In this video, we test if a bullet or cannonball can be curved around a person by making a vest completely out of metal tubes.

Also, we ALWAYS extensively clean the areas we film at and leave them significantly less littered than how we found them. We understand that even a small amount of litter can accumulate so we all have a role to play in ensuring that these spots remain intact for future plinkers to enjoy. Please keep nature beautiful and junk free - it's a principle we adhere to without exception. Do your part, spread the word, and lead by example. Don’t ruin it ;)

  • Your tests with the rifle against the wiggly pipe reminded me of a video I saw the other day about the StG 44 barrel attachment used during World War 2 called; The Krummlauf. It was basically just a slight curved barrel that allowed troops to shoot around corners or over walls, etc, but because of the bend was only able to be used for roughly 100 rounds and turned the rifle more into a shotgun-esque shrapnel spread.

    @EthanEW@EthanEW Жыл бұрын
    • Interestingly there were originally four types of this twisted barrel, but only the smallest bend was used as all others would break within a few hundred shots, were extremely inaccurate, and like you said they were basically worse shotguns. Even then the one that was used was very limited due to the same problems.

      @leflamewolf@leflamewolf Жыл бұрын
    • @@leflamewolf Yep. Israel fixed this problem by using a mechanical system to aim around corners with a pistol. The front end can be bent around a corner with a pistol on it while you hold it like a rifle. Then, when you pull the trigger, it sends a signal to the lever attached to the pistol trigger, causing it to fire. Pretty neat way to avoid the curved barrel and shrapnel problem.

  • So yeah, kevlar, the primary component of bullet-resistant material, is particularly bad with subsonic piercing damage like a knife or, idk, a crossbow bolt. You can cut kevlar with scissors, but it resists bullets because it acts similar to a non-Newtonian fluid where it becomes rigid with heavy impacts, but remains soft and malleable as slower impacts and it's specifically des for bullets which have a VERY high impact compared to something like a swing knife or even a crossbow bolt. But in a standard bullet-resistant vest (bulletproof is a lie, nothing is bulletproof), there's typically ceramic plates inside along with the kevlar and other materials that would divert those slower moving objects, albeit only once per plate and they're significantly heavier.

  • @RyanKung I'm curious, on the gun, what if the muzzle was asymmetrical, like a massive (long) bevel (like on a needle), could you possible "curve" the bullet trajectory by doing the arm motion like in the movie because the bottom of the muzzle break would be touching the bullet coming out? would you have enough time with the swing and bullet exiting to slightly bump & change the trajectory? With a full round barrel, the pressure and force is the same on all sides until the exit, so the motion does nothing. But maybe a bezel can.

  • I just bought a 3 pack Black FN Pen 2.0, LA420410740. I would like to see a glass bead armored vest tested to see if glass beads could work similar to ceramic armor. The beads would need to be encapsulated in some way so they offer complete coverage without gaps. To hold the beads in place they could be stitched between two layers of kevlar and two layers of stitched glass beads would be overlapped to fill in the gaps where a single layer of beads meet. The glass beads would serve two purposes. First, a hard material that absorbs energy when shattering. Second, causing some deflection due to the round beads. Possibly three layers would be needed.
