Finland's President Sauli Niinistö, who has a longstanding relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, joins CNN's Fareed Zakaria to discuss what he has learned about Putin over the years, and what is next for his war in Ukraine. #CNN #News

Most come to an interview with basically a rehearsed script of talking points written by their speechwriter, which is basically a list of talking points they want to promote, and really don't even listen to, or hear the question. Great leaders are usually reflections of societies they lead. They don't appear out of nowhere, as much as a number of level-headed people in those societies. You want great leaders, start with your own household and family. This is the most basic building block of every community. If it fails, your community is more likely to fail, then the society you live in, which in turn will produce failed leadership.

Germanic nationalism ends. Ukraine started the war when they allowed the Azov, a neo Nazi regiment , into their national military. Also, Germanic neo Nazi propoganda is being taught in European schools. I know this because I have to argue with the little Nazis. They identify as nazis and they believe Romans and Greeks were all blonde and they want to fight about it. So for Russia and it's allies , this war is about ending Nazism, because the Germanic Nazis always attack, just like the trump movement was a fascist germanic movement. There are consequences to your actions .
Wow As a Ukrainian, for no moment during this interview have I thought "that's not true" or "that's understandable, but still unpleasant" as I sometimes think and feel about the talks of some Western leaders. His answers are impressive as they should be and a good example to follow. Thank you.

Professional, down to earth and smart. Great and honest interview
Do you know what I like about this interview with Niinistö? The answer "I don't know". Rare honesty there. Which also means he will seek advice from people who ACTUALLY know the answers, without being proud and pretending he knows it all. I reacted to the same thing in an interview with neil degrasse tyson, he also readily admitted he doesn't know everything. I truly admire that in people.
Stay humble people!
I love the answer. Unfortunately in America, politics don’t allow the answer to be “I don’t know.” Too many Americans in my experience, make the assumption that the people in the leadership positions always have the answer otherwise why would they be there? This is clearly a logical fallacy. Nonetheless, that is how America generally operates. Sometimes the wisest person is not listened too due to lack of authority even though their arguments could be correct. 😢
In Finland it is tradition that the president elected resigns from all political party affiliations and thus becoming everyone’s president. Even though he ran as a member of Kokoomus (a more capitalist party in Finland) even people on the left side of political spectrum respect him very much here.

@@MWard-gd7pk Well, Finland was smart enough to not be dependent on oil or natural gas in the sense the rest of EU has been considering their history with Russia. I dont think they would have any issues holding it together.
There are no 'normal' men at your so named high places. The factors which impel men to seek leadership are rarely positive. I'm sure there's a genetic predisposition at work, but human societies are now too complex to allow the laws of the jungle, alpha males and females, to be instrumental in deciding who governs. Tribalism, in the guise of nationalism, has caused this aggression. A single, mentally disturbed, tyrant has been able to upset the balance of almost the entire world society with one inane decision. Alarmingly, the people of the USA allowed another mentally disturbed individual to govern them for four years. Thankfully the USA has a system of government which enables its mistakes to be remedied after a comparitively short time. The problem is that the people of Russia are denied this safety valve and we all must suffer because of that. Perhaps we can see now see that the best leaders are those who aren't self-important idiots like Putin and Trump. As for leaders who can keep their nerve, Zelensky is the man who has best kept his throughout this war and he was a comic actor. That says much to me.

Just for the record, as an American, i do not think of your people as being weak in any way and i have not heard of that from others. We respect and appreciate your strength!
I second that!

What a smart and genuie guy, not so many politicians like him.
What I love about Finland is that they won over Soviet Union during ww2 👍👏👏👏👏👏
Findland President. Thank you for sharing your words and time with the world.

He's a very intelligent, measured, honest and practical leader. We need more like him.
He seems to be generally also respected by a lot of people from different sides of the political spectrum over here, you don't get the usual American style Republicans vs. Democrats grumbling over here. My family didn't vote for him, he wasn't my first choice for president either, but I have a lot of respect for him seeing how he has represented our country. The job of the president here is more of a figurehead but it's an important one either way, and the way in which he has handled affairs is commendable.
He's vague and saying unsubstantiated insinuations that CNN viewers lap up. He lacks confidence as he knows he's lying, the only good thing is there is a seed of shame in him some where.
Im from finland and I can tell you he is corrupted liar and a sellout and traitor. Dont let a politician fool you
@Bubba's Broadside the history is re written about that. Im finnish and nazis controlled us To attack soviet union. You dont know what happened

