The Disney film Raya and the Last Dragon was released simultaneously in theaters and on Disney+, and like most recent Disney films, there are plenty of things that adults and kids alike will enjoy. Kids will love the fantastical creatures, as well as the sweet character moments, but there will also be some things that will likely fly over their heads. From the backstory that feels right out of a religious text to the possible subtext in the relationship between Raya and Namaari, let’s take a look at some things that only adults notice in Raya and the Last Dragon.

I feel like not only adults caught on to Raya's and Namaari 's potentially romantic relationship, I watched this with my nephew who is 5, and even he saw something besides friendship.
It’s honestly quite sad how adults see kids as dumb and unable to pick up on stuff like complex themes when that’s not always (mostly???) not the case
I’m young, and I still thought they weren’t just friends.
What hints were there to show more than a friendship bewtween the two? I honestly didn't see any hints of romance.
@@MrLedify "Dep la" means "strangely beautiful" in Vietnamese. That's the most literal example.

Disney is really getting better at cgi now. The hair, the graphics and clothing too! Tangeld was their most expensive project but this looks like the most expensive. Definitely gonna watch this movie, the trailers are so good
Idk I don’t really like the new animation seems to real
I’m not sure if it was cgi or not but the graphics looked spectacular and the movie cost around 100 million to make but since it’s so good they have already made half of that money back from just a couple of weeks of it being out

I had a problem with Namaari not even asking forgiveness for what she has done and gaslighting Raya a little(
I never liked her since the beginning, she was playing the victim😕
@@jilljillysillybilly i mean she is s victim by her mom but yeah she should've apologize
Yeah I'm a little worried about the moral kids might take away from this movie with Namaari causing trauma to Raya and then gaslighting her about it later and Raya somehow decides to trust her after multiple backstabbings to "take the high ground"
yeah, I agree. The whole theme of forgiveness could've been handled better if Namaari admitted that she was wrong, apologized and tried to help without having an ulterior motive
"A little." They were never friends. And yeah, blindly forgiving the most toxic person in your life, even if she never shown any remorse or said sorry.
I guess, stone people raise their hands, because it was Pengu's last act when he gave to Sisu dragon stone. Admit,it's similar
Pengu’s last act was to give Sisu the gem, before being petrified.
Damn never noticed that
I thought that it was trust, often symbolised by giving or receiving a gift, was the only thing capable of fighting the Drun. Therefore, when the Drun takes people's souls, the last thing he could take was their capacity to trust each other. So the stone people raise their hand to show that the last thing left into them before they were petrified was their capacity to trust, the thing the Drun has the most difficult to obtain and thus takes last.
But that doesn't make any sense, because from the flashback when we were first introduced to the purple cloud thingy, it showed them turning somebody to Stone with their hands raised *before* the magic stone was created
I interpreted it as offering their souls to the druun that it may be used for their own gain, which makes them multiply and become stronger.
My interpretation about why the rest of the tribes didn’t go looking for Sisu was that they found it too dangerous to do so. They’ve already lost a lot of their people and the only read way to deflect the enemy (unless you’re fully surrounded by water) is if you have a piece of the gem, which most don’t. Raya does have a gem piece though. That’s just my personal take though.
They mean why not go looking for the in the whole 500 year period, or since whenever the myth that she's still alive was born. Also, it seems that later on, it only took Raya a few days, weeks at most to travel between all the countries by boat seeking the gems, but why before it took her 6 years to go to all 9 branches of the river?
@@meganesenpai yeah, I saw those flaws in the movie. It feels like there is a missing piece in the 6 years of searching. Kumandra is not big enough for her to search for it that long. There were also not a lot of water sources in the scroll she stole from Fang. However, this can be tolerated because she only stole the scroll 6 months before she met Sisu as mentioned in the movie, but there should be clues to what she's actually been doing the last 5 & 1/2 years - instead of just searching. Moreover, I dont believe that all of Hart population were turned into stone, so maybe Raya was with them the entire time as they were her subjects. I also think that Chief Virana should be given more screentime in the movie as she actually became a villain towards the end of the movie, but then again, maybe the director thought the scene where she gave the gem piece to Namari was unnecessary and time wasting.
@@meganesenpai I think it was because in the 500 year period the people probably fell into a false sense of security, and also probably thought that the dragon still being alive was just a myth. They probably didn't think they needed it because as long as the gemstone was safe, they were safe from the Drunn returning. And just like with everything, they didn't learn from the past so they ended up repeating it.
Because they don't know where to find the dragon because they thought that sisu sleeping on the end of the river is just a legend.
@@meganesenpaithey mentioned in the beginning there were hundreds of river endings, and that was also a reason why they didn't go look for sisu in the 500 years. I'm also thinking that in those six years, she had to figure out how to survive and/or take care of her people.
The father is super confused when he was awakened from stone. LOL!
It was like watching Night At the Museum all over again.
ikr he was like 😳 Uh what
tbh I would be too, the last thing I saw was my daughter falling into the water, blacking out and then waking up to see the same daughter who is now in her 20s.
@@javis88h I think Raya is 18. Looking from her past, when she’s a child. She looks about 12. And it’s said to have passed 6 years, so I believe she would be 18. I dunno.
@@xpepelee Still that's a mad long time lol
I found the scene where boon gives his piece turns to stone so emotional. I also found it strange that instead of transforming to the placting cup form, he remains hugging raya. As do the others, as if there trust forms a literal stone like bond.
The movie was great, nearly cried but I think it was bit rushed.

