Kimchi stew is one of the most-loved of all the stews in Korean cuisine. It’s a warm, hearty, spicy, savory, delicious dish that pretty much everyone loves. As long as they can handle spicy food, I never met a person who didn’t like kimchi-jjigae.

I’ve been making this recipe since it first came out and it has never failed me yet. Thank you so much, Maangchi! 🤩
Happy to hear that!
_I love it how she doesn't like to waste things, she always tells me to keep it, and use it for another day. I'm grateful for that._
I think it's because food is so expensive and precious to korean people she learnt how to use everything. My mom taught me that as well
Honey Suckle same lol
Honey Suck
Honey Suck
I agree. Most KZhead cooks wasted a lot of food cause their excuse was they are recording so they need to be quick. Hello.... Never heard of editing?? It really kills me slightly to see how they wasted a lot of precious food just like that.
4 years ago and still replying to messages, what greatness
She even liked and pinned my message on one of her youtube video from 7 years ago. Maangchi is ❤️
Still reigns true today!
Waiting for her to reply to yours
@@yellowcrocus She seems like a sweet woman, got me into korean food, thanks lady !
Maangchi should be given a medal for her contribution to promote and enhance our love of korean cuisines. Idk how many times I recreate your recipes, and everything turns out so good! Thank you Maangchi. I rarely write a comment, but for Maangchi, i'll spare my time to write bunch of comments ans click all of the like buttons ❤
I'm very happy to hear that you make delicious Korean dishes with my recipes! Good luck!
@@Maangchi, we love you❣️
I totally support that ! I have learned all my Korean dishes from her channel :)
Just made this for the first time last night. My boyfriend asked me if it was possible to send you messages somehow because he wanted me to tell you he loved the jjigae. He said that he had been missing Korean food since he hasn’t had it in a while & his mom used to make this all the time when he was growing up. It was my first time not just making it but eating it. Wasn’t sure if I’d like it but I loved it. It was really good & extremely flavorful. I used my well fermented kimchi that I made following a few of your videos. I couldn’t find pork shoulder so I subbed it for country style pork ribs & I used chicken stock. I can see myself making it again. He also is addicted to the kimchi pancakes lol. He constantly asks me to make them for him.
I'm so happy to hear that you bf loved your kimchi jjigae! It sounds like you are also getting into Korean food! Cheers!
He is lucky to have someone care for his favorite foods while growing up. Nothing touches a heart better than home cooking.
I finally got around to making this today for my family. It turned out far better than I could have imagined. It was soooo delicious. All five of my kids loved it too, and they typically don't like food that's too spicy. I got a few comments like "Dad, for my birthday, will you make this again?". THANK YOU Maangchi.
kiimchi stew on birthday, why not! : ) Glad to hear that your children loved your kimchi jjigae!
I hope you how much of a godsend you are to foreigners living alone in korea who do not know what they’re doing (me!). The amount of times i randomly hear something like “yeah i basically depend on maangchi to survive”
👍
Maangchi, I made this exact recipe and I was FLOORED. This was TOO delicious, I couldn't stop smiling while eating! I actually ate the entire pot (does this pot serve 4 people?) As a black person, this is my new soul food. I am so happy, and this is the best thing to eat in this freezing winter.
👏 : ) Happy cooking!
Damn, okay! Gotta try it then

There's a recipe link in the description 😉
Frances Cabugao there is but this is more convenient since you can read the recipe while watching the video! So this is really helpful!
Petrina L THANK-YOU SO MUCH Btw I did a screenshot!
Holy crap THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS AHH
You da best! Thank you for this!!
i was literally crying about something before i watched this video and this brought me a bit of joy. your happiness when you cook shines through and i feel it everytime i watch you. thanks for making me a bit happier tonight!
+Alicia Stage Thank you for your nice message here! You make me happy. You are awesome!
I spent 2 years in South Korea, in Ulsan and this was one of my favourite dish. I made it now following this video and I don't believe that I was able to cook it myself and taste exactly as I loved in Korea. Thanks a lot, brilliant recipe.
Sounds great!
I’ve been watching you since I was in 4th grade and now I am in college Maangchi ! Your videos are so therapeutic :)
Wow, thank you!
Me too lol this is where I learned to make gyeranjjim when I was 13
I have made this recipe so many times, I already know how to make it without following the video😁 I'm so proud of myself. Thank you for sharing all these delicious recipes with us.
Great 👍
everybody loves Maangchi. How can someone not love this video? Impossible. This is great!
+krnewman Thank you!
Oh my gosh, this is insanely delicious! I made it pretty much according to the recipe. I didn't have large dried anchovies, but only medium sized ones so used 10 instead of 7. The layers of different flavors combined with just the right amount of heat made it the perfect meal tonight on a cold, wet evening. Thank you for your ever sunny disposition and providing such wonderful recipes. I even made it with your traditional kimchi recipe!
Great! Congratulations! 👏
The anchovies are for the extra umami flavor on the broth.. so in my opinion you could maybe replace it with msg.
I made this today and this is the best kimchi soup I’ve ever tasted (: I usually don’t drink kimchi soups because the restaurants where I live don’t make it as good. I highly recommend it!! Thank you so much maangchi!!
Awesome! Happy cooking!

