Bonjour à tous,
Its a grey cold day at the château so Terry and Ash decided to take a little drive around the french countryside and have a little stop off and walk around. About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

  • I discovered your channel last week, am absolutely absorbed in watching it. I find it all so interesting, the grandeur even presently is amazing in the château. The cottage as well has so much character and unbelievable how a year of hard work has been transforming it. Your an amazing family together, each with so much humour which adds to your videos. The 12 days of Christmas was perfect and so deserved. Wanted to add a comment after watching the tour of the other 2 Château’s. I appreciated it so much your sharing the history along with the tour. Amazing job Ash with the narration. Will continue to watch the remaining videos then look forward to your weekly shares. Cheers to you all

  • Wow that 14th century castle was beautiful. I have an idea 💡 on the face of the balustrade squares you could find moulds of both your last initials and make cement letters and adhere them on the fronts. Your personal touch. I know Ash would love that “just” 🤣🤣🤣🤣

  • As I have just finished this episode of your journey, (I’m rewatching them in chronological order this time,) I have tell you that, as a 67 year old retired RN, in Operating Rooms for over 35 years, I could sit down, finally, and binge watch your videos for days at a time. Oh, wait. I already DO that. 😂😂😂😂 I enjoy each, and every episode, regardless of the content. You are all, as a family, such an inspiration to others, not just for your DIY, but also, the love you SHOW each other, daily. The way you are all teaching Jonathan how to do things, how to become a responsible young man is heartwarming. Thank you for all of the hard work you put in each, and every day. Watching you from Mexico City.

    • If....by chance...you two decide to come visit the American mid-west, you'd be most welcome to visit and stay at my "chateau"...sort of. It's a 5500 square feet brick house built in the mid-19th century. I.'ve lived here for 44 years and spent most of my time and money restoring and maintaining this home. I think I know how you both feel about rescuing a piece of history and preserving it for future generations to enjoy. Thank you both and your family for sacrificing so much. Cheers!

  • Glad you mentioned the dogs, LOVE it when you dig a hole and Patrick has to show you how you have to do it properly. His entire body dives in there, snout first then his little legs get going! 😂😂❤️ But the episode that brought tears to my eyes was when you brought electricity to the cottage and went upstairs, Tracy commented on. Some dirt on the stairs...”Little Louis has been on a walk” and you showed a clip of him outside in his tartan coat walking through puddles, very determined on a grey day, checking out his turf. 😘😘😘

  • Thank you for taking us on this adventure. It never fails to amaze me how many of these incredible buildings there are in France - I often wonder what the French think of all the people from other nations that come and buy them up and take on the overwhelming task of restoring them. But it is only a drop in the bucket relative to the ones that are slowly dying. I am following Dan Preston, former gardener and still sometime helper at Chateau de LaLande, and owner of his own channel Escape to Rural France. He has taken on an absolute ruin not far from LaLande. His chateau was destroyed by fire - no roof, no floors and trees growing out of the top. His early drone footage had me saying "Dan you need your head read". But only a few months later, with the help of the great Nick the Tree Surgeon of LaLande fame, he has cleared the forest from inside and close to the chateau. In the last couple of weeks they have cleared much of the rubble from inside the building and revealed an incredible tiled floor so beautiful and almost intact that it takes your breath away. I am in my 70's and I hope I live long enough to see what Dan achieves with the place........and with so many of the others like yours that I follow. So inspirational, so brave all of you and I wish I was 20 years younger so I could come and help! Good luck to you all.

How wonderful the second chateau is being spared and is being brought back to life. It looks more like what I envision a castle looking like. Patrick is such a spunky baby, loves his digging. • Seeing the old ruins of chateau or any once magnificent building always makes me a bit melancholy. I think of all the hands forming each piece of stone and what it may have been like in its heyday. It’s sad that so many have fallen yet as a world, yet we are so fortunate that many remain and that there are people like you with a love and respect for history and beautiful things who find the drive to keep those that remain whole. On another note, Patrick’s coat is beautiful! He’s so shiny! Obviously well taken care of and loved. Another great video!❤️

  • Really enjoyed tagging along with you. The first chateau must have been magnificent in its day (although probably never a particularly comfortable place to live!) After surviving so many centuries, sad that it seems to have fallen into ruin only in the last century or so. Your filming was very evocative. Only Terry could/would rope you into dismantling a balustrade in someone's backyard! But your plans for it are brilliant. Your chateau must be feeling very smug that she has lured your family to her rescue!

Certainly wearing eye protection when chipping is super important. You could wear mountain bike glasses which are easy to wear but will protect your eyes. They feel more like sunglasses as opposed to protection goggles. I thought Tracy should be wearing some PPE when she was sending the bathroom wall. That find dust can't be good for her to inhale. Keep up the great work guys

It’s unbelievable the work and master craftsmanship needed to build those ancient chateau. I heard there are builders who are working on ruins to study the building techniques of the stone masons of the time.

  • Boys I must say that your little excursion to the 'two chateaus' was pure eye candy to someone that has loved castles since childhood. Terry the angles and pans on your camera shots evoked so much emotion. The music was of course perfect. You have quite a knack for picking perfect music. I could go on and on. Thank you, thank you, thanks so much. Ash I loved the chateau history narration, well done. You love history and it shows. Taking apart the wall at the end? Ash I love your dry humor, 'just another project'... dun, dun, dun. LOL! It will look gorgeous. It may take a bit of doing, but Terry does have a great eye. So much work ahead, and here I am wondering what Ash will plant in the spring. I he has anytime to spare that is. Thanks for sharing the journey with us. Can't wait for more.

    • @@ashleywaters7198 you’re not a saddo at all. My Neil has me watching things like this. Good to be passionate. I’ll look forward to seeing the rest. Bloody work. One day, we hope to be in France too.👍❤️

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you for the tours of the château in your area. I’ve heard this mentioned and maybe I just didn’t catch it before, but are you also putting in a camping area on your property?
