With weakening economies but still high inflation there is a severe risk of deep recession/depressions around the globe. The Price of oil MUST stay stable around $80/barrel or lower if we hope for a soft landing that doesn't put tens or hundreds of millions of people out of work

    • Hmm,when Chechen terrorists were accused of carrying out deadly bombings of apartment buildings in Moscow elsewhere, in the fall of 1999, killing 293 innocent civilians. For Vladimir Putin, they prompted him to launch a devastating war against Chechen rebels in the Caucasus. One more example of Russian 'tradition' : On November 26, 1939, the Russians came up with a special provocation, the so-called 'Shelling of Mainila' (Finnish: Mainilan laukaukset). The Russians bombed their own territory close to the Russian-Finnish border and blamed the Finns for this. They then demanded an apology from their neighboring country. The Finns were stunned and refused to say 'sorry'. Four days later, Russia attacked Finland. What could be the Putler reason now ? : general mobilization to make the population ripe for war with Nato. Just guessing...

Putin has a history of this (as mentioned in Denis's video) and Putin needs to whip up support for his recruitment campaign. If, as Russia will probably maintain, that it was a Ukrainian operation, what possible motive would Ukraine have for doing it - everything they've done to date is to strike military & military related targets in Russia. And anyone can can upload straight lies, blatantly twisted propaganda or ridiculous pea-brain opinions. A few channels are OK, like this one for the day-to-day minutia of the Ukraine conflict, but even Denis gets slightly over-optimistic sometimes (for example, the US aircraft which are always "coming soon").

    • @@amurry5042 MSM shouldn't be outright disregarded - this is one of the biggest traps people fall into. Independent journalists are great but shouldn't be taken in isolation. The BBC is still a credible source even if they make mistakes. People just believe the BBC isn't credible because they occasionally report on something that doesn't align with their own views, which is actually them fulfilling their impartiality mandate. You'll never get true impartiality but they are as impartial as you're going to get thanks to them being publicly owned (not state or corporate). BBC Verify alone is worth its weight in gold. They spend all day on Twitter debunking disinformation and are not selective on which side of an issue they will do this for. They debunk pro-Ukraine disinfo as well as Russian disinfo. They also tackle pro-Palestinian disinfo as well as pro-Israeli disinfo. People think they're somehow intellectually superior for not believing anything at all in main stream media when instead you should just be sceptical and check other credible sources. Otherwise you're relying purely on KZheadrs with their own biases and no actual investigative journalist resource. Should the BBC be trusted completely? No - it's still made by people and people make mistakes. Are they a propaganda outlet? No - not even remotely and it's easy to counter that claim if anyone actually put the work into finding reporting which aligns with their own views as well as the opposing views.

  • Thanks for your continued reporting, Denys! The Russian gains seem to me to be a symptom of ammunition shortages on Ukraine's part. The Czech initiative has gotten enough financial contributions to start sending shells, but they are talking about deliveries by June. It's not clear to me why it would take more than a month at most to get these shells to Ukraine. Poland has promised to provide access for deliveries, though it seems to me that Ukraine now has sufficient control of the western Black Sea for some deliveries to happen by that route, though Turkiye could block that. Speaker Johnson had said that any Ukraine bill would have to wait for a US stopgap funding bill. This seems backward to me, but the funding bill is now passed, so he should be able to turn to a Ukraine aid bill. There seem to be three major options, the Senate bill, the Fitzpatrick bill and the loan based bill that some Representatives are trying to cobble together. While to me the Fitzpatrick bill makes the most sense because it includes some border control, the loan based bill appears to face the least resistance. I think it's based on Trump's idea of charging no interest and having no payment deadline, so it would be pretty close to a grant - the principal value would fall toward zero as it's eaten away by inflation, like WW2 lend-lease - but by calling it a "loan" some Representatives can pretend to their constituents that US taxpayers aren't paying for it. I'd expect to see movement on this within a few weeks.
