Buffalo Throws Calf into the Air to Save It from Lions
2 lions catch a buffalo calf and take their time to kill it. They keep looking into the distance to see where the rest of the herd is. Eventually, the herd returns and one of the buffaloes tries to save the calf from the lion and throws it through the air in an attempt to scare the lion off. The calf survived and joined the herd. 🫢 Tinged by Matthew Durell. Send in your wildlife video here, and earn money: www.latestsightings.com/partn...

The buffaloes would be invulnerable if they were always together and didn't panic. This is a problem for all herbivores, they run away from predators in a panic, despite the fact that they are larger and stronger than these very predators. I have repeatedly seen how a buffalo effortlessly tossed an adult lioness into the air
A correct onservation. If prey species defended themselves intelligently, the predators would have a much tougher time trying to servive.
if they were smarter predators would cease to exist. god made everything balanced for the most part
They have different ways they defend themselves, sometimes they stampede sometimes they stay as a group to fight predators off. I think that there are sometimes mixed signals in the herd about which strategy they should use when
It's all in the mindset...great example for the humans too who haven't explored their potential yet ....
In sudden attacks if predators wounded them in vital point (lions try always bite them in back and tallons so buffalos Will be paralyzed and can't more move) their herd is forced to leave them anyway cause have to eat. They have not hospital or house with doors and provisions
The background clouds look amazing idk if it's nightfall or sunrise but it looks quite beautiful

It's heartwarming to see the maternal instincts of animals in action. This buffalo's quick thinking and bravery to save its calf from lions is a true testament to the bond between mother and child.
What makes you sure those buffalos were its mothers? I saw a couple of them try to save it, then a few of them lick it's wounds

Wasn't quick thinking though! Took ages to react!
That calf was as good as dead and the buffalos didn't save anything. That calf ended up in those lions's stomachs.

Wrong information. The buffaloes eyesight is not so good during the night, added to it the fact that the ranger' spotlight was in their eyes, blurring their view, ( human interference), the buffalo was trying to go for the lion. I've seen mother giraffes also finishing off their calves trying to kick the lion.
I'm surprised the calf survived and joined the herd like they say in the caption, because he looks almost dead
I'm surprised he wasn't stabbed by the horns.
It is definitely surprising and impressive that the calf was able to survive and rejoin the herd after such a traumatic attack by the lion. The calf certainly appeared lifeless in the moment, but the incredible resilience and strength of young animals in the wild should not be underestimated. It's a true testament to the power of nature and the incredible will to survive that exists within all living creatures.

They had strength in number but were still scared. Just like humans when one is bullied, the rest usually waits till someone else step up.
You make an interesting point. Despite having strength in numbers, the buffalo herd still showed signs of fear in the face of danger. This is not unlike human behavior, where individuals may be hesitant to take action in a threatening situation, especially if they feel outnumbered or at risk. However, the actions of the brave buffalo who stepped forward to protect their young demonstrate that even in the face of fear, there can be strength and courage in standing up for what is right. It's a powerful reminder that we can all do our part to support and protect those who are vulnerable or in need. Thank you for sharing your perspective on this topic.

Buffalo Throws Calf into the Air to Save It from Lions
This world has so much death & sadness. Nature feeds off nature from top to bottom. We are stuck being part of it.
Lion: This beef steak needs a bit of shake up! Buffalo: Hold my beer!
The bond between a mother buffalo and her calf is truly remarkable, as shown when the buffalo threw her calf into the air to save it from attacking lions.
How do you know it wasn't a male Buffalo?
Save? Fawkin thing is 80% dead and soon to be 100% dead
There's no special bond.
@@healthymealthy775 exactly
There were a few Buffalo. A few from the heard, who felt brave enough, decided to stand up to the lion. From the video, there is no way to know if one was the mother. It is likely, but even prey animals try to help eagh other, save each other, and protect all young of their herd from predators. They use team work. There really are not "single mothers" with animals that live in groups. Esp for herbavoires that are prey to apex predators and obligate carnivores. It would be way too dangerous. There is safety in numbers. And lions, as the most social cats esp understand and appreciate this. This is why all of this was posturing. The male lion was NOT, unless very hungry and/or desperate, would engage in full on combat with more than one Buffalo. Predators want easy prey (that is why they target vulnerable targets who are separated from the herd, or the lionesses separate one, and lions ambush ususpecting prey in brush, and why predators will target the young, old, or sick. They dont actually want to fight for their food because that, a fight and the longer the fight goes on, the more chance if injury and in the wild, even à minor injury could mean death. It could make them a target and/or what would they do with a broken jaw or injured tongue and they can't eat? animals do not do anything to be cruel. Nothing is done without reason. And usually prey animals panic and run from predators, but now and then, one or more sill stand up to the predator(s). But even herbivores and even very young animals and very old animals, will ALWAYS fight for their life. No matter how scared. Animal behavior has been formed and refined and developed thru thousands of years of evolution based on what increases the chances of survivng as long as possible. That is why even "prey animals" often live in large groups, and can run VERY fast. They dont have the teeth or claws of meat-eaters but they have things like horns, strength, size, and speed, powerful legs, etc. Running is such an instinctive survival move, but because it just reminds predators of the behavior of their natural prey, running from a predator is the worst thing you can do. You can see how the dynamic is different when the prey animals, still with more back up than the predator has, stand their ground. If you make an animal feel trapped, they will feel threatened and fight back, aggressively, desperately, and to the death. If you give them a way out, another option, they usually take it. (Again, unless they are desperate and hungry). With VERY rare exceptions (like lions and hyenas with each other) animals never kill for no reason or attack for no reason. Never out of hate or just to be cruel. They just want to survive for as long as possible. Humans still have these instincts, but are much less understood because we created a different world, à much safer world, (though has its own problems) that has been so separated from nature and the wild that most humans have forgotten just what it means to have to fight for survival everyday. What it means to face your mortality every day. What it means to truly be desperate. Thisbis why early humans and paganism had a very different world view than when established, organized religion came along and created a much more black and white world view. Paganism was inspired by and followed natural order of things, the earth's cycles. The antelope was not seen as "good" because it ate grass and the lion was not viewed as "bad" because it HAS to eat other animals to live. Nature has its way and it is that way for a reason and there is a balance to it all. Animals still live in that world. And humans, doing things as they are, interferring with them and taking up their habitat (and lots more), is literally wiping them and the whole planet out. Lions, due to habitat loss and hunting, their population has dropped 50% in the last 20 years and is now down to there only being around 23,000 lions left. And that will drop another 50% in the next 50 years experts say. And losing entire species significantly impacts and hurts the planet. And humans dont have to cause so much harm and destruction to survive. There is a kinder way to live.
Wow, that was incredibly to see. I bet your heart was thumping
Not really I see this all the time
@@BoskiM How fortunate and blessed you are to see this animal behavior.
