In their current string of high concept fantasy films meant to represent various real life cultures, Disney have now set their sights on South Asia with their latest film, Raya and the Last Dragon, recently released on Disney Plus via premiere access, and in theaters where possible.
As the story of a young warrior princess who loses her father to an ancient conflict between the warring lands of her world and seeks the Last Dragon to set the world right once more, Raya is helmed by a cast and crew considering largely of women and Asian-Americans, in a move unlike much DIsney has done before. And with as big a task as to pay tribute to as many cultures from an underrepresented part on the world at hand, along with Disney’s general reputation for attention to detail, there are a lot of interesting facts to cover when it comes to Raya. Be it aspects of the production in a world struggling through a Pandemic, changes to the premise over time or simply little ways it lets its cultural influence be known, there is a vast amount of trivia and easter eggs to find in this high-flying martial arts adventure.
And so we have. Watch and enjoy as we take you through the 25 Things in Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon that you just might have missed on your first watch.

He knew about the 25 facts you missed in Raya and the last dragon, but he didn't know it's southeast asian.
And he did not know that Mexico is north America either, he repeated the other mistake more, but it just shows that he just doesn't know geography
Neither did he know that Raya was a name given by an Indonesian and that it also means "grand"
He's surely an American
South Asia is where in india, Sri Lanka etc. locted. Which are different from Southeast Asia where Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar,Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Brunei, The Philippines and Timor leste located.
Idk im just crying throughout the movie, from raya’s ba turning into a stone scene to her making the first step in trusting namaari 😭❤️
Well I cried the whole night after I watched that
@@tiffanytan3487 😀😅
Same
Weird but true fact: I developed a crush on Raya 🙄
After watching the movie
Glad I'm not the only one here losing life points every time he says "SOuth AsiA".
Right I was going to call disney.
If it's in South Asia why is he wrong? It's less specific but still correct
@@silentj624 because south Asia and South east Asia are different from each other geographically and in terms of ethno-cultural terms as well. In South Asia, we have awesome countries like India, pakistan, nepal, and bhutan In south EAST asia, we have the countries mostly belonging to ASEAN and of course, the SOUTH EAST region of asia. These countries are: the Philippines, Singapore, Myranmar, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Timor Leste, Brunei, Thailand and Vietnam

It makes me cringe every time he says “South asian” this movie is based on Southeast Asian culture! Not South!!
Yeah, I was so bothered hearing this
Same here
As an SEAsian myself, felt so disturbed each time I heard "south Asian"
Someone need to do fact check smh
I agree. He is So incompetent.
It's South East Asia. South Asia is the Indian Peninsula countries (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, etc.)
Thank you!! Haha I was about to comment this!
Sisu's sister Prani's name is Bangladeshi! The Bengali word 'Prani' means animal and guess what? Prani can Shapeshift!!! They used both South Asia and South-East Asia, as Bangladesh is exactly beside Myanmar
@@tz.rahman Sanskrit and Pali languages influenced Southeast Asia. That's why.
Prani is also a Thai word, but the meaning is "kindness" which is not as close to the personality.
@@tz.rahman it's mostly representing SE Asia. And I'm pretty sure bangladeshi has a sanskrit lineage as does thai, laotin, khmer and burmese(I think)
I cringed every time “South Asian”, instead of "Southeast Asian", is mentioned. Sorry but kindly research carefully before making a content, the movie is based on Southeast Asian culture, not South Asia.
Same I'm a little triggered cuz I'm a Filipino
@@seorinto I'm a Filipino too 🇵🇭
My country isn't even considered much aside from the fact that there's racial harmony here, but I'm still triggered >:(

I'm Malay and when I watched this for the first time I was like...why does this remind me of back home?
Cos you can see pieces of SEA cultures you're familiar of such as canting for batik painting, durian, keris, wayang, banana leaves, not to mention some gamelan in its background music.
Same I am half Indonesian and I was like damn this movie is it
When Rays says to remind her to never have kids, I thought, I think that’s the first time I’ve heard in a Disney movie.
"No asian countries can watch this because they dont have disney plus." Me: i live in bangkok and just watched it tonight at the theater because every theater is open... 🤣🤣 And it does have thai subbed and dubbed both.