@Anonymous Empire I wouldn’t mind watching the movie for 3 or 4 hours. It was just amazing

The main thing that confused me about the movie is how its consistently shown that stone victims are forced into the same pose, so how come everyone (but raya) chose their pose when they willingly were taken? And dont say it's a willingness thing because Raya's dad gave himself up too but still was forced into that pose.
If you notice the dragons don’t freeze in that offering position and I think it’s because they willingly sacrificed themselves for the good of others (as all the heros at the end did) so they already “offered” something. If that makes sense?
@@imthegabrielleg what about Raya’s father? He sacrificed himself for her
Maybe cuz they were holding on to something?
I think its because they were the ones destined to destroy the drunes. Their trust and determination to destroy the drunes overcame the strength of the pose. I assume
I think it has to do with trust, the dragons trust each other and sacrificed themselves to save everyone, raya trusted namari and namari her which could lead to them being able to fight the pose, but rayas father did yes save his daughter but I don’t think he truly trusted her or believed she’d make it out alive even after she was thrown in the water, that’s my theory
Maybe other people didn't search for it because Disney wanted to indicate here how truly a heart works because Raya is from the heart part of kumandra, it's emotional, trusts anyone blindly, and when it's scared with betrayal it tries hard to not trust anyone, so yeah basically DISNEY indicated how truly our heart functions emotionally
What’s a heart
@@quantwo2100 well their regions in the film, did you see it the first place?😂😂
I can actually answer a few of this things. 1.) Raya told Namari it was Sisu knowing full well Namari wouldnt trust her word. As namari is the first person Raya trusted other then her father and that trust was betrayed. 2.) the clans stayed apart because they got what they wanted a piece of dragon magic and were more interested in protecting their piece then collecting more. This also means that other then fang they had no idea raya was collecting gem pieces. Also everyone believed heart was destroyed. 3.) the overall plot in this movie and avengers end game is a popular plot line used in fables fairy tales and legends so its common to see it through out media and pop culture every now and then. 4.) if look at the surrounding on rayas journey you see remains of stone people caravans and rubbish showing that people did search for Sisu and just never succeeded. And 5.) Most legends leave out big chunks or change important bits as they are told by survivors not wanting to show or admit fault so it make since people would not tell how the druin really came to be.
I did not see any romantic intrested quite the opposite you can tell Raya was carrying trauma from the backstabbing from Namari, I honestly feel it had more to do with forgiving than anything which I personally didn't like because you don't have to forgive those who cause trauma in your life especially since Nimari never said sorry but pretty much gaslighted her telling her it was Raya fault for not trusting like your the reason she has trust issues lol

@@jilljillysillybilly Actually implying an open ended ship like that is pretty dangerous if you think about it. Seeing how toxic Namaari was
Well she has a point. Literature is a form of art and people interpret the art differently based on their perspective.
The religious symbolism is really significant. Most of the"nations" in the film are artistic interpretations of ancient cultures that worshipped dragons in some form.
Another thing that bothered me about the ending was when I thought about food. Think about, mass farming was likely impossible in most places due to the dru. So when everyone comes back there would likely be a famine that would last a couple years until farming started up again (just wanted to bring it up because they make it out to be a happy ending but in reality it would be much more difficult. I would have enjoyed seeing them do more world building by exploring setting up trade routes and building relations so that the famine would not be so sever and shared equally).
The dragons probably take care of that. ;)

