So how did South Africa win the 2023 Rugby World Cup Final? | RWC2023 Analysis

They did it again. South Africa last Saturday announced themselves as one of history's great sides as Siya Kolisi's immortals became just the second side ever to retain the men’s Rugby World Cup. So, how did they do it, what got them over the line, just how close was their 1-point win, what can the All Blacks take from this, how critical was the red card, and where, in the history of the game, does this side deserve to rank?

Finally!! Brilliant, thanks Squidgy!
"Peter Steph commits a murder and doesn't need to hide the body because it evaporates on impact" sent me🤣🤣🤣
Greatest quote ever.
The way you cry for our captain makes most Saffas tear up 😂❤
Your tribute to Siya Kolisi is truly wonderful enkosi (thank you) for that. The Nod to Gareth Mason is pure class, this channel is filled with genuine integrity and great humanity 🙏🏿
I'm not crying, you are!
Seconded. Squidge got my dabbing my eyes with a hanky towards the end there.
I was very emotional at the end, when the G-Man tribute came up, I just remembered that dude doing post match reports on the England incoming tour in 2018. He was so passionate about the Boks and was so proud of the players it was infectious.
Sorry I was chopping onions😢@@christiankellermann8300
I too thought it was a great tribute to making excuses and brushing under the table Kolisi's far more dangerous tackle, while saying over and over and over there's no excuse for Sam Cane.
That superb ankle tap tackle by De Klerk in the second half isn’t spoken about enough
Willie le Roux was waiting there to make that tackle, but you can be sure he wasn't looking forward to it haha

so happy that world rugby woke up and realized your analysis is the best thing for the game
Commenting and liking to appease the algorithm. This masterpiece was never supposed to be pulled down. Glad it’s back up.
So this is how I will spend my Sunday night... 20:00: Chasing the Sun 2, episode 5, the final! And then, If I have tears left, Ill have 15 minutes to gather myself and then 21:15 it will be SQUIDGE!!!!! Cant wait! Thanks for all your hard graft to get this out!
Knowing Squidge he probably did this on purpose :)
Is there anyway to watch chasing the sun without dstv
Double header for me too..chasing the sun episode 5, then some squidge to marinate the moment in. Awesomeness!!
@@isma-eeljakoet601 yup. Go to A & E rugby and follow the breadcrumbs. For obvious reasons, I have to be cryptic.
The first series is on Rugby Pass TV now. CTS 2 will be available in August. Rugby Pass TV is free.
Squidge saying "lekker" made my year😂😂 after next world cup he will be fluent in S.A slang
Nice one Squidge Good to have the video back on KZhead. Justice has been done
Glad you moved it from 9pm to 9.15pm. Need to gather myself after Chasing the Sun 2 final episode. What an evening it's going to be😍
What a trubute to Siya towards the end 😢😢😢. Nice one Squidge. Siya is our pride.
As a Springbok supporter, I was as excited for this video the past 6 months as I was for Chasing the Sun 2.. Appreciate that you guys were able to give us this after the final episode and making this an absolute emotional Sunday evening in Pretoria.. ❤️🙏🏼🥳

I’m South African… are we the best team ever? No. Are we fortunate to fight our way to victory? Yes. Am I proud of 32 amazing guys who achieved something amazing? Hell yes. What a privilege to see my men put their lives on the line to give SA something to be proud of 🍾
Greatest cheaters in WC history. Congrats

"Skullduggery" is a part of rugby that everyone does and SA did best on the night. Thanks Squidge, much love from NZ

