  • I have a theory…Since that infamous tackle by Owen Farrell years ago against the Springboks (Esterhuizen) was allowed and deemed within the rules of the game, Rassie had a bloody good look at what is within the rules …and we are seeing that now. Absolutely brilliant 👍

  • If the 7-1 split didn't work out for the Springboks nobody would've had a problem with it but now that it's effective and so hard to stop it gets a lot of negative criticism and it's apparently against the culture of the game.Every team has different tactics,for years players that were on the bench weren't necessarily on the bench because they weren't the best in their positions but because they were tactical substitutions and were "impact players".You have to respect the coaching staff for making it work because it's a huge risk to play with a bench like that, but the coaching staff has put together a team with so much depth and took the time to develop a team where players can play out of position comfortably even on a international stage. Definitely doesn't seem against rugby culture to me,seems more like brilliant coaching utilizing players talent very efficiently and effectively within the laws of the game. 👏

    • It's only "worked" once and for my 2c it was "win more" rather than contributing anything to achieving the win. If anything, NZ got more into the game from there. At that stage it was 21-0. I'm 100% behind the 6-2 split. There is enough redundancy and to me it feels like a no-brainer with the players we have available. I just feel 7-1 doesn't add enough to warrant not having another backline player on the bench. In saying that its not my call and I'm still backing us for another title. I just don't get the hate though. If anything I think we are potentially hamstringing ourselves. Are there not two SA forwards fit enough to go 80? On the "player welfare" issue, its a non-issue. If you are so concerned about player welfare, take all the minnow nations out of the RWC, putting actual amateur players up against tier 1 pro packs carries a lot more risk for serious injury. Is this mat guy so trying to become relevant or take some focus off of something else? Get off that horse, mate, you've lost any semblance of perspective at that altitude.

    • @@anotherstormer Now it worked twice

      @NoName-hg6cc@NoName-hg6cc6 ай бұрын
    • @@anotherstormerthere are two forwards who could go 80 minutes for sure, but a fresh forward will always have that extra impact. Every forward is tired and struggling in the second half/at the end. So having one extra fresh forward on (without losing too much quality in the team due to depth in the squad) can make the difference. Backs usually just don’t have that impact. Having extra backs on the bench is usually more an insurance policy in case you have an injury in the back line. The 7-1 split was crucial for the Bokke in winning that RWC final.

Springboks have a 7/1 split, but Kwagga Smith can play the Centre positions and the backline is versatile enough that it can suffer a loss of any two positions and be able to cover both of those backline positions from the bench.

    @benkroukamp8372@benkroukamp83727 ай бұрын
    • It is more dangerous. The bigger the collisions the bigger the damage. It's not necessarily the knock outs that cause brain damage but the thousands of smaller jolts to the brain throughout a career. World Rugby say they care about player welfare and have been very obvious about sanctioning head knocks during games, but do nothing about the increased size of the players by making the game more cardio focussed. The bomb squad takes advantage of that and plays a ton of huge players because they only have to play a little over half the game. If World Rugby cared about player welfare they could change the rules so that body sizes 10kg below what they have become would be needed. It wouldn't take away anything from the spectacle but teams wouldn't be able to rely on bulk so much and players and their brains would be in a safer and environment

    • @@RassieErasmustheGOAT I literally said nothing about removing physical contact from rugby so I don't know why you said what you did. What I said about player size is objectively true. It would have been discussed at board level at world rugby. If an increased risk of players getting dementia in their 40s, not to mention the general wear and tear on bodies across world rugby as teams look to respond is an acceptable price for Springbok victories well, that's kinda sad and a path I personally don't want to see rugby go down. But don't say that being able to field almost two forward packs who have 10 - 15 kg each on the SA pack of a decade ago doesn't make playing more dangerous both in the short and long term. And it's not even necessary for the spectacle of rugby

  • If you've got the skilled players able to play in many positions, then its the coaches choice where he plays them and when. Why are people whinging, perhaps its jelousy. Nothing stops any other team doing the same and ALL Blacks have had such skilled players all along playing where they are needed. Can understand though how England must feel who need armless defenders to try and break through stronger defences. Farrel should be banned for life after his 3rd ticket. Would love to see him try that with our forwards.

His fear is that amateur teams will copy this tactic, which they will if it's successful, and lead to serious injuries at that level. Rugby has issues worldwide with people leaving or not picking up the sport, due to head injury concerns. Especially true in Australia at schoolboy level. A few paralyzed front row players and rugby is finished there and elsewhere. Williams is voicing his personal concerns about player welfare down the line.

  • What if any rugby team has 7 Jono lomo's. Years ago, the europe teams were built much smaller, but nowdays they are all on par. Even Japanese players have become much bigger players lately. I think it is all even nowadays for any player to be selected by coaches to play in any positions. The simple point is if your opposition players are big you have to select bigger players as well to match them in speed and durability otherwise your team will definitely loose out if the playfield is not even between 2 teams. This all happened because of the purse money's for it is professionalal sport today. I coach a high school team, and there must be definate rules for amature rugby and professional rugby especially in the set pieces for the differential in all spheres are not compareble in amature rugby.

Good luck in all those forwards keeping up with the speed of the game. This game plan from the Springboks is designed to slow the game down, which is fine, that's their strength and they should be allowed to play that way. It's a double edged sword at the end of the day.

    @subhuman119@subhuman1197 ай бұрын
    • yeah you clearly missed the game where the springboks made history by beating NZ with 28 point almost a month ago, you're talking about pace? I wonder how the Boks won the previous World Cup when we went in ranked 5th while Ireland and NZ were 1st and 2nd. Also no tries have been scored against the Boks in the World Cup so far and the reason for a forward bench is because forwards do most of the effort while the backs we have are pretty insane with their try scoring, it's a perfect recipe and also crushes your opponents with physicality as a bonus

      @okuhtttf@okuhtttf7 ай бұрын
    • @@okuhtttf No I didnt miss the game at all. The Springboks caught the AB's off guard with the 7-1 and blew them off the park, and good on them. Are you forgetting that England were beat up in the final of the previous RWC, and also that the Springboks lost their first game in that tournment - and what happened against Japan in 2015. Take off your biased blinkers and look at it objectively. If the Springbok game plan doesnt work, which can happen (Not according to SA fans though) they are going to struggle to maintain the pace of the game. And if you want to talk about records regarding AB's and SA.. I have 57 reasons and a long standing record why that's a bad idea. Unfortunately SA fans have a very short memory

All South African wingers do is stand on their wing and wait to be gifted tries, talking about Adrense and Mapimpi, the exception is Cheslin Kolbe who is amazing. De Allende and Kriel as a centre pairing don't match up to Garry Ringrose and Bundee Aki, or Rieko Ioane and Jordie Barrett. The exception is Lukhyano Am, who is the best midfielder in the world (unfortunately he's not playing). Le Roux and Willemse don't even come close to being the best full backs in the game either - it's a complete joke that you think that.

But anyway, when you have that kind of unmatched power, what does it even mean "take it away"? Name one team in the world that has the capacity to "take it away". 7 fresh world class forwards vs 5 makes a difference and it's the kind of difference that can win a WC. Having said all that, Ireland are top quality, play like a well-oiled machine and this game will come down to the smallest of tactical details. Who can exploit this little weakness at this crucial point in the game and these things. The two most solid and tightest teams in the world facing each other is so exciting!