sisu didn't had the chance to touch fang's gem, anyone curious what was the power it has???
Probably none, Sisu's 4 siblings were the only other dragons who put their powers into the dragon gem. She got all 4 powers from the other gems. It might contain her power tho, but she said her power was being a strong swimmer, and she showed it so there's no need. For those people who are confused of what power contains by Fang's gem piece, its the power of Sisu, the moment Sisu slained by the arrow, the waters dried and the gem pieces almost lost it's power. The bottomline is, Sisu have a correlation in the dragon gem.😊
See, I just wanted this video to be raya x namari shipping
Honestly though, same
Did the other dragons choose Sisu because she was the water spirit and humanity's only defense against the Drune? In the event that she failed she would still be alive and that's what mattered.
The dragons as a whole didn't choose Sisu, her brothers and sisters did. All the other dragons were gone when Pengu created the dragon gem on a whim because he "refused to accept defeat" as Sisu said. Her family's trust in her with the gem and their magic just happened to be a successful last ditch effort to defeat the druun.

I did not see any romance. Is it THAT uncommon for girls/ women to have shared interests and hobbies without being romantically attracted to each other?!?! Why not bring up that the two emerging rival leaders, who both loves their tribe and would do anything for their tribe, were able to set aside their differences and work together. Everything else is also overthinking.
I have to agree.
I just thought that since it was about Trusting each other, it could have been explored and executed better if it was a series. The scenes of the characters were just them "being together", no strong bond was shown.
Yeah, a big consensus I've noticed about this movie is that it seemed rushed and would have been better as a series and I agree
Yeah! I think the concept for this movie was amazing (I mean as amazing as a kids movie gets) but it needed a lot of development. I think if it was a series there would be more time to explore how Namaari and Raya could come to trust each other, maybe have an apology and a work towards forgiveness, without it seeming rushed and insincere like it did in the movie. I would like to see a show or even comic come out of it.
I don’t think it was rushed. I think they did that on purpose. This looks like crisis and trauma response. Sometimes you don’t have a lot of time to develop things. Especially in crisis. Sometimes you have to make split decisions and have faith In that decision. You have to trust people you don’t know or don’t like because your back is against the wall. Sometimes those decisions bite you in the butt and sometimes those decisions save people. Many couples and friendships have developed in crisis situations. People have an odd way of bonding during trauma.
@@p0rnany0ne yeah but even for that it seemed a bit rushed.

Welp, they failed at not creating the romantic feeling anyways
I don't believe Raya actually found Sisu. If Raya hadn't prayed, Sisu probably wouldn't have appeared anyway. Raya could have prayed at any place with water, but she wasn't desperate enough to do it before. I don't think everybody knew about the legend of Sisu's body being downstream. Raya didn't know until Namaari told her so. But it probably wasn't a true story anyway. Other people may have looked before, but they just wouldn't have found Sisu because they wouldn't have prayed with sincerty in their heart if they were looking out for their own interests. Even Raya only had this sincerity because of her father.

To me this movie has a lot of similarities with how Equestria from MLP is founded. From the episode "Hearth's Warming Eve". There is the main antagonist being created from the distrust, arguments, and then in the end a few of them get together, trusted and stayed together, then peace was restored. In general it was similar.

None, she has no power and the only Gems are part of her sibling's and what we saw was it.
The last gem didn't really have any power, per se. Sisu had already gotten her siblings' powers from their respective pieces of the gem. That last piece of the gem is Sisu's piece and she already mentioned that her power is strong swimming. However, she was already a strong swimmer to begin with so that piece of the gem most likely wouldn't really do anything or give her any new power.