I have been playing rugby in the Dubai for 5 years now since I watched South Africa win the World Cup in 2019. After never even being to sports for 20 years of my life , I saw what they did in Japan and said I want to know more about this culture and be apart of it. Living as a South African raised in a foreign country, I never understood the allure of the sport for a nation, which even when living abroad you can tell has bigger fish to fry. Rugby has remained the strongest glue for a lot of the community. Yes even in Dubai, South African’s stop whatever they may be doing and unite in to celebrate the hope that rugby brings to our country. Personally, I have gotten way fitter, made life long friends and after a couple of rugby induced injuries, I have earned so much more respect for the warriors that wear the green and gold. This video fully captures the importance of the Springboks team and makes me proud to be striving for success in my own path. All because of Siyamthanda. (Excuse the glazing but I am definitely naming my future child after this man.)
Beautiful story Mbusiso. #OneNation
We have 2 pug dogs, one named Siya, the other named Kolisi. Love that man and what he stands for.
Watched this the day you released it before the copyright strike and it was a thing of beauty Squidge. Your tribute to Siya at the end, highlighting how he ran to Cheslin first, was almost as emotional as the last 2 minutes of Chasing the Sun 2 Episode 4, and that's high praise because the Bongi bit in that had me in Really looking forward to watching this again, there isn't a rugby analyst (on youtube or on TV) who does it better.
That tribute to Siyamthanda Kolisi ❤❤❤
So sad that this video is re uploaded. It could have been on crazy numbers by now. Anyways one love 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦❤
Oh and Siya Kolisi, the greatest rugby of the captain of all time. Couldn't be prouder. We love you Siya!
McCaw over Siya any day
@@HemiJB91 as a player definitely, as a captain no
Siya is South Africa’s greatest captain of all time. That is only fact
@@HemiJB91 Don't forget to zip his pants up when you're done.
McCaw is better
That tackle from Kurt-Lee Arendse 👌 🔥 🔥 🔥.
is also the reason why DvdM would never ever have made the Springbok side. Not only did Arendse stop the deadly Ioane in the corner, but Chessie ran from the far side of the field to ensure that the ball went dead after the tackle.
@Karma-qt4ji Also, did you notice Cheslin was the tackler on the previous phase? Jumped up and covered all the way.
"Pieter Steph du Toit commits a murder for his friend and doesn't even need to hide the body because it completely evaporates on impact." 🤣
Best Rugby Analysis Channel on KZhead by some margin. Love the way you describe situations and your clear unbiased views and in depth tactical explanations and breakdowns. Keep it up🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏
This guy sees what no other analyst sees. Imagine if our school Rugby got this type of analysis infused to their play. Damn, we'd be beasts.
The humour, the deep analysis, the passion. Your videos are incredible and have afforded me a deeper appreciation for the sport! Keep up the good work!!
Absolutely amazing 👏 really love watching your videos ,and how big your rugby brain is ,what a tribute to the legend Siya Kholisi 🇿🇦🇿🇦
This video is why being a Squidge Patreon is worth every cent!
Squidge, I saw you at the stadium after the final. Made a video with you and said, " Sometimes we get it wrong but squidge always gets it right" Looking forward to your analysis. Way over due.
Thank you for an amazing rugby podcast. Thank you for honour the achievement of a remarkable human being, Siyamthanda Kolisi, the inspirational Springbok captain. May your great work continue and stay as brilliant as it is 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
A great way to end my Sunday. Siyabonga
Thank you a million times for going through everything to get this posted again. Every minute was worth it! Absolutely love the mix of the emotional heart strings and the hardline analytics. Rugby is beautifully both and that’s why I can’t stop watching. Cheers!
Missed this the first time so glad to see it now! What a beautiful video and analysis of the game. I think you’re spot on about how important Siya’s leadership is to the Springboks success, the trust and belief seems to give them that extra 1 point. As a NZ fan, I feel like that’s what we’ve missed since the Lions tour, and we’re only just starting to get back at the RWC. Ultimately, I think the things that set the greatest ever teams from the simply exceptional is that leadership based on respect and belief, rather than fear, resentment, or a feeling of destiny. That’s what sets Siya apart from Sam Cane, Owen Farrell, or Sextriangle - “rugby values” if you will.
I finally managed to purge this horrific loss from my memory and you just had to bring it up again.
SORRY
Sorry mate; here is another...
Thank you, Squidge. Just... thank you. I watched your 2019 World Cup final as well, and it's brought me to tears both times. THANK YOU.
Squidge. You're a bloody genius. Great analysis, and your last 10 minutes showing your understanding of this team and Siya Kolisi's role is remarkable. Thanks for all the content. Cheers!
This is tactical poetry of the highest order
A work of art! I always love the Squidge videos but this on the back of the original censoring by worldrugby, makes this so much sweeter with moving pictures :) As a South African I am really happy of course, but I have seen many interviews and podcast talking about Siya. This last minutes talking about Siya and his impact on not only this team, but his country and every person that sees him influence the craft, is magnificent. Thank you!!! I really hope you watched Chasing the Sun 2 and will give us your review on that as well? Thanks Gentlemen!
You are truly, spectacularly, unequivocally, the very best at this Squidge. absolutely love your work.
It was me. I got this to come back. My pleasure everyone.
World Rugby has to give it up for someone who can call the Leinster loss to the Lions!
For the absolutely perfect elogy on Siya Kolisi alone, just to hear that again, it was worth the wait to see that video, finally, again. Squidge is the best KZheadr in all of the Sports KZhead communities. Period. The BEST! No one comes close to his unique blend of incredible in depth analysis (and making it understandable, even for a relative novice to Rugby like me, which in itself is a huge accomplishment), an abundance of quips and all sorts of fun comments, as well as his capturing the emotional side of the sport. Quality in every way! Thank you!
This is a humbling, blockbusting, tear-jerking and pride-filling analysis Mr Squidge. Thank you.
This video needs to get to more than a million views
Brilliant! Thanks, Squidge. For bringing back so many great memories from the great game of Rugby! Much appreciated!
Fantastic to see this video up at last...! As always, a terrific effort from both of you. Thank you!🙏 And all the best going forwards...!
Brilliant video, my friend. Siya is my favorite sports figure and he likely will be for all time. A titan. A *kind* titan who leads by example and grace. I had tears in my eyes watching the post-game celebrations, the post-game interviews and well... this. Thanks as always.
I watched this just before you had to take it down...happy that you are finally able to showcase this masterpiece 🎉
you're absolute legends for dedicating this to Gareth Mason, again. thanks for bringing back some good memories. g-man, rip
The tribute to Siya was spectacular. He learnt all that it means to be a servant leader by following in the footsteps of his Lord.
So happy this is back up - was lucky to see it about 1 hour before it went offline in November - Thanks for the blood sweat and tears that went into making this, and getting it back online again
Squidge, that tribute to Siya had me in tears man! 😭😭
So good to see this video back up. That last bit has me choking up again and it really deserves to be seen by all rugby fans!!

