African people. That makes no sense

@@truthnumb972 You don't have to live in those days to know what's happened. History told us. For the South to still be displaying Confederate Flags shows that there's still a connection with racism. The issue of black slavery was at the center of the American Civil War back then. Racism is still very deep rooted in America even till today!
That's a rebel flag (southern pride flag) not the confederate flag. The confederate flag has 3 strips (2 red 1 white) and 8 stars the formulate a circle for each state that fought for the south. Pick up a US history book and it'll tell you all about it.

@@emilio5779 ... Then, I guess the current US flag is a treason flag too.
"There are a lot of racism in the South" ➡️ ok "The South is racist" ➡️ this quote is actually racist. As a Belgian, I knew little things about the US civil war. I knew only what I saw at the tv, in documentaries and movies: Confederates were traitors, they triggered the civil war because they wanted to continue slavery, there were naughty, uneducated... Then, I opened books of history... Having a confederate flag is not racist if you do it because you love the South and are sick of Washington DC and Hollywood vicious hate against this cultural region. It's racist if you're a southern morron having this flag because he hates black people and wants to make them unconfortable. These southern morrons see the South and its history in the same way Hollywood and DC do. In France, we call this kind of people "useful morrons", that is to say, people who are too stupid to realize their behavior actually benefit to their ennemies.
Pay me no mind.I'm just a tourist passing through..🤣
There is racism everywhere. There is also no rasim everywhere. Racism is in the eye of the beholder.
If we had gotten along all these years instead of hating, just think how far ahead we would be today. By putting our minds together for a common cause, we might have beaten cancer, AIDS, Alzheimer and other things by now. But no. We have to hate instead. What a shame.
Indeed, it's very sad. I hope everyone can just get along, but I feel that as long as differences exist between people, there will be conflict.

I live in New Orleans Louisiana. I’m from Missouri. The question wether the south is racist, honestly Depends on who you ask. There are racist people everywhere.
Exactly what I was thinking
Sentient Tapeworm I’ve personally never seen anything that racist in New Orleans, but I do remember seeing some discrimination going on in Washington DC. Every region has some racism to it, but it’s better if anything in the South than it is in the North.
Thee Apollo it's everywhere misstreatment to people of color or the other way around, black people this white people this, spanish speaking this , asians this, nationality, etc, etc, don't matter how much the Internet try to Shut it down, like if they are different, All people take a Crap.
I guess there's racism everywhere but a high flux is in the south. I came from the Bay Area, California to Texas and I got a wake up call about racism. The Bay Area is the most progressive region in the country and you could, just could, possibly live out a life there without experiencing discrimination or racism. At least I didn't being a minority. Texas is a different story. The south is horrible, I'm going back to Cali one day where it all makes sense.
Timmy Turner Strange. I’m from Louisiana, yet I did see racism in Los Angelos when I went there. I guess there’s racism everywhere, you’ve just got to find out where it is?