The baby stayed a baby for 6 years since the gem's fragmentation?
Druuns have been roaming the land again for the last 6 years. Talons people were living safely on the waters. Even with all the thief and crime, it would be safe enough to have a baby, without having to run away from Druun every night. In the movie since we saw the leader of Talon almost killed Sisu by tossing her outside the gates towards the Druun. During that scene we also saw all the other statues out there, implying that they were all of the Talons leaders victims, my best guess is maybe Noi’s parents were tossed out there too at some point. Leaving her orphaned.
yeah that's a much bigger plot hole with the baby, they needned to flesh that out, an explanation could be it happened recently and maybe her parents we're con artist's being from where they were and she had already learnt the helpless baby routine from them, so in the less than a year that they were gone she was using what her parents taught her, with cartoon logic this would work, but instead you either have to presume something like this yourself or just accept and enjoy the con baby.
I think you do see the parents come back in from outside that gate, or at the very least a pair of statues stood as a couple, but it's a subtle detail to explain, that her parents were most likely recent victims of the new talon leader i think Kpautin94 hit the nail on the head, with why the baby is still a baby.
Nope, after gem was broken, Druun roams everyday during the time of 6 years, Noi-baby parents are likely petrified less than a year before she met raya
@@shellamuchtar3661 their village was on the water, unless they left the safety of it they would of been fine..
I more like remembered the movie Final Fantasy the Spirits Within when they turned into stones.
I think the reasons that no one else was hunting gem pieces are: 1) Raya had the means to do it, ie, already being in possession of one of the pieces 2) People in the other kingdoms had a gem piece, so they were protected and there was no reason to venture outside of their own kingdom. The leaders were happy to look after their own and if one of the citizens had wanted to look for the other pieces then they would have had to steal the gem piece from their kingdom first which they probably couldn’t have done. 3) Not as big of a reason as lots of people probably had this too but Raya had the motivation to do it as well
Finalmente um vídeo inglês que consegui entender por causa das legendas kkkkkkkk I'm from Brazil
This movie was literally Infinity stones saga + Wizard of Oz with the recruitment along the way
And a bit of she-ra (2018)
And trolls 2- with the strings
ngl it takes all the fun away when ya analyze it this much good observation tho
Is it just me, but I feel a big plot hole in the movie is that the Druun are repelled by water and the dragon Pangu could make it rain... like that couldn't have been a tactic to fight the druun instead of becoming stone.
Call me crazy but... I think powers of the Dragon could be limited. Not only in "what they can do" (like make it rain but no other things) but also in how much and how long they can do it. In other words: that wouldn't really be lasting strategy...
Me sees the video Me: (click the video) Me again: oh sh*t i haven't watch the movie yet By the way im from S.E.A ( South East Asia )
I noticed everything here except the potential relationship thing, tbh it grazed my mind but I thought it would seem very toxic. Considering the fact that even though they saved the world together it will still take a very long time for Raya to trust Namaari, especially since the betrayal happened when she was 10. Many people fail to realize that your mentality is based off experience no matter what age, and though the relationship could work there would be some lingering issues that would eventually break it apart. With all honesty even though its a soft fan theory I think there relationship would be best if they just stayed friends.
I noticed Sho'Nuff wasn't in this movie. "It's skinny little lizards like you, thinkin' they the last dragon that gives kung fu a bad name."
The belief that Noi couldn't exist in real life shows that you've never heard of The Jungle Book, a book/film based on real life event of a child raised by animals which is something that has happened numerous times in real life.
It's so easy to know if Sisu is transformed or not cuz of her hair color
Shes like elsa 🤔🤔🤔
"do you trust me?" "i do"
When a Star Wars robot was mm reimagined and more useful :)
Kumandra is a bleak world and I love that it's addressed about as well as it can be in a PG movie. Makes the world of The Last Airbender look idyllic by comparison.
At first I really noticed the plot is like how Thanos wiped out the half of the Universe, then how hulk Blipped everyone who has snapped
Why can't people just watch a movie without dissecting it
Because it's interesting to do that
@@nigerianbrownie and ruin it for others by pointing out he smallest things
@@brandonconnellan1533 No, it's just them pointing out small details that make the movie shine.
I think the reason the other tribes didn’t go looking for more gem pieces is because they remember what happened to heart. An entire people turned to stone in an instant. I don’t think many would want to have the lives of another tribe on their conscious. Also more importantly, to travel between places you would need to have a stone or you would die from the drune. No one would willingly leave their town with the stone 1 as a saftey net for the town from the drune and 2 to keep their own position of power in the town. They could hire underlings to get the stones from another town but they are unlikely to survive the trip with so many drune. Remember that only watery places are kind of safe. Day or night the drune are there.
I want moreeeeeeee!!!!! 😁
Honestly a lot of lgbtq members saw the possible relationship I’m under 16 and I saw it instantly
Request a medal then
I have a question; if the orb before it was broken could restore the humans from stone, but not the dragons, why does it then when the orb is fixed, it brings back the dragons?
There was still discord amongst the people. It took people from the tribes coming together to free the dragons.
The gem part namaari also wanted to get the gem and also her mother but they wanted to keep it
This was like a backwards "everything wrong with." Made some good points too.
7:24 That purple kinda clashes for me...or is it the texture?🤔 Anyone else find it distracting?
Historically purple has always been a rare color for people to make and to show it on a tribe like this kind of takes away the immersion a little bit, I mean where are all the lavender or purple flowers then if you've been stuck in a river town since the druun attacked
Her name It's in our National Anthem Song INDONESIA RAYA. Best Disney Princess that represents all South East Asia. Thanks Disney.
