Bonjour à tous, this week at the château.
Terry finds a beautiful mirror for above the mantle in the grand salon, but unfortunately the beautiful wood work had been painted over, so the long work of stripes it back and waxing it has to be done.
After getting the beautiful mirror back to how it once looked Terry adds the finishing touches with a little gilding to enhance the details, but finds it is not a easy job to do.
Plus, we get a lovely surprise delivered to the château 🥰

ABOUT US,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.

Oh dear, another chateau adventure to follow, I just found you and WOW...I loved when you said a 'Shabby Chic' look and Christmas, I was reminded of Chateau de Gudanes and their adventure...I had a 100 yo farmhouse in Iowa that had walls like this that I had pealed paper off of and what a statement it made, most would prefer painted walls, but I rather enjoyed the rustic beauty...my evenings are spent now watching your past videos to catch up. I'm 72 and I'm still working like a slave to my home, like your mum, and I'm enjoying every moment...keep up this grand adventure!

The grand salon is starting to really look amazing even if it is just shabby chic. It's the small things that make the difference and Terry you do that very well. The mirror is stunning, I love old wood with just wax, such a beautiful colour. The garland is beautiful and looks lovely on Tracy’s mantlepiece. Xmas in the salon is going to be lovely with the ‘shabby’ under the Xmas decor in the firelight with the tree twinkling. I’m in Australia and our Christmas’s are nothing like yours. Terry dont scare me saying you wont be doing it again any time soon...you have done a beautiful job...I'm renovating a 20's curved glass cabinate and down the middle inside is a curved ft wide piece I'm going to gold leaf...you are so patient...I hope I'm half as patient as mine needs to go in my hallway as it's been decorated art deco style...

I love the play between you all, if Terry and Ash were car controls, Terry would be the accelerator and Ash would be the brake! I laughed when Ash said we don’t have heating hot water or electrics but we have a mirror! I was impressed how the window repairs went, a great saving on new ones. I suppose us in uk don’t always realise how the sea keeps us warmer than the continent in winter. Nice job with the gold on the mirror. Hands down the best gilding work I've seen. I admit to being apprehensive when you mentioned it, concerned that it would be gaudy, but it's the complete opposite.
What a wonderful gift from Miss Murray, it looked very professional to me and such a kind thoughtful gift. Exactly what Christmas is all about. The mirror restoration was a joy to watch and so relaxing with the music. I had asked if we could see some of your work so I was over the moon to see this. It is stunning, a beautiful sensitive restoration. Far nicer than the white paint. I’ve had to pause at this point to go to work but I’m saving the rest as my reward for writing a chapter of my dissertation to motivate me.
The gold leaf completely transformed the mirror it looks beautiful.
You may want to invest in a dental pick to get those bits of paint and plaster out of the cracks and tight edges. They are great tools when removing paint or the like. Mirror looks stunning.

I can see the thunder, lightening and wind blowing hard as Terry hangs on to his life and shutter in the storm. Where were the Château bats flying around his head Andy nipping at his ears?
