Is there anything better than a heart-warming happy ending? We loved seeing the dragons come back to life and everyone living happily ever after, but it turns out there was an alternate ending that didn’t turn out so well for the dragons. That’s right… Sisu nearly was the actual last dragon! We’ll be covering the details of why they wound up choosing the ending they did and what the darker ending would have meant for the story!
Raya and the Last Dragon is definitely not the only Disney flick that had the possibility or a tragic end - cue Frozen 2. Do you know about the alternate ending that almost saw Elsa gone forever? We’ve got the scoop. While we’re on the topic of Frozen 2, we need to acknowledge how many similarities there are between it and the latest Disney content! Is it just us, or does Sisu give off some MAJOR Else vibes? Water based powers, blue glows, even the same graceful moves across water pads… coincidence? We think not.
While there hasn’t been confirmation of this alternate ending, the idea of Raya and Namaari getting together is definitely on all of our minds. There are quite a few hints and even Kelly Marie Tran - the actress who plays Raya - has said that she was rooting for the two of them to end up together! While Disney has never featured an explicitly queer character before, there is a chance we could see the first gay couple on screen if there is a sequel for Raya and the Last Dragon… something we are definitely hoping for!

This movie is so amazing!!!!! Raya is based on a Southeast Asian tradition and I believe this is the first ever movie that is like based on an Asian tradition it's really amazing to see all of that come to life in this Disney movie 🙄😯☺️❤️❤️

It's just that Disney never actually showcased real LGBTQ representation in an animated movie of theirs. Especially when it comes to princesses and main characters. They actually *always* focused on the friendship aspect of things as far as same sex characters go, which isn't something bad. I am the kind of person who sees friends as family and really treasures the idea of friendship and what it stands for. But Raya and Namaari have a certain kind of chemistry that could give Disney the opportunity to expand their horizons and give the LGBTQ community the representation they deserve as well. And not only that, because, again, showcasing queer characters isn't just for those who are also gay/trans/bi etc , but for everyone. To spread awareness. I for one wouldn't have rooted so much for the "Raya x Namaari" ship if they didn't have such a complex relationship. Namaari is Raya's character foil in a way, and they are rather intrigued by eachoder from the start. This isn't about wanting more, or not appreciating their friendship, and not even about representation only, it's about the potential these two have and how well they mix toghether. About how the characters could develop through an enhanced relationship. I feel like we didn't have time to explore them enough individually either if you think about it which is why I'd rather have a TV series than a sequel
I agree I get it, lgbt representation is need but at the end of the day if it isn’t in the movie then the immediate shipping for a kids movie by adults is creepy at best. Give Disney time I’m sure there gonna make something, it’s a kids movie, let it be a kids movie without it being political.
Sisu being staying dead would have been a far better lesson for humans to learn how to live with each other without the need for dragons

It was a great ending, but I wouldn’t call the ending “original.” Other Disney characters, like Elsa and Anna, froze until plot came around to save them. Different groups came together as one at the end, similar to Trolls World Tour.
Sisu made me laugh and inspired. Her wisdom is good.. Raya and Namari, yah, there is this tension between them that its hard to ignore..

I think what's really weird is a lot of LGBT people still consider the word "queer" as s a slur. Many of us remember having been called that before being assaulted or threatened. What's really strange here is that there's an implication that the word you're actually looking for is lesbian. Why would you replace it with queer? It is not a catch all term and also isn't a term all of us identity with. If someone SAYS they identify with that perhaps it is more appropriate for them specifically but I would be slow to refer to a lesbian, gay, bi or pan person as queer. Also as a reminder queer actually means odd, strange weird. There ISN'T anything weird about your sexual identity being different then cis.

