it's finally time to "finish" up building this 300hp N/A M52 project engine. Well first revision of it. This one probably wont be making that 300hp, which is the goal, but lets see how close we get.

This has been a long wait, finally!😁 Also, really good quality video!
Thanks! And yeah. This has been pretty long time in the making 😅
Thank you for the upload. Made my Sunday night!
"Let's stop the talk and just get working." [/chuckles] Literally, the only channel I couldn't care less if you kept on talking until your face was all blue. You're a wealth of information bro, and we hardly ever have to see your face. WIN,WIN! 8-○ Seriously tho, the production quality and your English have come a long way. Congrats. Some say it is one of the hardest to learn. Here's to seeing, and hearing, it out on the open road.
Great video. As i have asked these questions about cam timing
Finally! Thanks for the update
Very high quality video! Great work
Thanks!
I love your channel, and your content is amazing. I don't mean this following comment in a detrimental or disrespectful way, but one of the things I enjoyed the most was that it had no music and it wasn't in english. The english captions was spot on and I felt great getting to listen a beautiful language like finnish. Just a little honest feedback on the direction this channel has taken, I still love it and I am thankful for the quality content you turn out for us, so thankful that I appreciate the cultural diversity along with your vast tech knowledge, and I had started to recognize words and phrases in your native language. We still may need to communicate in english due to the huge difference in languages (I'm a native spanish speaker). Anyway, if going english was your desire, I enjoy the content too, but I think I speak for everybody when I say we're willing to go out of the usual comfort zone if you're more comfortable the way it was before.
Thanks, I appreciate honest feedback. The main reason for changing the language was, that it's was really limiting the amount of audience that these videos could have. There is big audience for stuff like this, but not many want to watch videos on weird language and english subs. But anyways, I hope that youtube will soon allow me to add audio tracks on multiple languages. Once that happens, I will do these in Finnish again. And then english dub. I'm pretty sure that you can't tell much difference between dubbed and direct recording. At least on this kind of videos that you can't see my face.
@@pazi88 I see, yes, the algorhythm thinks it knows best, huh? lol. Multiple language tracks would be amazing, gives you the oportunity to stretch your learning muscle if you desire to do so, as well as providing the average american with the everlasting illusion that everything's in english and, god forbid!, having to read.. READ! captions. 🤣
That intro made me very happy. Cant wait to hear this engine scream, it's going to sound amazing. Looking forward to the wiring video. I'm currently wiring up a M52B28 to a Maxxecu. I might take some notes from your next video :)

