KALI “Panantukan” GUY vs. BOXER: Boxing Sparring Sessions

The taller one is the Kali guy (me). I consider myself a Kali guy first and foremost, but I love western boxing as a sport in itself and as an excellent supplement to any martial art. I train with boxers as much as I can to further my empty hand game.
Gratitude goes to my boxing teachers : Coach Nathan , Coach RC, Kru Jayson, Batikang Guro Isagani Abon, founder of RRK-Abon Taktikal, and Grandmaster Henry Espera, founder of Rapido Realismo Kali.
In these boxing sparring sessions, my coaches are obviously going easy on me, that's why I was able to execute some combinations.
Of course, I only chose those clips where I didn't appear as an absolute ass, scared of being punched in the face (see last 2 clips) :)
As a Filipino, I understand that the term “Panantukan” does not make much sense in the context of the Filipino language, but I feel that it has come into common usage that whether we like it or not, the term is here to stay.
My FMA background includes Rapido Realismo Kali, Modern Arnis, and some limited Pekiti Tirsia Kali and Dekiti Tirsia Siradas.

  • Unfortunately a boxer would never allow a kali master to display empty handed techniques. That would aquire no gloves

  • I would like to ask if you have ever used the Panantukan style in a live situation? I would like to know if it is a fight with bare hands, is Panantukan more suitable for fighting or Boxing?

    @ironjohn@ironjohnАй бұрын
    • Hello brother! I haven’t. I feel boxing would be more suitable than “panantukan”. In my opinion, Kali is a weapons-based system, and “panantukan” only serves as a last resort in the unfortunate situation of if the Kali guy is disarmed.

    • Thank you, bro, I've seen your shadowboxing from 3 years ago, that was amazing! No full contact sparring yet, this is as intense as our sessions get. Maybe after a few more months of training I can try going all out

  • What do the flow drills contribute to sparring and how much?

    @mikhailvasiliev6275@mikhailvasiliev62753 жыл бұрын
    • Not so much. I am not able to execute any of the flow drills during sparring. Punch retraction is too fast and contact time between our forearms is too short for my body to even register any stimulus for any of the sensitivity drills.

    • @@bladesociety Do you know anybody who can? Is Kali all you've practiced? I'm very curious as to what empty hand Kali adds to a fighter's arsenal since I find it so cool. I don't doubt that at some point in my life I will at least dabble in it, but I'd still like to know going in.

    • @@mikhailvasiliev6275 In my opinion, I think the empty hands of Kali gives an edge mainly against the typical untrained attacker in the street. I'd like to think of Kali empty hands as a means of bridging (1) defense against the initial attack and (2) drawing your concealed weapon. Guro Isagani Abon, our training director, is one of the best Kali empty hand guys I've seen. He's the one in camo shorts and sandals kzhead.info/sun/f5adppmFnHapmXk/bejne.html

    • Sorry for the title, but thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. I wouldn't try to apply guntings or hubuds against a boxer.

    • yeah most the the kali stuff you can't do. its kinda similar but kali is more empty handed and includes nastier things like elbows and arm breaks and traps. I train both at the moment. kali is for the street and boxing a sport. both similar though.

    • @@bladesociety Thank you for your honest answer. This video is not from yesterday, but i give an answer, as though... The goal should be that the boxer is afraid of dealing wih you, kali man. Long training is necessery for this. But its amazing to see what your body can do, when your mind is turned of. Have fun on the long road, that fortunately never ends...