I have watched Raya 4 times in theaters. I didnt thought i would be amazed, but boy i was wrong. I have grown watching every Disney movie and Raya is definitely one of the best Disney movie of all time. Everything is on point. The characters are so badass especially Raya and Namaari. Sisu the dragon is so beautiful and funny. No Sisu dont look like Elsa, you should stop watching furries. The soundtrack is magical, and the visuals is so breathtaking. I just love everything and watching this movie really made me happy. Definitely wanting a SEQUEL!
Agreed, simply the best. I too would want a sequel.
I agree
Add the best action scenes it was very intense and breathtaking!

Hey fun fact Philippines have this mythical creature/dragon named Bakunawa which is probably one of the inspiration of sizu
Yes
FUN FACT. Indonesia and the Philippines both interacted with each other centuries ago. Thus, they exchanged cultures which resulted in a lot of mythical similarities which means the BAKUNAWA and the NAGA are the SAME. (Just had different names).
Fun Fact, ALL Southeast Asians understand the concept of the Panya Nak, aka Naga.
Why so pressed with my comment when i didn't claim anything. I said "probably" and "one of". Obviously i didn't know about your culture's version but what i know is my culture's version that's why I'm sharing it. Don't get mad about this. Let's be friends 😊

Just one little correction, you said Dante went from South America to South East Asia, when Mexico is actually North America.
Lmao

I saw it in Taiwan when it was released. I loved it! I travel to South East Asia a lot and it was like going back to Thailand, The Philippines, Vietnam, and Singapore.
Since last year, movie theaters have been back open again in many South EAST Asian countries due to how well they have managed the pandemic. This is not the US.

hahahahaaahahahahaahahahahahhahahahahah
He also doesn't know his filmography. He literally said Black Cauldron was the only other non-musical disney film. Big Hero 6 and Wreck it Ralph: Am I a joke to you?
Mexico is NOT part of South or even Central America. It’s North America.
the more you know...
Central America IS North America. It is geopolitically part of the North American continent. The only point where it differs geologically is when you cross onto the Caribbean plate, over which the majority of Central American countries sit.
Yeah, only the upcoming movie Encanto actually takes place in South America
Hello racism! Why you must rear your ugly head? We know not
please tell me you noticed how human form sisu is the spitting image of aquafina? 💖 i mean, how could anyone miss that?!?!
Made me remember in south sumatera province of indonesia, there is a legend fairy tale about a girl and her green dragon brother. It's one of my favorite local story.
You missed the small lizard that Tuk tuk chased in the beginning of the movie. Watch the movement, its the Fire Spirit Lizard from Frozen 2. Look how it jumps away legs spread the exact same way as the Frozen counterpart.
I caught one. There was a foreshadowing where Raya could find the Last Dragon. When Namaari first showed the map to Raya, Tuktuk stood on top of the edge of the map where Raya found Sisu in a wreck ship
Raya and the last dragon is one of my most favorite movies now
C’mon Screen Rant, please do your research! South Asian is VERY different from Southeast Asian! Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, Myanmar, Vietnam are SOUTHEAST ASIAN! Also, the whole idea of water is not an influence from Avatar: The Last Airbender/The Legend of Korra! In Raya, the dragons are inspired by “nagas” which are equivalent to dragons in Southeast Asian culture. Nagas live in the water and are have magical water abilities. THAT’s why Sisu is a water dragon. Also why Sisu and her fellow dragons have the curved horn and beard - a distinct trait of nagas. Also, young Raya’s outfit is NOT a riff off of Korra’s. It’s actually based on the clothing from the Ayutthaya period. When she’s in the palace, she wears a “sbai” which was commonly worn as royal fashions in Thailand (called Siam at the time) and Cambodia. So again, please do your research, man!
Both movies use a wrecked ship and water. So Disney's decades old practice of reusing a plot device is now considered an Easter egg.
1:10 "Sisu" the water dragon was inspired by the Filipino mythology Naga/ Bakunawa that can control rain (water) and is to be said that it ate moons
Lol! The water dragon is base in Thailand/Laos, know your fact!!!
Lol, it's in whole Asian story tales, so let's not claim it. It means that we are from the same root.
@@Hahahaha_777 Lol know your fact first. Nagas exist in South and Southeast Asian myths. So it's not limited to Thailand/Laos/The Philippines.
Him: "péñçkák ßîlët style" Me: "PENCAK SILAT ANJIM-" Him: "Indonesian dangers called 'krïß'" Me: " KERIS WOE KERIS BUKAN KRÏS 😭😭"
Keris dalam bahasa inggeris adalah kris🤦
FYI... It is not South Asia but SOUTH EAST ASIA---where sea people live and majority has a dark/brown colored skin! Thailand Myanmar Vietnam Laos Cambodia Philippines Indonesia Malaysia SOUTH ASIA: India EAST ASIA: China, South/North korea, Japan
I thought India is part of SEA?
@@hanhan6073 India is not part of southeast asian countries.. South Asia countries namely be: India, Bangladesh, Pakistan
Well technically most have dark colored skin because they’re usually outside all day, I’m cambodian and I was born with light skin and my skin is dark now because I’m usually outside.
The “nop” in Laos Is actually pronounced like “nope” and I think the one in Raya is representing the moon not sun. Now bring on the pitch meeting, this video is wrong in so many ways.
We have the film shown in theaters in Thailand already, with Thai voice dubbed.
Oh, please. It's both Malaysia and Indonesia. We shared cultures.
And brunei
i dont mind if we're sharing cultures, but still each culture has origin story and deep meaning on it.
He missed the obvious resemblance between Sisu and her VA Awkwafina
8:30 FYI México isn’t in South America lol
Beat me to it.
Exactly
LOL
I was wondering if they added a post-credits scene so I sat through all the credits (while eating some pho, of course, don't ever sit through credits without having some food to eat while waiting) and seeing the part that said "Dude, you're still on mute" made it so worthwhile!
This movie was Disney and ASEAN's jab against DreamWorks/Pearl Studios' Abominable and their controversial Nine-Dash Line scene, which insulted China's Southeast neighbors, then banned it.
Awkwafina also looks like Sisu as a human.
I appreciate a good Easter egg but that definitely is not Dante lol
In the scene when Sisu gets her brother Pengu’s power of rain when it ends you can see something in the tree get wet then get fins JUST LIKE IN LUCA
This movie is damn good.. Disney has improved so much
When i tried viola my friend said i look like her...so i looked into it...i love this movie so much...we'll still watch it with my bf soon...kudos to the mind behind this movie....so heart warming...
Excellent of you to mention the traditional Martial Arts: Eskrima-Kali-Arnis, Silat, Muay Thai (& Bokator). Close on the pronunciations
The movie is in theaters. The local ones where I live are showing it.
"Have you been following the news" I'm still cracking up
The film released in cinemas and Imax theatres here in Thailand two weeks ago where I watched it... so no blunder there... wonderful to see it on the big screen.

