11 years ago Petra made the final and 11 years later she wins the title. Amazing career Petra has had. Definitely a memorable player during this 2010s/2020s period of woman’s tennis. It’s always great to see Petra win; what an amazing game she has when she is focused like this.

Maybe the best tennis player which never achieved #1 ever... Imagine winning 29 titles, 2 of which in Wimbledon, making successful career and never reaching #1... And nowadays players like Kontaveit, Badosa and Krejcikova are reaching the #2... (nothing against them but currently they aren't top 2 worthy)

Btw this has been elite serving by Kvitová this tournament! 39 consecutive service games won without being broken. Overall for the tournament, she was only broken twice. It was 51/53 service games won , and 13/15 break points saved

Kvitova wins …..I mean she is beautiful person in and off the court, and all credit for that. Unfortunately this only means that when Swiatek arrives to Wimbledon, there is no question who is delivering bagels and breadsticks.
Ostapenko will never win Wimbledon unless she gets her serve together. She beat Simona to win the French only because Simona hadn’t learned how to win Slams. I don’t see Olana ever winning another Major again.

@@huzcer Let’s see how far Kvitova goes in this tournament, but at least she is former no.1 in WTA ranking. Raducanu is out, what you expect fro her more than plain stupidity changing five or maybe it was four times a coach in last 12 months, and now plays without coach? She has money from her sponsors, so she should invest on top coaching staff like Iga did and continues to invest 20 % into them of her 10+ million USD prize money from this year. That prize money is more than the most top10 players in their whole career. Raducanu like Sabalenka have the problem of taking critics which would help them to develop. Too big egos. If you would seen Swiatek parents house when they decided one year BEFORE coming to WTA tour invest to the sport psychologist. The house had only first floor finished but after 4 years you see how it pays back. Petra is without a big ego, she has a long career behind her but still she is in the top condition. In her age, she maybe already has the opportunity to choose in which tournaments she plays. Raducanu is going down all the way down to the basement continuing like this.
Just goes to show how beloved Petra is amongst the players, Ostapenko, one of the nastiest and unsportsmanlike players on the tour goes in for the hug and not just the quick hand touch.

Unfortunately disagree for Iga. There are some (not few) people who still think Iga is undeserved #1 due to Ash's retirement and also because of the fact she is dominating in weak era.

Yeah, Ash's retirement was confidence booster for Iga, but Iga isn't guilty for that Ash retired. Also Ash didn't dominate in that way like Iga does, although i respect Ash so much. About the weak era argument - it won't will be forever - early or late better times will come for WTA... ATP also was in weak era till Big 3, but see ATP in the recent 15-20 years...

Pleased for Kvitova. Despite the real trauma in her life there is no drama with her. No bursting into tears because someone in the crowd said boo. No retiring when losing mid match with the slightest ailment. No threatening to kill linespeople. Well done.

@@jukkao.parviainen8669 Swiatek's career record on grass thus far is 4-5... she's young and has the ability to dramatically improve her performances on the surface but to assume she'll destroy everyone is naive. She ought to go deep but there are players that can hurt her on grass.

I would take Serena off the list because at forty years old and all the time she hasn't competed, I very much doubt that she will go far in the tournament. But I agree with everything else.
@@Mojican i also think current Serena is overhyped only because of her achievements in the past. But many people see her with the Wimbledon title and i am not joking. Yes, she is undoubtedly one of the greatest in history of the sport, but the fact she didn't play 1 year and WTA changed so much in this period make me think she won't win Wimbledon, but could make solid performance (R4/quarterfinal) which would be great comeback.
@@xxxxxxxx8634 With Serena you always have to be cautious and more so in the Grand Slams, she remembers that when she came back from being a mother nobody thought she would win again and she reached four G. Slam finals although she lost them all. But I think this time it will be different and I would be surprised if she even reaches the round of 16.

Congratulations, Petra! This caps an exquisite career of a tennis player who is dear to all other players. Petra has always been hard to beat. Ask Serena, Sharapova, Azarenka, Wosniaki and others who were top 10...Petra commanded respect but always had a flaw: she never liked to run sideways at the back of the court. She didn't dictate the rhythm of the matches and made the opponents run. Now she is thin, and she increases the points and earns a lot of points to defend and defend. I get the impression that a FINAL between Petra Kvitova Vs Haddad Maia would have been fairer. The best in the bracket were classified as two players from that semifinal. Kvitova is a great person and great player!
That reminds me of vintage grass court Petra!!!! I am so exited and hopefully she can carry this form into Wimbledon! That looks like the form where she thrashed Bouchard that year!

Petra has just become my Wimbledon dark horse pick, even though she's in Iga's half. Hoping she at least gets to play Iga! It's likely going to take a former Grand Slam champ, playing flawless tennis and using their experience, to end Iga's streak. And Petra at Wimbledon-why not? Also, always so nice to see Petra win. Hard to find anyone who doesn't want to root for her.