This is one of the best videos ever. I’ve never seen a video of yours so I had no idea what I was getting myself into. The tribute to Kolisi was an awesome way to wrap it up

Thanks, guys. we appreciate all the work you both put into these videos.
Great piece of analysis and well written. I could hear your heartfelt emotion towards the end. Beautifully delivered Rob 😅
I'm a very PROUD South African ,no matter what we face in our country ❤🇿🇦
I think one thing this WC final and the WC in general really highlighted, is how insanely good Jesse Kriel is. Really an underappreciated player since he has had to share the pitch with Am. Would be a starting 13 in most other tier 1 teams.
Always better than Am
😂😂😂 yeah right@@Wolf-hh4rv
He was IMMENSE this world cup! Never seen him play this well!
@@shaungordon5104 he hasn’t been given the opportunity. Am is a play maker not the missile you need at 13. Not bashing Am, he is an exceptional rugby player.
We're fortunate to have both of them.
So good to see you back! Great job as always !👍
This video was worth waiting for, actually, worth watching again. Rugby is such an incredible sport and you help us, passionate veterans, understand it more where we think we knew what it was about. Job well done gents!!
Was so happy to Squidge on the Chasing the Sun documentary, finally getting some of the recognition he and his team so richly deserve. Thank You Guys.
I don't believe there is anyone who can be so bipartisan in their watching and analysis. As always, pure class, Squidge. Well done!
This is my single favorite content anywhere in the world. Simply incredible job. All of it. As usual.
Great videos Squidge! I really appreciate your analysis, your insight and plain old cleverness. More than that I love your passion for the game of rugby, and your compassion for everyone - winners, losers, match officials, anyone who has a tough moment in the game played at its highest level. The Springboks attract a lot of criticism - balance of probability they may deserve some of it - but they are probably are the team with the biggest heart. In November 2023 I had the opportunity to attend a business breakfast with the main speaker being Rassie Erasmus and he shared some behind the scenes moments and dialogue. Certainly a highlight for me. Keep up the great content - through your passion you ignite the same in others. Glad you were able to get this video out in the end. The world of rugby would have been poorer if this hadn't been the case.
What a vid man. Well done. If you are ever in SA you have thousands of springbok fans that will be happy to show you around and host you. Cheers boys. Lekker Bly.
NICE!!!!! finally we get to see this, thnx a lot guys
It's truly exceptional; the depth of insight is spot-on. The All Blacks played a stale game, and they were expecting the Boks to repeat their tactics
These videos are phenomenal. Thank you!
Thank you for another great video. Your videos change how everyone experiences the game, in such anpositive way. Wonderful.
I was looking forward for this video for 6 months. Worth every second of waiting, great job mate. Saludos desde Chile!

Incredible analysis. Wonderful job. Watched your videos in 2019 - loved them, and was not disappointed with 2023.
This was great to watch and revisit a fantastic final, glad to have finally managed to see it. Thanks again for all you do in educating the world on rugby (and its values)
Well done guys - just hooked into your channel, looked at your analysis - insightful- have forwarded your channel to other rugby mad peeps- looking forward to your insights in the upcoming int. Tests👍
Superlative work and effort in the face of idiocy, corporate bullishness and an utter lack of Understanding of what our game needs. Made sure I watched this asap just in case it was to be robbed from us again. Both of you are the Kolisi(s) of rugby journalism
Glad this vid is back, listened to it at work back last year. Finally got to saw it💪
Great video Gents! Thanks for all your efforts!
Always look forward to these videos !
I watched this the second it went live and now I'm watching it for a second time. Ive watched your recap of the first world cup when i have been down. You are amazing. Thanks for everything

Great to finally watch this video. Think I enjoyed this video more than I might have at the time of the original release, just time for it to all sink in and then get fresh reminders of what an epic tournament it was so many months later!
