Footage taken during the UST FMA recruitment drive, July 2013. UST stands for University of Santo Tomas, one of the oldest universities in Asia, located in Espana, Manila, Philippines.
Official UST FMA Facebook page : / ustfma
The UST FMA group promotes Filipino culture through the practice of and immersion in Filipino Martial Arts (Kali/Arnis/Eskrima, Sikaran, Yawyan, Silat, Kuntaw, Panuntukan, Dumog, etc.) within the University of Santo Tomas. The goal is to discover, appreciate and preserve the beauty of FMA through the diverse interpretations of the art as seen in different groups and systems across the archipelago, while learning its practicality and other aspects through a healthy sharing of ideas and concepts by the different FMA groups.
UST FMA aims to impart to students the different cultures that have been passed on to different groups and systems of Filipino Martial Arts.
The group aims to promote FMA in UST to encourage the students to appreciate the art, see its beauty, and incorporate the lessons of the past to the modern age.
The UST FMA group serves an avenue where Filipino Martial Artists of different styles and systems can gather and learn from each other; keeping an open mind and helping each other grow as a person, fostering solidarity and understanding among the members of the Thomasian Community. It is a means of development of one's moral character and personal discipline, instilling the Thomasian cores values of compassion, commitment and competence.
The UST Filipino Martial Arts Group was founded by Guro Adrien Pierre "AA" Quidlat, PTRP, MD and Guro Dave Zapanta who were later joined by core members Tyrone Jay Almendrala, RJ Lu, Joseph Jas Dulay, Milo Galang, April Sahagun, Jan Nullas, Gabriel Edilberto Cruz, and Jan Vittorio Quizon.
In the video are Rapido Realismo Kali instructors Dalubhasang Guro Joemar Obejas, Guro Dr. Adrien Pierre “AA” Quidlat, Guro Dr. Alexander Tiongson, and friends.

  • everything is making so much sense to me right now. I dance and I've always naturally found myself dancing with spinning arm movements and twirling sticks swiftly and rhythmically, which I now see is in the Filipino fifty percent of my blood breathing in me. I can't wait to start practicing this beautiful art that i have only just discovered, but which has already been a part of who i am.

    • Dude, you could be interested by The ww1Arditi's fighting systems, the Italian special forces who raised hell into the enemy trenches using knives and daggers, when the command saw that firearms were insufficient, cause there was a lot of bayonet, daggers, even maces engagement, the heads decided to create assault companies composed by crazy guys quick with the knife (my grandfather was one of em), so they used all the navy enforcers who served in Philippines or Indonesia and learned kali, mixed with a late medieval manual Flos Duellatorum by the Duke Fiore De Liberi It's quite a funny story: Italian underworld's knife combat style and the knives too, were an heredity of all the Philippinos soldiers serving into the Spanish tercios here in Italy, so, those guys who have become quick with their knives using unconsciously kali skills, receiving a discipline by actual kali instructors but, in battle, using their civilian knives (mostly sardinian resolza) cause the army's daggers were a crap

    • The issue is that all of concerns special forces, here in Italy is covered (even which kind of trenches they use for cut barbed wire) but is practically the same of nowadays special forces, is part of the program so you could ask to some former Navy Arditi's or 9th Regiment Parachutists COL. MOSCHIN, Com. Sub. In (our version or navy seals or better, navy seals are a version of our, their first instructor was a the infamous X M. A. S. Commander, Junio Valerio Borghese, the black prince, fascist as fuck) or an USA ranger, I know one that served also in Italy and studied our Arditi's fighting system

  • And majority of combat sports competition, i dont see FMA, only in ASEAN OLYMPICS. MaPhiLindo association organizes this sports competition. My dream is to have a martial arts research institute in all styles of combat. Research what is useful and what is not. Do you agree my proposed idea?😄

  • Nice moves very skillful...arm trapping techniques are very similar to bruce lees jet kune do since bruce lee taught dan inosanto tekniks abowt wingchun and dan inosanto taught bruce lee arnis and kali...dan inosanto was a pilipino who brought arnis and kali to united states...they learned from each other thats why they evolved and created a very effective martial arts system especially in the streets...see how they get the knives and lock the elbow and wrist joints?..very similar to jet kune do locks...mabuhai... how much per session?

    • Tyler Lalonde lol you don't know what your looking at you see attack and defending at the same time, then you see defending in different ways for the exact same attack.

      @zagan1@zagan18 жыл бұрын
    • zagan1 no I know what's going on. but it doesn't look impressive when you don't see the other guys attacks which could easily be bad attacks like just putting his arm out to get attacked.
