Time to drop in the newly built NA engine to my old BMW e36. But before that we will put the old engine back to running condition and see if it runs as it should. And then we will pull it out and replace with the new one.

Really refreshing format on this videos. In a time when BMWs needs 1000hp and 10 screens inside to be "interesting". Then its nice to have some oldschool E36 action, I've had e36 320,325,m328 al coupes long time ago, what a blast hooning them around 😁🤟

Thx for the vid. I've had a hard time finding that same AC tensioner for my 1996 528i recently. It's NLA at BMW and also INA is not selling it anymore. Eventually refurbished my old one by replacing the needle bearings and vibration damper with ones from a m52tu tensioner. Now it's fine again. 😊. Good luck with the project!
Hmmnn. Where are you located? I did check the part stores around here and all have that in stock from several manufacturers. Both the hydraulic and mechanical versions.
@@pazi88 Hey, in the Netherlands. I thought the same and ordered one, but then when it arrived it didn't fit. Found out my early single vanos M52 uses part nr 11281433632 (same as M50) and it's shaped a little differently. I thought yours had the same one on the engine you took out. But I suppose If that's the case you could also swap over the AC pump bracket from the M52TU and use the modern tensioner type which is still available.

I bought one of your early speeduino boards and will be using it eventually to install an m52b28tu into my 83 Celica Supra. I intend to take it apart and install a forged rotating assembly to hold up to moderate boost. Looking forward to poking the purists a bit from both sides - not that it matters as the modern "Supra" is all BMW anyways.
Also the current 5mge has the same displacement as the b28 which is fun.

Yeah KZhead is quite annoying nowadays. It rarely promotes new videos from smaller channels even to the subscribers. I have subscribed to dozen smaller channels and I need to manually go check if they have new videos, because KZhead doesn't tell me that.
@pazi88 must just be how likely you're watching them? They're only going to sell you the ones that you're likely to watch. Either way, glad I've found your channel again. Got rid of all my 36s now, onto the E60s. Keep up with the videos dude. 👍
I am also using the Schmiedmann headers on my m50b30 stroker and it's doing 295 hp currently so they should be fine for your power goals. But I'm also running a single 3" exhaust to the back from the headers. There is also another guy in Estonia who used Schmiedmann headers for a while and managed to push his m50b30 stroker to over 300 bhp from the wheels on them. For the flywheel you could use the m20 single mass one and maybe get it lightened slightly. Mine is slightly under 7 kgs and it's really nice and driveable while also being quite light but not absurdly light.
Yeah. Those headers will probaply be last thing to get swapped out. And of course I need to get some data with those if/how much better different headers are. I will also run 3" straight in this. Well few small mufflers and mandatory cat. But still. Should be plenty of flow.
This is with pump 100 or with ethanol?

Pump gas 98 in Europe. Not sure what the US equivalent is but probably something similar.
This is fantastic. I don't know why I asumed it would go into your e39... maybe because I love e39s.
Well at some point I was even considering dropping this to my e39 😅 But I think it would be bit wasted potential in that. Big heavy car would benefit more from v8 etc. Small high revving engine suits lighter e36 better.
@@pazi88 The only reason I can come up with for installing a strong i6 in an e39 is the front subframe with rack and pinion, which feels a lot more refined than the recirculating ball steering box V8 e39s had. There's a lot of builds of NA and turbo i6 e39s that puts v8 cars to shame, even some M5s. A +300hp N/A engine into a light 523i or something like that will definitely leave V8s behind and while being nicer to drive while at it.
@@juanignaciocaino Well yeah true. But I already have strong ~240hp m52tu in that. So it wouldn't be that much of a upgrade for it.
@@pazi88 that's true, plus 240hp for a daily e39 it's plenty of power, especially starting with a lightweight car like you did (the smaller displacement 6 cyls were lighter from the factory, my 523i manual weights 1350kg more or less the same as a loaded E36) Anyway, thanks as usual for your educational and entertaining content and replies!
Great to see such a high quality video . I have two questions 1 I can't register in romraider forum to download ms 41.2 conversion file , is there a problem with the site? 2 How feels lsd conversion on e39 from racing diffs after time ?
Thanks! 1. The RR Forum registrations are checked by human to prevent spammers. So it could take a while. Also check your junk mail folder. i took m50 power steering pump for my m54, just milled the bracket that holds the pump to get the right ofset ish
Yeah. That's possible. But I already found correct pump for 30€ including 1 year warranty.
Do you use all genuine bmw engine sensors ? For example crank sensor or oxigen. Because i was told non original sensors wont work with factory ecu.
Yeah. Usually only the original ones work reliably for longer periods.
i used the e36 metal cap m50 housing on my m54 and i had to use the the e36 power steering pump and bracket
Yes that is possible. But I need the oil temp sensor that is in the m52tu/m54 oil filter housing. And the spot for that is missing on the older ones with metal cap. Of course I could drill and tap one, but easier to just get the power steering pump.
@@pazi88 I put the temp sensor where the pressure sensor was and then used some various adapters to put to the pressure switch off of where the vanos line is