Usted es la mejor ❤️❤️
I made my first batch of homemade kimchi. (Never even had kimchi besides what I could get in an American supermarket). Definitely making this with it. The flavor in my kimchi is out of this world
Great!
My Korean boyfriend recently moved to my country to be with me after two years of long distance relationship. Today is his birthday and the first time he spends it away from his family and friends. I wanted to make him feel at home, so I prepared your seaweed soup for breakfast and this kimchi jjiggae for lunch. He lit up when he tried them. Thank you Maangchi ❤️
You are so adorable!
Maangchi, thank you so very very much for uploading this video. I have been watching you for years! I live around 2800 miles away from my sister and mother. We try to see each other every year. In between our visits, we both cook your recipes on the same day and send each other photos of our creations. It has really helped when I've been homesick. Your kimchi jjigae was the first recipe my mother and I did together, and it is still my number one favorite. Thank you so much Maangchi. Your cooking brings joy to my heart!
+Nana "we both cook your recipes on the same day and send each other photos of our creations." Awesome idea! : ) You guys really love cooking!
I don't like sharing all 4 servings for me
+Nana Kim haha,
Sameeee
Now i understand that ads so important for youtuber. I m not skip this channel ads for all the recipe shes share. Thku
❤️
Dear Maangchi, yesterday I made this and I used meatballs (mixed ground pork and beef) instead of pork neck. It was sooooo delicious. Your the Korean chef I recommend to all my friends. Love from Germany
Sounds delicious!
I followed this video and it was so delicious. I added enoki mushrooms ^_^ thank you for the tutorial
Wonderful!
Just made this with no pork/meat (but extra tofu) and it was soooooooo good!!! Perfect for a snowy Canadian night :) Thank you for sharing, learning so much about korean food from you!
Sounds great!
I learnt all Korean dishes from you ❤ Thank you so much for your constant effort since years!!!!
👍 Happ cooking!
@@Maangchi Thank you 😭❤
I made my own kimchi following your recipe a couple of days ago, and today I made kimchi-jjigae with mixed mushrooms instead of pork. It was very tasty! Besides your amazing recipes, I want to thank you for being such a positive force in my life, Maangchi! You always manage to cheer me up, regardless of how bad I'm feeling. :)
Congratulations! You made this with your own homemade kimchi!
I started getting sinus congestion the other day. I made this with extra chili flakes, no more sinus problems! It had a very comforting taste, like how people talk about chicken soup being comforting. I loved it. I think this will be a new staple for cold season. As a side note, I'm from Michigan and grew up with very non-spicy food. I assumed I didn't like spicy food then I had kimchi for the first time in March. Apparently my spice tolerance is through the roof! My husband looks at me like I'm crazy as I happily eat Tteokbokki. I got your newest cook book for my birthday in May and I've been having a great time trying out new things.
Great news! : ) Continued good luck with your Korean cooking!
Her videos are so well paced like I’m making everything and not having to skip a bunch of talking she’s right to the point and A SWEETHEART love the video
I attempted kimchi jjigae a while back (but failed ?), and remade it again using your recipe. My Korean boyfriend said that he was blown away! He doubted that I could do it, but I sure showed him! haha Thanks so much for your video! :)
👏
I did this last week for the entire fam of 6 everyone loves it and today we are making even more ! Thanks for this tutorial 😁😁 we enjoyed our stay home dinner a lot
So glad!
I wish I could be the whole library of dvds from all these clips. You make the most amazing Korean dishes, better than the Korean cookbooks that I got from Korea (more tasty and easier to follow). Thanks for sharing such great recipes.
I really love this recipe! Just tried making this today, I used beef stock instead of anchovies, and it worked great too! My family loved it! Thank you for sharing this Maangchi, Kimchi Jigae is my favourite Korean dish btw 🤩
Sounds great!
I have followed your instruction and my soup turned out great. My bf was soo happy and said we should get married 😅
"My bf was soo happy and said we should get married " Happy to hear that! : )
Maangchi! I am from Kenya 🇰🇪! I made this for my Korean fiancé and he loved it! Thank you! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ 💗
Wonderful!
Lucky man.
Winnie Kim Thank you 😊
Annyeonghaseyo Bella. I am from Kenya as well and I was looking for the best places to purchase some of this stuff. Particularly Clams and mussels for jjampong since everything else I can get at Carrefour. Mind sharing where you purchase your products?
That is Awesome Maangchi!.. You would be proud of me.... I made my first Kimchi three days ago and it is Awesome! Thanks for all the wonderful recipes... ! :)