OMG! Can we ALL just agree that whether it be bakunawa or naga or whatever your country's version of the water dragon is, THEY ALL inspired the creation of Sisu. There are so many Filipino, Thai, Cambodian, Vietnamese, Malaysian, etc. ANIMATORS and CREATIVES working for Disney....they wanted to UNIFY our cultures...not bicker over it... I kind of wish they had the guts to do the alternate ending. Or and ending where even though the dragons come back, sisu cannot be revived as she died succumbing to her wounds. As much as I love Sisu, it would have send a powerful message that somethings just can’t be undone. It also would have made the scene where the gang decides to trust namari more meaningful and powerful. But sadly, this is a kids movie. 😅
Thank God everyone survived and now live in harmony. Although I do wish to see Raya and Namari again exploring their lesbian relationship.

Actually technically Raya did it by using the whip sword on on Namaari’s crossbow.
It made no sense to bring sisu back. The other dragons had been turned to stone, and all creatures turned to stone came back. Sisu was shot and killed. The only reason she would come back to life is to have a sugar coated white washed happy disny ending

Hey miss, the reason south asians talks about their siblings alot is because south asians DEEP GRATITUDE OR UTANG NA LOOB as we call it here, is so valued. Try going to the philippines, cambodia, thailand or indonesia. Youll see why sisou or siso (her name means balance in filipino) keep talking about her siblings and bragging her skills. I think I like this alternate ending better than the film’s ending.
and first time i agree with someone saying this (actually second but i think arendell's shouldhave broken but ELSA SHOULD NOT HAVE DIED.), and when shishu "died" i felt like they were going to bring them back, not because its disney but because lack of emotions, like where when elsa dies anna sings the next right thing, even though we know she will come back because disney we know and understand when anna feels hopeless. And with sishu gone, all we could see was anger in raya, which is fair but not fair enough.

I think we should look at this part were already in a dark time I don't think every movie should have a dark ending and I don't think they should do that with Disney especially it being directed at kids I mean make the really dark endings for the adults.
@@asmiaryal3942 In a scriptwriting POV, it makes sense for Sisu to die, her death pushes all the main characters to make some form of decision. It didn't make sense for Sisu to have a resurrection which wasn't set up earlier. I feel like if disney were to introduce the original 1994 Lion King for the first time, they will resurrect Mufasa abruptly in the 3rd act.

I choose this movie as my new personal favourite. Why?! 1. No attention to love/relationship 2. No singing scenes like "Frozen" otherwise Maui: If you start singing, I'm gonna puke 3. Beautiful environment songs that happens to be emotional 4. Character design are awesome. Especially Chief Benja, Dang Hai and the Spine chief Downvotes: 1. Dragons are a metapher, just like the monsters. Dragons are unity, friendship, peace, love, their magic is what humans can reach when they work together - the montsers are hatred, distrust, violence, war - the destruction humans cause when they fight each other. The reason the dragons stayed stone the first time was that humans weren't united - they had a ceasefire at best. They didn't directly kill each other, but they also didn't trust each other and while no open war, they still were in constant struggle. When this escalated - the monster came back.

Namaari does have the stereotypical more masculine lesbian vibes but I don’t think it’s a good idea for two characters, who were formally abusive to each other, to start a romantic relationship. If there’s a sequel she should get a new girl and just remain friends with Raya. Just my opinion though, sure many will disagree. Btw obviously there’s nothing wrong with masculine women, it just feels a little on the nose here.

I think they should end up together since they clearly trust each other at the end. Life isn't all stars and rainbow, sometimes people fight and then realise that they actually care for each other. Im ngl but when namaari betrayed raya, she actually looked like she enjoyed it, just saying.
If you are referring to when they were kids, Namaari did it because her mother told her to and she thought it'd be good for Fang (because the other tribes thought dragon gem=prosperity). Plus, the entire friendship was part of the scheme (so Raya could warm up to her and tell her stuff), so she wasn't supposed to mean it in the first place so it shouldn't feel like a betrayal (to Namaari).

I think since both of namaari's and raya's parents are single parents they might be together in the second movie which might explain the multiple re-writes in the meeting part to make sure they make an instant sibling like connection

I just came back from watching this movie
I would have preferred it if the ending was darker. But it‘s a kid‘s movie
I think if Sisu stayed dead it would be a much *much* more impactful for the movie and could set up for a sequel
