That third round match against Venus has to be one of the best WTA matches of the past decade. Absolutely superb.

She’s had her chances and she has also been unlucky…at her best I think she could have 5-7

This was Petra’s best shape since 2011. Destroyed in the first two rounds,then having the iconic match with Venus,then meeting one of the best Chinese tennis player along Li Na,then having to do the sad task to destroy two of the best Czech tennis players after her,and destroying a prime Genie Bouchard. This why I love Petra so much. When she’s on,she really is on…
Petra was like Mary Pierce. These two when they were on they were pretty much unplayable.

Peak Petra can destroy anyone. Remember when she started to peak like that at some tournaments, I'm thinking of Wimby 2010 against Wozniacki and the second set against Azarenka the round before.. And that Wuhan open when she destroyed every players for the title
That's not a peak if she didn't manage to win the whole tournament. Cherry picking matches is not a peak
Petra was unstoppable at Wimbledon 2014 and the 3R match was 🔥 I feel like with the way the draw turned out if Venus had beaten Petra she could’ve won another Wimbledon but then again Bouchard and Safarova could’ve beaten her.

I've always said that peak Petra is almost unbeatable. Few players can stay with her when she is in God mode. Sad that it hasn't happened frequently enough. How I wish she could have another 2 weeks like this. On a lighter note. Some credit Kvitova's win in that final with derailing Bouchard's career. She was never the same after that match. Lol

Always have been a Kvitova fan and hope she will win at least one more GS (although I'm not too optimistic about that) but when Safarova lost to her I was so heartbroken for her😅

IMO prime Kvitova is the best wta player ever ( her prime lasted such a short period tho) . I mean.... she has one of the strongest serves , bh and fh and unlike other tall girls she has great physics and flexibility at net.... and her defense is really underrated . I really wonder how she didn't win 10+ GS and hasn't become world number 1....Consider I'm not her fan at all since she is mostly defeating my Mugu lol
You should educate yourself on 90s and 00s WTA. Petra does not come close.
@@kevinjmartin1444 I did watch a lot of 90s player's matches and some of my favoruties are from those times . But average top 20 current player is like top 5 of those times lol . Not saying that those players were bad . The level of tennis generally increased over time , ur defenitely highballing them
and yet she almost lost to granny Venus that year...although Vee played an ok match by her standards that Wimbledon but she was still way past her peak with slow movement and reactions.

When I think of Indian Wells 1999, I think of a 17 yr old Monica Seles (Serena) playing Graf in the final. Wimbledon 2014 was like Venus playing a left handed, younger Lindsay Davenport (Kvitova)

No Venus wouldn’t demolish her. Petra’s more powerful off the ground on both her backhand and forehand especially, which is sometimes a liability for Venus. Petra’s second serve is also much better, Venus always slices it and it’s quite slow, plus the ball sits up perfectly for taller players. Venus is a much better mover though, she has a bigger first serve and is slightly better at the net. Imagine 2008 Venus vs 2014 Petra .. 🙊🤩

The only glaring weakness Kvitova has is her movement. She is not built for retrieving, and to compensate, she tries to finish to ball early and it leads to unforced errors. However, if the timing and placements of her serve, return and forehand are on, God help you...