Maangchi can u make some kind of drink ?
I am not Korean but love Korean food for the varieties of spices and flavors. It's my #1 food of choice. I had traveled so far in the past to find a Korean restaurant since we moved to New England. I don't have to anymore as I enjoy cooking. With your youtube recipes, I made Korean kimchi and kimchi jjigae...oh my! It's so satisfying and tasted so good. Thank you so much. And yes, don't anybody throw away kimchi juice/brine. You could do a lot with it.
My whole family love kimchi ever since i keep making it 5yrs ago. Today too, i will do this soup because it so cold in here. Thank you Maangchi for this great recipe 🙆🏻♀❤ I keep calling you as my chef imo to my family. Now they also watch your videos when they craving for kimchi 😆
👍
Tried this recipe but used chicken stock instead! This dish was absolutely delicious! 10/10 👌 Thanks Maangchi ♡
👏
I tried making this tonight and my family were all over the food. Thank you for this!!
👏
When she tastes it, she sounds so genuine about how delicious it is
Made this for the first time last week following your recipe and I could not believe how delicious it was! My man was blown away too! I will be making this everytime I have aged kimchi. Oh my goodness I cannot wait until I can make more. Thank you so much for your wonderful video. I will be following more of your recipes now 👍😁
Great! Continued success with your Korean cooking!
This is next level amazing. I’m literally in heaven. I need to find those containers you had for the kimchi. I haven’t seen anything like that anywhere. Thank you so much for this recipe.
I really love how maangchi executes her confidence, " When I cook it everybody loves it" 👌😘
저는 지금 한국에 살아 있는데 이 KZhead 채널을 보고 남자친구에게 김치찌게 그리고 다른 음식도 만들어요, 이 KZhead 채널을 진짜 진짜 따봉💜💜
I couldnt find kelp but I used dried seaweed and it turned out to be still good 😍 I took small breaks from work and went to the kitchen again and again to eat it. Every advice Maangchi gave is true! Pork with small fat and skin is most delicious in this!!
This is exactly the taste from that restaurant run by Koreans a few blocks from my home back then 🧡
Thank you dear Maangchi! Aah! love the sounds and powerful images of these videos so MUCH! It is all medicine for the soul. Your love of food and people and culture comes through loud and clear and spreads the joy!
Greek caption is available now! One of my viewers Sofia Anna translated it for our Greek speaking viewers! Awesome!
This recipe is absolutely hands down. Ever since I found this recipe, my kimchi stew has been super delicious. I usually add more vegetables like mushrooms, bean sprouts, enoki mushrooms and shirataki noodle (more like Japanese kimchi nabe). Maangchi, I can’t appreciate you enough for sharing this recipe! I’ve been enjoying cooking Korean food since I found you. It’s just so much fun and every time I follow your recipe it hits the spot! Thank you for this amazing recipe, Maangchi!:)
Wonderful!
Maangchi, I finally made this tonight! It was very good. Since I know that I like savory kimchi jigae I halved the sugar, just to try it out. It came out a little sweet for me, and a little spicy! I think it was the brand of gochujang I used. Next time, I'll leave out the sugar and halve the gochujang! A little extra salt and water still helped fix this batch to my taste :) Such an easy recipe. Also I could not get any kelp or radish so I used a half teaspoon of hon dashi and a tablespoon of beef concentrate. Delicious!
Wonderful! Continued good luck with your Korean cooking!
Happy cooking!
You always make the best recipes. I love your kimchi and this is even better.
I’ve made kimchi jjigae hundreds of times. For some reason, every time I crave it, I come to your video to watch and torture myself 😂 kimchi jjigae is life. Love your recipes!
recently i have a cold, and I don't like soup or tea. but my cousin's grandma always makes kimchi jjigae and it's DELICIOUS! she's korean, makes it all from scratch, and of course grandma's food is the best food. i hear kimchi is good for health too. a perfect dish for my sickness :D
Vietnamese caption was updated by one of my viewers! Thank you!
I recently made like 3 pounds of kimchi and discovered that I don't actually like it lol. But I also discovered that it's delicious when it's cooked so I've been putting it in ramen, making kimchi pancakes and now I'll try this. I'm sure it'll be delicious.
Ah yeah it's like eating a raw vegetable vs a cooked vegetable, I prefer it cooked too. It really changes the dynamic of its flavor and softens the texture.
Grilled kimchi with BBQ is good too.
Guys, turns out, it was an acquired taste lol and I really love it now, in all it’s forms 😂 i actually crave it sometimes.
@@shakeandbaik yeah! My younger brother always love cucumber kimchi since he was little. But he doesn't like cabbage kimchi at all. He likes crunchy, but he likes cooked kimchi as well!
Don't forget kimchi rice, I could eat a whole pan by myself. 😋
Dear Maangchi, just discovered your channel (and yes! I have since subscribed to it 😍😍😍) Love how proud you are with sharing your recipes and how passionate you are while preparing & cooking it! ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you so much!!! 🥰🥰🥰

