I built a bench top multi-vice to use for carving and shaving work. Long-dried oak wood became a strong and convenient vise. This vise will serve in my shop for a long time and be passed down to the next generation. I believe it is possible.

  • Das ist wirklich sehr schön geworden!!! 👍 Trotzdem möchte ich anmerken, ich hätte unten das Basisholz deutlich dicker gewählt, damit man das Holz der Führungen deutlich dicker hätte ausführen können. Aber solange nichts abbricht, geht es natürlich auch so! Hätte da aber auf Dauer halt bedenken. 🤷‍♂️ Ansonsten aber wie gesagt sehr schön geworden! 👍

  • Yeah that's pretty special! The dog hole screw attachment is a personal favourite feature, closely followed by the leather inlaid handle. Worth every minute spent making it!

  • @Carpentak I love the fact you mostly used hand tools for old school build! I'm sure some hamster would love to romp through the oak shavings! (Not sure about the African rosewood). Such gorgeous grain in the different woods! Looks like there was enough size left in the oak cut outs you could easily make into dog pegs or use them for wedges on something. Can you please tell me what you call the planers used after 9:30 & 17 minute marks? I've never seen them before...that curved one looks particularly useful!

  • Incredibly beautiful! I have 2 questions I hope you’ll answer for me. 1. Why did you make the top of the vice narrower? Wouldn’t a wider gripping area be better for you? 2. Why did you include an anvil area on your wooden vice? Will it be strong enough to take the kind of pounding it is often used for? Thank you so much! You really did an incredible job!!

    • thank you This is my answer to your question. 1. This vise does not require a large grip area. It is mainly for holding small pieces and there is enough grip area for that. There are advantages to creating the vise mouth like this. This shape allows me to use a carving knife or wood file more deeply. It seems a bit difficult to explain in words. It also has the advantage of being good for fixing work diagonally. 2. The anvil part is not intended to support blows. It secures the overall structure of the vise and prevents wood chips from getting caught in the screw. It also serves as a handle when moving. I also place my carving knife on it while I'm working.
