Yup. I knew someone who was a cyclist and saw something like that when someone did exactly that to a fellow cyclist. Then locked it up with a proper bike lock, went into the cafè the owner was in and gave them the key. My friend would have said something, but he saw that the person that did that had also grabbed the bike lock when they got the little pry bars they used and knew what was up. The bike's owner was angry, but everyone else just laughed at him, and told him to thank the person for the new lock and sit down. (Edited for grammar and clarity)

Most of those little padlocks are held together by a spring and like 3 pins. If you know how to pick, thats way easy. If you don't, just use tension or pull really hard in some cases and they just come off lol

I remember being on bourbon street in New Orleans one time, standing outside a bar. A guy pulled up with a case of beer on a bike, spent 5 minutes running a 10' bike lock through anything with a hole in it, spent 30 seconds going in to drop off the case of beer, then another 5 minutes unlocking his bike. I think I would have just walked the bike in myself, as it was slow at that time, but I also saw a bike frame with nothing but the frame chained to a light pole on the way in, I understand the tediousness.

Remove the master link, then the lock will be easily removed. Inserted, purchased a massive sized lock, then the rear wheel to the frame. Then lock the fram to the regular bike rack.

My derailleur broke on a ride. Didn't have to carry the whole bike. Just lifted the rear wheel and steered it. Used whatever tools I had mixing it up with bush craft DIY skills, made it single speed and rode back home. My point is, you don't even need to carry the whole bike!

Any nearby security guards/policemen would notice that you're carrying your bicycle instead of riding it and would question you until you provide proof of ownership with the bicycle's frame number on it. Of course, attaching it to a bicycle stand with a proper chain lock is better, but would you rather leave your bicycle free to drive for anyone instead of locking it like this?

Yup. I knew someone who was a cyclist and saw something like that when someone did exactly that to a fellow cyclist. Then locked it up with a proper bike lock, went into the cafè the owner was in and gave them the key. My friend would have said something, but he saw that the person that did that had also grabbed the bike lock when they got the little pry bars they used and knew what was up. The bike's owner was angry, but everyone else just laughed at him, and told him to thank the person for the new lock and sit down. (Edited for grammar and clarity)

Most of those little padlocks are held together by a spring and like 3 pins. If you know how to pick, thats way easy. If you don't, just use tension or pull really hard in some cases and they just come off lol

You wouldn’t need to use bolt cutters, all you have to do is unlink one of the chains, remove the lock and then put the chain back together.

I agree! I used to ride my bike to class in college, I was surprised and confused when someone stole the seat off of my locked bike. Lol. Since then I've kept a short U lock on the seat of every bike I've owned.
I remember being on bourbon street in New Orleans one time, standing outside a bar. A guy pulled up with a case of beer on a bike, spent 5 minutes running a 10' bike lock through anything with a hole in it, spent 30 seconds going in to drop off the case of beer, then another 5 minutes unlocking his bike. I think I would have just walked the bike in myself, as it was slow at that time, but I also saw a bike frame with nothing but the frame chained to a light pole on the way in, I understand the tediousness.
