Also when I was in boy scouts we camped out at the place that some of the murders took place and pretty much all of our scout masters would say stuff like "you know the phantom killer was never caught" right before we went to sleep. As all of us grew up we would continue that tradition on the newer scouts for some scary campfire stories.

Several well known serial killers such as the Iceman have claimed to have committed crimes they couldn't have committed bc they're seeking attention. The Smiley Face Killer had 2 ppl confess to one of his crimes. Some ppl who have specific mental illnesses will confess to crimes they didn't commit too. Not even needing anyone to ask "Did you do this". They'll just walk into the police station and say "hey I did this murder".

    • What's the big deal? It was in Texas, was it not? The age in texas is 17. You're letting the age gap be a huge deal, just because it's illegal for adults to be with kids like that. What if a 20 year old was with a 35 year old? 17 year olds tend to be more mentally mature than say... a 10 year old. People have such a problem with who others are in a relationship with, these days. As long as they aren't children, be with whoever you want. No need to try and shame them for it.

    • @@Mooodyyhhh the 17 year olds I've seen and talked with are actually really mature, for the most part. I know people that live independently at 17 years of age. The brain doesn't even fully mature until 25 years of age. So by that logic, a 23 year old is a "baby". As I said, you're too used to what you've been surrounded by. The people that others want to be with really doesn't need to concern you or me, as long as it's consensual and they're of age legally.

      @billbertboyce324@billbertboyce3242 жыл бұрын

    • @@Mooodyyhhh that's purely down to personal opinion. You simply perceive it that way. Others disagree. Such as me and many others. The west isn't the world. And there are many 17 year olds on this planet. Maybe the ones in the US aren't mature. I've seen many fully grown adults in the US that are certainly not mature. But there are many 17 year olds around the world that develop maturity at younger ages. And they become more mature at 17 years of age. Nobody is _completely_ mature, but 17 year olds are certainly not like 15 year olds.

All were killed at Lover’s Lanes, which were often in secluded areas at night (usually about this time sexual activity occured, and they’re teenagers, so of course they would take it somewhere secluded) They were vulerable, making the best targets for serial killers at the time. Poor kids should have thought deeper into their choices. And fun fact, alot of the lover’s lanes had changed names or had their names removed due to that reason.

  • It's interesting to think that, being from Texarkana, that it was known as a "rowdy town" that was "full of violence" at the time. People act like it was the perfect southern place to live. Keep your doors unlocked kind of thing. Then the murders happened. I know it's crime ridden. Though, unsure if it has more crime than other cities of its size. Oh! And the Hotel Grim is still there but has been shut down for a LONG time. Rotting and falling apart, a place for teens to sneak into for unsafe shenanigans. Also, two movies based on this. They watch them every year in a place very close to one of the murders, which is now a park.

  • It is a lovely town. My family is from there. It sits directly on the border of Texas and Arkansas, and there's a post office on State Line Ave. I talked with my dad's mother about the phantom killer quite a few times. She was a child then. After the people were shot in their homes, she remembers putting blankets over all of their windows. I never did get to talk to my mom's mother about it; she would have been a young adult at the time and I don't know why I never asked.