Very good to see progress on this one. I like the english videos! The timing process on these is quite a bit more complicated than m52 😱 Do you think the variable exhaust cam is neccesary for your goals regarding powerband? I thought it was mainly done for emission reasons. Hope to see this running soon!
Thanks and yeah it's more complicated, but still doable quite easily. The exhaust cam timing has some effect on the hp output but not nearly as much as the intake cam. So I will keep it, but it's not big loss if the vanos movement/timing for it is bit limited.
Really like these videos with the music and in English. The This Old Tony like intro and getting the funk out like BOM made it really pleasing to watch. Thanks for the effort and the videos! Curious to see this engine run, what intake manifold is going on this engine?
Thanks a lot! I try to make these in a style that I would personally like to watch too. I'm not that big fan of a music in a video, but sometimes it's mandatory. Like in there, there was so much children screaming, dogs barking, neighbour mowing the lawn etc. sounds. So funk it is 😂
Did you check valve to piston clearance with brand new hydraulic lifters? are they empty? if so, after pump up you wont have that much of clearance. and vice versa, if you remove lifters which were running already, they pump up on removal and will show less clearance until adopt during the cranking to correct height again.
i have an iron block m52b8, i have an m54b30 i money shifted and drove pistons in to valves that i took out of my e46 and threw another stock engine in it, and i have a non vanos m50b25 head im looking to do something with. i want to build something out of it, id like to build something not crazy low compression so it has good bottom end torque but also boosted on e85.
i love the intro haha
Hi Pazzi88! I ve got a little question. I ve got a M52tub25 (e46 double vanos 323i), and the cheapest option to upgrade my engine is the m54b30 camshaft. I have already get the inlet camshaft from a 330i but I got a question about cutting those 5mm aprox (you talk about it in other video) just to put it my engine and work properly with it. So thats the doubt, Is it necessary to cut 5mm if I will install that camshaft on a M52TUB25 (double vanos) ?? Thanks and keep on working thiis engine gonna be awsome!!
Not needed on dual vanos engine. You can just "throw it in". Though you need to tune vanos/disa on the ecu after that. Check the ms4x.net for that.
@@pazi88Thank you a lot! I wont be suprised when change those cams. Im familiar with roomraider and tunerpro, basic fuel and advance ignition maps… not yet with vanos :S I found some explanations about simple vanos, but not for double like M52tu and M54. Im really looking fordward to see more about your engine, maybe about tune it and tweek your double vanos 🙏🏼
Ive been thinking to refresh my m52 head. I know it has worn valve guides and exhaust valves arnt perfect. While im in there I'd inatall soke bigger cams as well. But after adding up all the cost of new valve guides, cutting seats, new valves, springs, lifters, cams and so on😢. The price would be half way to s54 swap.
Yeah. It's not cheap to rebuild engine. And once you start adding performance parts, it gets even more expensive. Which is the main reason this has taken so long.
Nice video! is something like this posible on m52b28 single vanos?
Why not. I just chose the dual vanos for wider torque range.
Thanks for your content It is very instructive and even inspiring are you planning an upgrade for coils due to high revs? Thanks in advance
Thanks! It will run stock bmw pencil coils. Those should be more than enough. This can't even rev that high becsuse of b30 crank.
@@pazi88 you have a Ati Dumper? I think 7700rpm is safe with Hydros I read somewhere, stock Coils are weak after 7000rpm, because of Voltage. that informations may be wrong I just wanted to share my experience with you and see what you think
@@misagavrilovic1153 Yeah ati damper. At least in race use, 7500rpm is pretty much limit with the ati. (Stock can barely handle the factory 6800rpm limit). But even 6500rpm is in theory enough for 300hp 😁
@@pazi88 i buy Ati Damper Planing to make m50b30 without vanos 12:1 CR, but i read Ati can Handle 8000 rpm safe. 😅 My plan is to drive Inna light Hydros to 7600-7700rpm. Catcams 276/286 So it's a bad idea 7700 rpm 😅😅😅😁
Could an N52 DISA intake maybe work on one of these? If you're not going ITB's for better throttle response it might be worth trying if you find one for pennies. Pretty useful to have variable length intakes for a high power (which usually means high RPM) NA engine if you plan on ever driving it like a civilised person or off a racetrack. Helps a lot when you don't just have your intake resonance set at a fixed point for either peak power and no low end or low end and less peak power. Also, if you come 10hp short you could theoretically just find a money printer in the woods somewhere and get a dry sump. Should make an extra 10hp if it pulls enough of a vacuum in the oil pan to get rid of those pumping losses, at the cost of finding the aforementioned money printer and spending an entire day doing an oil change because you have to drain like 10 different places haha.
You could also probably 3d print a tool to slot onto the end of the cam and lay flat on the block but rotate where it meets the cam and have degree markings on the piece that stays flat on the block. Wouldn't be the most accurate way to degree cams but at least it would be more consistent than slotting a knife under something lol.
Actually the N52 intake is in the plans for those reasons. I will probaply start with m54 intakes to ease the tuning and get some data to compare if the N52 intake is better or a worse. And yeah the dry sump would be cool, but not really suitable for this 😅
@@stuntvist True. You can easily 3D print thing to set the cams. But for now I don't really know what is the base setting that works best. But for example if I can see that ie. 3 degrees retarted from factory setting is the sweet spot, I can then 3D print timing block for that.
Hyvä informatiivinen video. Tulee katottua vaikka ite oonki Diesel Mersu miehiä. Aina hyvä oppia vähän miten muutkin autot toimii ja niiden jutut. Jafromobile:a tulee kans kattotua samasta syystä vaikka ei oo yhtään Mitsua pihassa! Jatka samaan malliin.
Hello, nice vids & build, I viewed every video! This video makes me wonder if I should worry about piston to valve clearance but i don't find it I have M52B25 simple vanos, going to put m54b30 intake cam + m50b20/5 no vanos intake cam on my exhaust side + I want 1mm head gasket (instead of 1.7mm OEM) to gain higher compression. Should I worry about piston to valve clearance ? Thank you
No need to worry. It should be still fine.
Nice! With M50 intake, 42lbs injectors, exhaust manifold and E85 tune, you can past 270-280hp
This will not have crappy m50 intake 😅
@@pazi88 I found m50b25 intake manifold useless, for m54b30 engine and m52tub28 at least. What intake manifold will you use? Can you cover speeduino install please :)?
@@TomoReso Yeah it's not good for dual vanos engines. But pretty good upgrade for mild m52b28 single vanos. I have speeduino install video for my e39 with m52b28tu: kzhead.info/sun/Za5yo5qMjZaNlJs/bejne.html&feature=share9
@@pazi88is there a reason why m50 intake isnt good for m52tu/m54 dual vanos engines? Stock b30 engines with just this intake and some exhaust headers seem to be getting 270ish hp
@@patrykkowalski6 Because these engines from factory are low horse power and only good quality about them is high torque in low RPM. With M50 intake manifold you give up that only redeeming quality to chase redline peak horse power number. This is not great for daily driver, but ego wins many times anyway and we make a decision to reach that peak number.
Hyvä ja mielenkiintoinen video taas, kiitos👍 Mulla N52B25 venttiilit nakuttaa lyhyessä "nurkka-ajossa" ajoittain melko rajustikin. Loppuu heti pidemmässä ajossa tosin, mutta ihan hävettää joskus kaupan pihalla.🙂 Osaisitko arvioida mikä olis fiksuin korjaus? Auttaisko asiaan raju Forte-käsittely?
Kiitos!