Yeah plan is to later use that.

Yeah. Shipping outside Finland isn't feasible. The cost is really high. But I might re-use that with the new exhaust, if it's big enough inside.

pazi88, is it possible to remove the engine that way, without removing the gearbox? Next week or so I'll be taking out M52B20 and swapping M50/52B30 into my e36.
Yes it is. Bit annoying but possible. At least with stock headers. Mine are bit annoying because those headers hit everything even without gearbox.

Hey, just Finished swaping a M50b30 in my e36. Runs with Kdfi 1.4 but kinda rough. i got cams from dbilas inlet 272° and outlet 264°, 470cc injectors, Wiseco Pistons for high compression, M54b30 Crank and Maxspeedingrods 135mm H-Rods and bosch Wideband Lsu 4.2 Of course. Any tips for tuning in Tunerstudio, or just give it to someone who can do a Tuning ?
It's just tuning. Same as any other engine 😅 With cams like that, it will run bit rough anyways.
@@pazi88 Do you know what settings are best ? Alpha-N, Speed density or percent baro ? i´ve once read you can use the manifold pressure to ECU and its more accurate than Alpha-N.
Normal speed density works best. Alpha can be easier to tune. But it really only works good for driving flat out. Ie. for race use.@@dennish.7958
What MAF are you using,and injectors.i had issues with maf and only or mad worked OK ,nothing else

Life hack for power streering pump, i see you have luk lf-30 version, there was also lf-20, both known for failure, and noise, just put in pump from 2.5tdi, old a6 etc, they are the same, fits in bracket, pulley is p&p and they are made by ZF not LUK(stfu), so they are life time working, no problems at all, and costs like 10euro on junkyard. I advise against substitute/replacement/chinesee/other brands that not OE, better buy used OE than new "chinesee" because they howl even when new, also cooling is important, im drifting guy, so had problems with boiling power steering fluid, i installed small radiator because OE "pipe" is no good, size of hand maybe? And this setup dont make problems since 6years.

Yeah. Those are something I have been trying to look for. But seems that those are only cheap in US, so it would get quickly expensive to get those here.

Tulee joo. Ainakin vakio pakosarjojen kanssa. Mut on se melko taistelua ollu. Noiden kiinanpakosarjojen kanssa on vielä nihkeempää. Niin mulle ainakin helpompi ottaa vaan loota suosiolla pois nosturilla.

Has the E61 replaced the E39 Pazi?
It has replaced our family hauler e39 touring some time ago. But I still have the rusty e39 winterbeater.

Unfortunately no. I haven't even started this yet. It's the classic thing where last 5% of the build take up 90% of the time 😅
@@pazi88 Well thats unfortunate. I have learned a lot from you, you really helped me with your videos with tuning ms42/43! Thank you! Since then ive installed and tuned m54b30 with small sc eaton m62, works flawlessly. Sadly due to road regulations I am thinking of regrind cams but not sure if its worth it. ATM my engine puts out 297hp and 420nm... Would regrind cams come close to this HP? would 280ish hp be possible with headers, tune and stock m54b30 intake manifold? What do you think?