Hyvä Presidenttimme= Sauli Niinistö. Olet hyväksi meidän maallemme, siitä kiitos myös.👋🕊🕊💕〰️〰️〰️🌺🍃
Wow, wish we had intelligent, pragmatic leaders like this!
As a Norwegian neighbor I really like and respect Finland and it's people. They usually do the logical things, they are kind but straight forward, and maybe most importantly in times like this; I sure as hell would not want to be in a fight with them. I think Russia has not forgot the winter war of 1939 and what happened then.
Not as logical as estonians though. Finns have been quite naive towards Russia for the past 30 years, only the invasion got them thinking.
the whole of Europe is now forced to pay for the Biden family and other politicians pay for their machinations in Ukraine, to pay for US military bases and for wars that NATO starts without a UN mandate, for coups that lead to millions of deaths, Hunter and Soros and Co. will not become impoverished and will not freeze.
@@rogerthat3157 I'd dare say it's due to the successful neutrality policy by longest serving President Urho Kekkonen who fostered good relations between both the West and the USSR; we managed to avoid major ire by the USSR for the entirety of the Cold War, so in some sense we may have gotten complacent, but not fully as anti-Russian sentiment has remained ingrained in many people's minds. And we maintained the system of obligatory military service all this time largely due to Russia being right behind our eastern border.
Thanks, but now i m very angry with the government when they did not join Estonia and did not stop russians from entering and are discussing only now about building the fence against ryssland. How long are they gonna stay neutral 🤬🤬🤬🤬
@@rogerthat3157 not naive, neutral
From America we respect Finland ✊🏾
Kiitos
Amen 🙏 to that 🙏
Well, we don't hold America in high regard anymore...
Who's "we"?

Yes! I agree!
GO FINLAND!!!
I respect Finland President's Answers. He's Simple, Factual, and devoid of unnecessary Sentiments in his Replies to Tough Questions. I have a lot of Respect for this President.
Finns are very direct it’s cultural. Love it!
Ye that is very much Finland :-)
I like his strength and faith in his countrymen.
That's a great point. Niinistö has a calm confidence in his people.
I envy people of Finland for having such a wise leader ,,God protect them .
Pray and Hope for world peace🙏🙏🙏🙏
The president of Finland is the kind of leader that many others from Europe should follow. A man who can say he is a man of peace and acknowledge that the world is complaining about not having any of « this » because of the war in Ukraine but firstly feel for the Ukrainians population, whose daily life fells the brunt of this war is a man of respect, thank you Sir, we need more Leaders like yourself.
Hello how are you doing❤
@@joebladwindecker4501 pretty good Joe thank you 👌
@@mitchydarne8734 Nice to hear can I get your email so we could talk and probably become friends? If you don’t mind?
I am British and respect finland very much. Putin cannot be trusted. He is a liar and a murderer. And he wont hesitate to kill his own people. Remember Staolin.
Tell that to Hungarians and Italians.
I really appreicate Sauli Niinistö calm and collected composture. Seems like a no bullshit kinda guy. Glad to see our Finnish cousins enjoy such leadership.
Our culture and values are deeply western. I'm glad of our coming NATO membership and to further deepen our relationship with the US. (But if we are real now - Finland and Sweden - we have been treading waters for a few decades but in reality we have always been with the US.)
No BS.. wot no 8 years of shellong murdering 16K civvies. BBC gotcha?
He Is Just a usa slave like everyone else and he dont want peace or Crimea would already be Russian..
@@toms5996 Now we see what short memory is. Finland has been under Sweden for centuries, Finnish population deprived of all rights and freedoms and only when being a Russian province Finns got a right to study Finnish in schools and use it as official language. But you forgot that, didn’t you? Now tell us about Western values and do a French kiss to Swedes.
The bottom line? The final chapter of Western Europe appears to be under way as self-inflicted COVID lockdown insanity - followed by “suicide sanctions” against Russia - have brought European industry, food and financial instruments to the brink of annihilation. The Europe we all once knew is about to be transformed into an economic wasteland worse than any post-World War II scenario you can think of, including the bombing of Dresden by allied forces
Fared is super. Good info! Thanks
It's strange to hear a politician actually answer the questions frankly these days
Here from Canada we need a leader like you
President Niinistö is a thoughtful and considered leader. Thankful for wisdom from Finland to strengthen our turbulent world.