you need to use the gasket when you time with the vanos unit
Not really. At least if you do this way. There is some slack on the vanos "cups". If you push those in without gasket and put on the gasket later, the slack is pretty bang on same on both directions and timing is correct after you rotate engine couple of times.

Onko 300 heppaa m52 vaparista paljon vai vähä? Kun pääasiassa seurailee drift piirejä. On 1k heppasta joka tallis. Tuntuu et 500+ alkaa oleen jo hulluja tehoja harraste vehkeissä. Joskus muinoin kaveri teki 800hp supran omasa tallissa.
Hey, can a dirty or stuck lifter cause missfire on indling only on cold engine ?
Not really. But it will make pretty loud ticking noise if that is case.
Yes it can, but if u are running m52tu engine- check your vanos. In any case, in cold weather- its pretty common problem on m52tu/m54 but i would check ignition and MAF before, had one MAF which was causing rough idle in cold, otherwise car was going great

What type of power could I expect with a 3.0l m50 with a m54b30 intake cam and a non vanos m50 intake cam swapped to the exhaust side(with proper modifications)?
200-240 ish. Depending on the engine health and tune. The exhaust cam swap doesn't really affect much.
@pazi88 Really, I was under the assumption that it made a big difference performance wise. What would be the best one to use?
@@claytonhaske Nope. Intake cam is the one you need to focus. Of course the exhaust cam needs to be good pair for it.

Yes
Kyseessä on e39 530i ajettu 200t.
Kuulostaa imuvuodolta tms.

I honestly thought this project was dead and that you had given up. I love this channel and have used it for a lot of info with other BMW projects, but in my opinion this is a waste of time. Not to be a negative nancy, but it's a lot of money and wasted time for something that will make a lot less power NA than a stock S54, or even S50B32.
It's not about the goal, but the journey 😁 Indeed doesn't make much sense, but interesting to do.
In many countries in Europe you cannot exceed 25% or 30% of original engine power with different engine and engine must be from same chassis code. M5228 and M52TUB28 is sadly only 193PS and S50B32 and S54 are much too powerful. USA and UK car people do not know how lucky they are. Here we can only hide performance upgrade with stroker crankshaft. Supercharger and Turbocharger cannot be hidden from yearly inspection.
@@idokwatcher2062 Yeah true. Back in when I started this project, there was the 20% rule, so s54 or even euro s50 was not possible to swap into regular e36.