I would LOVE a pitch meeting for Raya!
I knew most of these. I love Disney 💗
The hand greeting also makes the shape of shisues crystal ball thing
It’s Southeast Asia not South Asia!!
Thanks, really cool video and loved the film!
Disney’s Atlantis is also among those Disney movies with no musical numbers in it
I just realized that when sisu runs on the rain, it's like dust stepping from the rise of kyoshi. Poor Lek.
We got to watch it on the big screen in the cinema here in Vietnam as Covid is under control here. I was fantastic. Loved it. If you get the opportunity later to watch it in the cinema - go for it!
I'm Indonesian and when I watched the movie, I was shocked because it rlly looks like keris!🤣 then i watch this video, oh the sword is inspired by keris... 😂 Btw in 6:00 it's not "pancake silat", it's "pencak silat" read: penjaak
I really like the movie, when the dragon had a plan; she got to a castel then she said"Wanna save the world. All it needs is one gem. " so funny!
We want it as soon as possible
That dog was not Dante, it’s Bolt
Love this movie
Mexico is not South America. Coco is based in Mexico. Raya is a greatly thoughtful movie.
This movie was so good
4:20 yah.. Its so darn lovable new disney princess animal sidekick. It may name refer for the Thailand local ride. "Tuk-tuk" or "Tok-Tok" also locally use here in philippines bisaya, for "knocking" or the sound of it when knocking.

For those 3.2K likes, Raya is influenced by South-Est Asia not South Asia. You might be wrong. Also, you miss one, Noy mean little or small in Thai or Noy noy is an expression form Cambodian commun uses. They said Noy Noy when they want a little kid to dance.

Raya and the last dragon should have been a series instead of a movie
There is Heihei in Talon Market ;)
If I remember correctly, the "whip function" of the sword is exists irl on this model =)
Why is no one saying they got the title wrong? It’s Raya and the Last Dragon, not Raya and the Dragon.
Okay but i think after 13 times of watching this it was imposible for me not to notice lol
Atlantis also has no songs
I am a little confused. How would I have missed, during my first watch, that the VA for Raya was supposed to be someone else?
Where can we watch this ik on Disney but anyplace it’s for free cuz rn in the uk we have to 20 pounds to watch now or wait till June 20
