  • It's interesting how you can tell this set of armor is tailored for some sort of tournament rules, rather than any form of "real" combat. Which is totally fine, they developed tournament specific armor back in the day, it's just interesting to see how this reflects the rules of it's time.

    • The modifications needed to make it work for “real” combat are minor. Add a fauld to protect the crotch, sew mail to cover the remaining gaps in the armpit/elbows, and order the cuises that they make that cover the backs of the thighs, or sew mail there too. The helm is a different matter, but there are many historic examples of helms that are made for battle that had less protection. The current rules for bohurt are pretty realistic, excepting that thrusts are prohibited.

  • For anyone who might not know, the cuirass isn't studded leather it's brigendine. Brigendine is a bunch of plates riveted to leather.

  • So... I received my set 3 days ago (after a loooong waiting) Only had 2 problems : - sabatons are too short (there is a gap between legs and sabatons) which is sometimes uncomfortable. - NO padding in my griffon (and THAT is a real problem)... Where the hell is the padding??? Otherwise, the set is quite comfortable, protection is really good, and mobility is excellent. PS : if some are wondering (I'm à 1.97m / 95kg guy) Arms : 1.83kg each Mittens (with padding) : 0.91kg each Pauldrons : 1.01kg each Cuisse : 2.63kg each Greave : 1.64kg each Sabatons : 0.51kg each Bascinet (WITHOUT padding) : 4.14kg So 21.2kg (46,74lbs) [doesn't include the brigandine or pelerine]

    • +The ArtArmor Workshop Hello, a very nice production mate. Personally, I'm not a fan of how flashy ur trying to make this vid. It makes it a bit cheezy and less authentic. Also, I'm more about historical accuracy, so I'm not a fan of wearing it without any mail. Some of your pieces are totally awesome though. I love that kettle helm with spiral on top, it looks so cool.

    • I'd suggest learning to make your own when it comes to gambeson. It's not that hard to do if you have the right materials and tools. And both are usually cheap.

  • +1 For the Brigandine, i love brigandines. Altough im suprised to see no maille, and by the looks of it the groin is very exposed for this fella. Also doesnt really look like these two practise any type of historical fighting, but +1 for trying. :P

  • Its a very well made armour but for a melee armour the groin is not protected well enough. A chainmail skirt would really protect the wearer alot more from quick stabs and slices to the crotch. overall really well made!

  • Брига застегивается на груди-опасно... Надо бы ещё поверх нагрудник какой-нибудь цеплять,или зерцало... А то врубаться в этот шов топором хорошо,или на копьё насаживать. Получается ослабленное место прям по центру туловища...

    • Strap under toes, and "belt" behind your heel. Easy to install, doesn't move whatever you do.

    • Depends on the gamberson and preference of the fighter, I believe. Either way, it would've only been gussets and the like, not a full shirt.

  • Would a roll like that really have any effect? Where I train doing something like that would be blasphemous, fancy spins, rolls jumps etc. are discouraged as it would rather be dangerous instead of helpfull.

    • +Damiaan Moors roll jumps were used when you were knocked down and the urgent need to jump to the side and do not have time to get up to full height as the enemy is nearby

  • Да это от имени рыцаря Тристана из средневекового романа "Тристан и Изольда". Само слово - от латинского tristus - "печальный". Но почему автор пишет не Tristan, а Trictan? Ведь это получается совсем другое слово - tricus, "трюк", "обман" :) ну, автор кузнец а не латынщик, и, как известно, рыцари тоже были в основном не грамотеи :))) Поэтому - любители грамматики пусть идут на другие каналы, а здесь - о железе и боях! Автор - молодец!

  • Доспех красивый, но по моему мнению ремешки слишком длинные и они торчат во все стороны. Было бы красивее если бы они были короче, или как минимум чтобы было дополнительное крепление. Но если есть весомая причина почему они такие длинные, то можешь пожалуйста ответить?

  • wow... interested in material facts, what kind of leather used for straps, what HRC (Rockwell) is mild steel (like 50 HRC ???) (mild steel?, the cheapest would be like 370 or perhaps C35 or 12C27 or 440... what kind of steel .../same for springsteel? ... lol what steel exactly? is CPMS90V possible? or AR680? i have tablets for hundreds of mixtures of steel ...) and most importantly up to which point are the plates hardened (like 59 HRC???) if you spend the extra ammount ... and does it make sense according to the thickness of the plate to harden it at all ... physics speaking here ... (swordsmith living in germany so i appologize for my bad english...)

  • It looks like the leather torso armor has plates on the inside, am I correct? It seems a little odd that a harness would have full plate arm and leg protection, but not full plate chest and back pieces, was this ever done historically? I like the helmet on the second guy, but he should have strapped it on! LOL.

    • Carbine actually no man. That stuff is filled with small plates on the inside, they are just sewn into the leather.

    • There is no such thing as Brigandine cuisses. What you're refferring to are known as Splinted cuisses or Leg harnesses. Its called "Splinted armour" because Metal Strips known as "splints" are riveted to a hardend boiled leather covering known as Cuir Bouilli. While Brigandine are small hardend metal pieces riveted together to a fabric covering, which would be impractical for a leg harness.

    • By the way there is no Historical significance behind these pieces, he said at the start of the video that this armour isn't an historical reproduction but rather something that would be useful in modern day medieval combat sports like battle of nations.

    • Ну, наверное потому что колющих ударов нет, оружие затуплено, бригантина смягчит удары, но большинство из них придется на голову и плечевой пояс, и зачем тогда таскать лишний вес в виде нагрудника или кирасы?

  • Ну епт, отсутствие кирасы меня убивает🗿 Не хочу уехать с переломами позвоночника и рёбер от ударов алебардой/топоров. + не защищена задняя часть ног. Может доспех и хорош вполне 1на1 в проф.турнирах, но для 5на5 и больше - слишком не надежны эти ваши бриги, особенно когда вас будут лупасить несколько человек.

    • Вместо кирасы более подвижный доспех. Из стальных или титановых пластин. Чтоб их в бою не вырвали, и плотнее прилегал, пластины приклёпывают к внутренней части.

    • Это не кираса из кожи, а бригантина, к коже крепятся металлические пластины с внутренней стороны.

    • Это не курточка, а бригантина, под кожей стальные пластины + 2 слоя стеганной брони, вообще ничего не почувствуешь.