Just finished cooking 김치 찌개 and it taste good and delicious!😋
👏 Awesome!
Thank you for making this tutorial, it was very delicious and I was able to cook this since I left home who I miss my mother's korean cooking. It was very healing during winters and sick days.
👏
hi maangchi! i hope you are well these days. i tried this recipe with a few changes based on what i had at home and it tasted so so amazing! i absolutely loved it. i enjoy korean cuisines and this 김치 찌개 is heavenly on a rainy day. what i did that was different from yours is that instead of boiling anchovies, daikon and kelp, i diluted one anchovy stock cube in water. my store bought kimchi didn't have much brine unfortunately but that's okay! i also used beef instead of pork. i want to try this again but with pork next time. thank you so much maangchi! 😍
👏
thank you for your presentation. and you know im filipino and i cook every saturday in korean church here in the philippines. everytime i choose your dish and i cooked it they like it very.much. they said how did u cooked like korean. i said maanghanchi in.you tube . kkkkk. 캄사합니다
wow, awesome! : )
Coming home yet?
pwde makatikim ng luto nyo
I made this today. I substituted the pork with oyster mushrooms. Absolutely delicious.
Wonderful!
I’ll have to say, the stew taste best when you have the right kimchi. I’m lucky that where I live, there’s a Korean grocery store nearby. I always buy the homemade kimchi there and it’s way better than the store bought kimchi brands.
I always follow your recipes Maangchi. It's so easy and you also give alternative recipes. In fact, I followed the recipe of your japchae, kimchi radish and cabbage, kimbap. And now Im planning to follow your kimchi jjiggae recipe.
Great 👍
I have eight month old kimchi in my fridge (my fridge is just above freezing so it's still delicious), perfect for kimchi jjigae. I always make a huge amount. Tomorrow I will make some and then I will be almost out of kimchi and it will be time to make more!
Good aged kimchi is like two three year old, you can keep it in the fridge but you can also store it old school like my mum in a cool dry play away from sunlight, remember to make it airtight
Kk Hi Hi Uh Uh Hi Hey Uh Hi In
I learned how to make kimchi, kimchi jjigae, and spicy korean fried chicken from you, maangchi!! I posted my kimchi jjigae pic on your web.. thank you!!
This kimchi-jjigae tastes better than what our local Korean resteraunts offer legit, our whole family enjoyed my cooking today thanks to you!
She has great recipes
She’s so cute and real 🥰❤️ thank you for making these recipe videos and sharing Korean cuisine knowledge
I love maangchi! She's absolutely adorable and her cooking is fantastic!

Hello, my Hungarian viewers! Someone uploaded Hungarian caption for you guys. Let's thank her or him! : )
This is now my husband’s favourite dish! I cook it almost weekly. 😂 thanks, Maangchi ❤
👏
I remember the first time I ever tried to make kimchi jjigae and my Korean friends didn't mention I needed to add kimchi brine. The look on their faces when they ate my final product! haha! But, I wonder, 1/4 cup seems small? I've used quite a bit more since I made that early mistake, lol. I guess you can just add it to taste?
What I would give to spend a day cooking and eating with you Maangchi! I will be making your traditional kimchi next weekend! I always watch your videos when I'm feeling down and you always put a smile on my face, thank you for all that you do 😊
Maangchi, I'm in college right now and I'm missing homemade korean food so much but watching your videos helps me survive thank you!
+jisooom Good luck with your cooking and studying!
I made this recipe today and made my friends (who have never tried Korean food) try some, now i'm making it again tomorrow because they all want some to take home, mission accomplished
Mission completed! Awesome! ; )
I am so excited to make and eat this! I was watching tzuyang eat it and had to learn how to make it myself. Thank you lovely Maangchi!!! You are a blessing.
.....and kimchi-brine is one of the best ingredients for soup one can imagine! I could drink it, no joke!
That's right! : )
Im literally running to the store right now to make this! I'll update when I am done! :)

I finally made this last night and it was so scrumptious! I wasn't sure if my husband would be into it, but he loved it. Since I didn't have any meat or tofu on hand, I threw in mushrooms and frozen shrimp instead and it turned out great. Thank you so much for your wonderful recipes and encouraging nature, Maangchi!
